Thanks Joel, I find turning therapeutic. After leaving the military in 2012 I could of got a big paying job here with a local company but deep in my heart I knew that I wanted to be a professional turner. Moneys not everything! I’m in my own world doing my own thing with nobody telling me what to do! The wife still controls me tho, lol. Stay safe!

I wasn't sure how this was going to look given the state of the piece before it was filled. Pretty darned spectacular change and a wonderful contrast between the branches, soapstone, and the bark. So pretty, and I love the way the piece has an asymmetrical, organic balance. Very well done!

I'm fairly new to your channel and have enjoyed all the videos I watched immensely! This one fascinated me! Really cool ideas. I've worked with soap stone in the past but never as an inlay. Great job. One word of caution about steel wool. When I was a youngster, I used it to clean white wall tires (yes I'm that old to remember them!) and got a splinter in my thumb. It got infected and I landed up losing the tip of my thumb--almost lost it to the first knuckle. Moral of the story is if you use steel wool WEAR GLOVES! Looking forward to binge watching your videos!

Wow, I’ve never heard of that before, it stands to reason that if metal got imbedded in your skin you could get an infection from it, I know this because of my former life as a mechanic. Thanks for the advice and stopping by to watch my channel, Jim.

Oh my! Beautiful! What a transformation! It went from junk to a work of art! And I agree with you. You make it into an enhancement instead of a repair job! I love that color of sandstone. Does it have a name?

One of these days I just might give it a go, I see lots of other turners using it in there videos. If it’s got some kind of wax in it, that might be a problem with putting another coat of finish on tho? Jim
