  • @pajonate
    @pajonate4 жыл бұрын

    Quick question, Kyle. On some of your videos with bigger vases, like the 100th vase one, you are using a low rpm (260) when hollowing inside and a gouge. The flute is at 12 o'clock. What grind do you have, Elsworth, 40/40 or... and more importantly which part of the edge do you cut with it? It is hard to figure out from the video. Needless to say, I have tried it and my catches are huge, so I am doing something very wrong. :-0 I have noticed that you had couple of catches, luckily not that bad. Take care.

    The 'black lines' in between the wood layers (pieces) is black veneer I believe, this site will help you get started on the veneer www.amazon.com/s?k=black+veneer+wood&gclid=Cj0KCQiAoIPvBRDgARIsAHsCw0_pNmoRa4jeSs2U2WycyIzwOtWM3v_U7ZEHBvNYSYKiHzgymWp2_I8aAtgIEALw_wcB&hvadid=382609429417&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9015646&hvnetw=g&hvpos=1t1&hvqmt=b&hvrand=3986695760967023196&hvtargid=kwd-312758096141&hydadcr=19335_9583145&tag=googhydr-20&ref=pd_sl_7afoevavs7_b Also you can use really any kind of Varnish, Polyurethane or Lacquer . It really just depends on what you like. You can use a wipe on polyurethane. While polyurethane is water- or oil-based plastic resin, Varnish is older and made from resins, oils, and solvents. Because of the higher ratio of solids, varnish is less susceptible to ultraviolet light damage. ... This finish gives a more tinted color when applied and requires more coats than polyurethane You can also use a Lacquer . Lacquer = a liquid made of shellac dissolved in alcohol, or of synthetic substances, that dries to form a hard protective coating for wood, metal, etc. I, myself like to use Boiled Linseed Oil. BLO, is a great protectant for wood both indoors and outdoors. It beautifies any wood and, once cured, protects the wood from sun and water damage. It can really reinvigorate old dried out wood and bring it back to a healthy status and it also looks great on newly made project as well. Best bet is to get 4 pieces of the Same wood, and cut it into about 10 inches long (25 cm) by 5 inches wide (12 cm) and an 1/2 inch thick (1.27 cm) make sure the wood is very, very smooth and looks good. On 1 piece, use Varnish. On the next piece, use Polyurethane. On the next on use the boiled linseed oil (my favorite). On the last piece use Lacquer. See what they look like when you first apply each finish, then see what they look like when they are dry. Try to look at them in the sun or a well lit room like in the video. And use the one that you like the best, and that's it. Your on your way,,,, I hope this helps. Cheers from the USA. Good luck and GOD BLESS you.
