Wow, there is so much that goes into every bowl, I can see why you do prep on multiple blanks all at one time, plus, the next time I go into the hardware store, and I see the woodworking tools, I may recognize one of them and actually know what it is used for! I'm not a turner, but I find it fascinating how much work actually goes into it... I DO have a few bowls & boards that were gifted to me & I appreciate them even more now (I truly appreciated them to begin with). Some of those bowls are going to be gorgeous when finished! This is a great video of "how the sausage is made." A Great look. I was always wondering what Anchor Seal was, and what it was used for. Another great video! I love the purple colour of the walnut before it fully dries, it is beautiful once it goes black but gosh the purple is breathtaking! Reminds me of the purple heart wood offcuts in the vase you did recently, I continue to dream about a purple heart wood piece done with different purple resins... I am thrilled about your news Jim, I am very excited for you getting a bigger better workshop! Hope everything works out with the move back to N.B. I spent 8 years stationed in Greenwood N.S. and my wife was from there. We always thought we would go back after I retired. When the time came I let her make the decision kids and grandkids were here so she wanted to stay. I'm glad she decided that way now, she died 3 years ago and my kids and brothers all all within an hour or two drive.Good luck with the move and new shop.

Designer Epoxy Jim, really nice video - very informative. I like that you included some real-time turning since, while I understand the reason for speeding them up, seeing the video in fast-mode it is hard to grasp just how long it really takes to rough out a bowl. Since I live in Florida, it really doesn't help to cut tree in the winter since it never gets cold enough to change the sap flow all that much. The same thing about drying them - our summers are not only hot, but they are also long. Of course, one advantage is that what may take a year or two for you to dry wood only takes about 6 months for us. Hope all goes well with the new shop and house and that you have a smooth move. I would consider the heat-pump mini-split for heat and cool over propane. Many of the newer ones can produce sufficient heat even in very cold weather.

Yes, I will probably go with a heat pump. I’m told by the builder that a mini split can’t take the dusty conditions. A fast way for you to remove the moisture from the tree is to leave the branches and leaves on and allow the leaves to pull the moisture from the tree, then process it from there. @@SpragueWoodturning I have a mini-split in my shop. I know it is extra work but, if you design and build a "box" to cover all the mini-split except for the vent that blows the air into the shop, you can make it so you can use conventional filters - the mini-splits are usually much more efficient than central type units and more than window or through-the-wall units ... and, they are very quiet!

As always, great video Jim! I find the roughing out process very interesting! WOW! A big move and an even bigger shop! How exciting! Consider adding a shower to that bathroom. Great for an emergency wash down, if needed.

I enjoy the roughing videos. Seeing how you take plain chunks of wood and find all the potential beauty in them amazing. The "wood juice" made me laugh, but it is plenty true, if you have ever watched the Hydraulic Press Channel when they have crushed green wood the amount of water that comes out is amazing.

I think you are right about it being spruce and not pine. The bark looks like spruce to me, but I'm used to Swedish trees and not Canadian dito. Anyway awesome video and good luck with the move, don't worry about missing a video or two. We can wait.
