I made one of these from walnut for a lady at church who turned 85 years old. She still reminds me weekly how much she loves it. Not that it was that great, it’s just little handmade things like these make people so happy. That’s why I turn to this day.

@@William_Kenny I have a problem with getting the shape I want for the piece to actually get to the piece. I’ll get there but I’m dyslexic and I have adhd so my head is always doing something weird on me lol. Like I know the shape in my head but it won’t transfer to my hands and chisels. I’ve done some pretty good ones but this is something I try to practice often with scrap prices. They tend to sell really good at the shows. Thanks William!!

Madonna I have a similar problem I find sitting down and drawing the shape and refine on paper first when you are happy with the result cut out template with a scissors and work from that, hope that helps a little happy and safe turning 😀

Love this!! How do you avoid splitting from the pith of the branch? All of my attempts at turning branches have resulted in splits a few weeks later

I usually cut the branches about a metre long and stack upright in my wood store, i leave then to dry for a year or so some will split and end up in the fire wood pile but most are good to turn. 👍😊
