Woodturning a Cherry Burl and Epoxy Bowl
Ойын-сауық
Woodturning a Cherry Burl and Epoxy Bowl. In this video I turn a very large Cherry burl and epoxy bowl. I have been holding on to this burl until I got my coring tool. Now that I have it, I was able to maximize the usage of this burl.

Thanks Donovan! The sand mold comes thanks to Dan Preece. When I saw it I was blown away by how great and simple an idea it was!

Thank you Tim!
Hey Mike, that's a stunning bowl you made, I like it. You did teach me something new, how to make a mold with sand. And I will definitely be looking for screws like you described, much better than the ones I'm using now. Cheers, Hans Stay safe and keep turning

Thanks Hans! The sand idea comes from a Dan Preece. You really need to make sure you use the corrugated plastic under the bag. it will keep the bag from pushing into the gap.
That is a beautiful bowl Sir. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you Craig!
Beautiful burl. You did a great job with it. I would think it would bring a great price too. The cores should be very nice bowls as well.

Thanks Doug! The price of the epoxy really raises what I need to ask for this bowl.

I have shows on back to back weekends starting this weekend. I am hoping this moves.
In every way that is impressive Mike! I love the creative idea of using sand to help with the epoxy.

Thanks Ray! I can't take credit for the sand. It was Dan Preece! It is a great idea! Works amazingly well! I have another bowl in the sand right now! Thanks again Ray!
That wood is awesome. Nice job with it. The sand box was a new one. Never seen that before. It looked like it worked well. Was there any issues from not being able to use a pressure pot? If there were you hid them very well. Finished product looked amazing. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Greg! I did not have any problems not using a pressure pot. I did use deep pour epoxy which has a much long work time. I also let it sit for a while to let as many bubbles come up as possible. But the sand really did force the epoxy deep into the burl. I couldn't have been happier.
Beautiful bowl and great ideas for techniques. Q: How long did the initial turning to round marathon take?

Thank you! It took roughly 2 hours. I had to sharpen many times.
