To be honest, I've always interpreted it differently: the priest is singing about himself a 'lifetime' ago. The 'drowning in a cold ocean' might be a metaphor - he ended his life, as he knew it, right then, and started a new life as a priest. The hands at the end, to me, suggest it may also be a metaphor - when he 'came back' into a new life, he was still never whole, never quite alive, as such. Althought alternatively, that he may have actually drowned, but came back as a sort of 'ghost' of a holy man, but I prefer my first interpretation. This is all imo, of course.

my son passed five days ago. I cried to my grandma that I should be planning his birthday not his funeral arrangements. I look down at my phone ready to make more calls and google search was up and read "I love you" and this was the song that was showing. We enjoyed listening to Woodkid durning relax time. I miss him dearly. I just thought I'd share my weird experience just now.

Wish that there was more heart gripping music like this, goes down to the soul- And you can feel it too especially if you felt this way, deep down. I found Woodkid about 4 years ago, his music (this one) really brings me back to those days where i felt at peace the most and remember the ones I lost. Maybe its just fate i keep finding music that carries me through the months and i'm very grateful for it. I personally like the Quintet version better, the violin que is just perfect for me.

Back in 2013 I was 28 listening to this alone in my flat in London. I remember being fascinated by this music and also the scenery in this video. I didn't know where it was shot but I knew it was unique and beautiful. Later ,in 2013 I met a girl from Iceland who is becoming my wife today. Today we live in iceland and I have seen all these beautiful places in this video. This song is something we listened to when we met and it's still a song the reminds us of our first moments in our relationship.

My dad just passed, and this song hits deep into my soul 🥺😭😭

it's probably due to the full minute and a fucking half of intro.

The power in those songs is immense! There ain‘t no other artist who has this ability to make songs connect to something soo deep in me.

My friend who introduced me to this song said that the singer could be talking to God through the lyrics. I pray as God used this song to lead me to Himself and therefore to healing, that it could lead her to Him too, one day. Thank you, Z. If you ever see this, you know who you are.❤

this song makes me cry. I was with this amazing person for a short time of 5 months but in those 5 months never have I felt so much for some body and iv been with alot of ppl and for much longer times too BUT She was something else! and now she fades away from me. its strange how music effects us like that, but beautiful too.

thank you for that impactful comment. 5 months ago I experienced a huge heartbreak. After we started dating (I really do care about him at that moment), he stopped our relationship, apparently bc he wasn't ready for love. He broke up with me by sending me a text. He didn't want to see me to talk about it. Huge coward. 2 months after our breakup, he texted me because he "misses me a lot", not caring if I wasn't suffering. Then I realized he was only thinking about his own happiness and not mine. He always had excuses to not see me to talk about that. ("I'm tired" "I have to work on things" "I'm a bit sick" "I don't want to" "I'm not in the mood"). At the beggining, I was protecting him. Not anymore. But the pain is still here. This song was stuck in my head the entire day then. Even if it's not really a breakup song, but I think we can all read it in our way. Sorry if that comment is a bit long and personal. But Karen's comment had an impact on me. (also, I'm French, I can make mistakes lol)

I heard this song on that one J’adore Dior perfume commercial from 2017 and the song has stuck with me ever since. This is such a beautiful and great song.

Every time I hear this song reminds me of my loving brother who passed away since January 2013. God I missed him so much and I cried each time I hear this one. I love Woodkid as he is a deeply sentimental epic performer with his vision ,lyrics and music .Just saw him before 4 days in Herodium Attica under the hill of Acropolis and he was way far beyond my expectations. This is a great song, i love you WOODkid

My memory is foggy but I use to be able to "translate" the russian bit in the beginning "There once was a boy that drowned in the cold ocean waters after losing the one he loved, this is the story of a boy that died twice"
