    I carve ivory with an older dremel with flex shaft. Given the difficulty in obtaining legal ivory now, I'm going to move into carving wood as well, fine work, high detail. Thanks for the info on the Foredom, it was the one I was leaning towards. My son bought me a new dremel about 2 years ago, it burned completely out in the first few months....I got my old dremel back out and it just keeps on working as it has for about 20+ years now...

    This came up in my feed. IIRC, I critically commented on another video of yours a time back. This video was very good. I run a Foredom TX as a daily driver and also have a Foredom SR on the same stand. Foredom's metal pedal on the TX and a Lucas pedal on the SR. Both pedals are outstanding, albeit quite different, and offer a noticeable upgrade over Foredom's plastic pedal. Similarly, Foredom sells two stands: The clamp style, as in the video, and another that bolts to the bench. I have both. If you're in a position where you can pop holes in your bench, the screw down model is the better option. Good luck.

    I started with a Dremel 3000 and have upgraded to the 4300. I'm a hobby carving amateur enthusiast and it works great for me. The main reason I keep dreaming of the Foredom is the ability to run 1/4 burrs. It would really speed up up the removal process. Can't really justify the cost just yet. Maybe when I retire. Thanks for the Video Matt👍

I make wooden flutes and sculpted "blocks" (like a little totem on the flute as a removable part). I have no motor etc... my favorite tool so far is a Black & Decker battery rotary tool I removed the ass end off and wired directly. But it's weak.

    I purchased a Dremel 3000 and on high speeds it was OK no operating issues, but when I ran it on its slowest setting it would speed up on its own accord to unacceptable levels. I returned it for a refund, but they would only refund the actual Dremel 3000 unit, not all the other parts that I purchased at the same time(Flex shaft, accessory kit , case etc), and that is a warning to people purchasing through Amazon, get the base unit and then when happy purchase the other parts over time and build your collection as you go. I have now purchased a Foredom SR and why I am watching this video. Great video and useful info.....

    Hey there, Great question. If you watched the video you will see where Foredom recommends the SR to most customers. You need the speed that the SR has for Woodcarving. The TX model is made for slower applications. You will find that a lot of mechanics use the foredom.

    So you don't use top speed when intense hogging? I guess I assumed it would work best at higher speed for that. Would it put too much stress on the machine?

  • @CorneliusCreations

    @CorneliusCreations

    5 ай бұрын

    I will go slower if I am developing burn marks. For some of my hickory handles, I won’t run the Foredom full blast because the coarse kutzall burrs perform better running slower on this type of wood. You have to get a feel for what you are doing and allow the tool to talk to you if that makes sense. Fast doesn’t always equal clean smooth cuts when hogging.
