Wood Turning Burl: Removing the Bark From a Burl Wood Tree log chunk

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this educational Wood Turning Video I am exploring cleaning the bark off a Burl Wood. I am removing the Bark from a tree log chunk of burl wood. Burl is a part of the tree that is all swirly and the grain is super crazy in it's pattern. It generally has spikes on the outside of the wood and the bark is attached to the spikes. Leave the wood for a few months to let the moisture come out of the wood, this will help with the de-barking process.

Looks good but now I need a power washer…..I’ve had great success with sand blasting also

Thanks for sharing sir.. would it increase the moisture content of the wood because of soaking process? I love burl wood and often do epoxy projects and the wood moisture is very much concern to me.

I would say yes, but I am not really sure. I have heard that getting the surface of wood wet like in the rain won't really effect the moisture content. I would say try power washing without soaking and see if it works. If not just wait longer and the bark will loosen up over time.
