Wood Turning | Birdseye Maple Bowl - Huge Birdseye

In this video I make a Birdseye Maple bowl that has a lot of really large birdseye. This is made from a blank I have had for over 20 years. There was some shake that needed to be repaired with CA glue and I spend some time going through how I use abrasive paste, sanding sealer and wax finish.
Please leave a comment and thumbs up as that really helps the channel grow!
I hope you enjoy this, thank you for watching.

    I missed this on the day but was so pleased to see it hadn't eluded me - LOL. I love the various woods that feature such lovely details in the grain. When you mentioned you were making a bowl for keys I laughed so hard! A bowl for keys played a featured role in a couple of episodes of the Big Bang Theory! How is the renovation on your son's century farmhouse coming along? Only around a month and I will be moving quite close to your community. Looking forward to inviting your niece over for coffee, and of course you and yours will be welcome to drop by for coffee some time as well. Your little part of our province seems to be blessed with an impressive number of artisans and craftspeorsons. Maybe there is something in the air or water? LOL. I dream of learning how to make stained glass, so maybe I'll be infected with the gift of creativity!

    I love watching your videos!... I love the music, it's very calming and relaxing, I love your instructions; straight and to the point and I appreciate how you demonstrate how to turn with a basic set up. The swing on my lathe is approx 9 inches, but with an old huge cast banjo things get pretty tight when trying to turn larger pieces and use the tail stock. I am thinking I may just do a bunch of stuff start to finish on the outboard side. Have you ever done that, or would you ever make a video showing how you would go about doing it? Would love to learn and see your technique.

  • @TheKlondikeCraftsman

    @TheKlondikeCraftsman

    3 жыл бұрын

    I wouldn’t say you couldn’t but there are a lot of variations in metal lathes so I really couldn’t say for certain. You need some pretty decent RPM for a wood lathe or you will be limited somewhat. Mounting a tool rest is a challenge as well. I do hope it works out but if you are interested in wood and not metal than maybe you can find someone who would trade. Many of the blanks I turn were roughed in on a metal lathe using the metal working tool holder and crank. Good luck with it! Thanks for watching!
