Good information. I started to figure out the quarter scale last year. But I'm sure I forgot everything over the winter. So this came at a good time for me. Appreciate you sharing.

Great explanation of using the Q-Scale. BTW, I have the same mill. Like you I came from a manual TK. Enjoy your videos and love your sense of humor! Blessings.

I learned a lot from the first quarter scale video you did....Same with this one. I'm waiting on a manual mill to arrive soon so hopefully I can put this info to good use!

@@TheOldManAndTheSaw I didn't have the patience to wait for an orange one so I went with a green one. Delivery should be somewhere less than ten weeks out at this point. Fingers crossed!!

Thanks Luke. I got a comment about adding the warning about a bad ground contact potentially damaging bearings. I considered this so important I re-did the video.

Love that sliding scale. How do you lock the 1/4 scale? Would like to convert my wouldland scale to be similar to your. The idea of using overlap magmetic is anoying. Yours is mutch nice.

Both scales are mounted on a bracket. The sliding scale has a simple clamp to hold it in place. I'm sure it can be bought from Wood-Mizer but you would have to call them. Their website is TERRIBLE at finding things. Good Luck. Dave

If you screw up and the last board is too thick, why can't you run it through a planer? I would think even the best measurement will be slightly off upon changing blade/kerf thickness.

The whole concept of using the quarter scale is to eliminate unnecessary effort. Rough sawn lumber is NOT perfect but, hopefully, "close enough". Good to hear from you again. Dave

Where can I get that quarter scale? Can't find it with Google, Amazon, or Wood-Mizer.

Wood-Mizer makes the BEST portable sawmills but their website is one of the worst. It's almost impossible to find things (like a quarter scale) that you KNOW they sell. You need to call their local store. Check the scale for their LT15, or LT28 thru LT50 series. Here is the info for the Oregon store; 24435 N.E. Sandy Blvd. Wood Village, OR 97060. Hours: Mon-Fri 8am-5pm. Phone: 503.661.1939. Good luck Dave

Good video on the quarter scale. When I had my Norwood Manuel mill. I offered a magnetic quarter scale from cooks sawmill. They had the large number quarter scale.

I called Wood-Mizer and ordered the scale by part number from the online LT-40 manual before I saw Dave's reply. It's a stick-on scale that I stuck onto my Woodland Mills magnetic scale and also stuck on a metal inch scale covering the Woodland Mills inch scale (which is off by about 1/128-inch per inch) so my setup looks like Dave's, except I forgot about that 1/8-inch flaw in the last board. (I think that my kerf is close to 7/64ths, but that's not important now.) No way to unstick either scale, so I replaced the red blade with clear plastic and two fine parallel lines a hair less than 1/8th apart. Now I can read both scales accurately and precisely when I remember to put my eyes on a level with the scale. Video on this coming soon. Does anyone know WHY the Wood-Mizer scale doesn't take the kerf into account for the last board?
