Wood Fired Oven Cracked?! | Installing the Forno Bravo Premio Wood Fired Pizza Oven

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Installing the Forno Bravo Premio 100 wood fired oven. I used the high temp mortar that came with the kit and it cracked badly. I had to scrape all the cracked mortar off the oven and install new high temp mortar from a different brand.

Excellent video ,I have completed a few of these now and what I have done to prevent the mortar going into the gap is to put som 3/16 fire rope in there which will stop the mortar and at the same time allow the dome to expand and contract as it will never go hard as its fibre rope

That is a brilliant solution to that problem. Wish I would have thought of that!

Good video thanks for the tips. Getting ready to install mine next week. I hope everything goes well for me. I decided to go with the primo 110. Thank you. I live in the west coast not to hot over here hope it don’t crack on me. I might just get something better to save me the extra work.

When I built my oven, I was instructed to soak every brick in water for ten minutes before mortaring it in place. This is because they are very porous and would soak up all the water from the mortar, leading to cracking. I would think your concrete oven had the same effect. I am by no means an expert on this, though.

I think you are right and that did have something to do with it. Although I am still not sure about the supplied mortar for outdoor use. I did contact Forno Bravo about the cracking and they did state not wetting the oven before applying the mortar could be the problem. Unfortunately, it doesn’t state anything about wetting the oven before applying the mortar in their instructions or in the online installation video. The mortar I replaced it with was a dry mix and seemed like a better product for the application.

Drying to quickly should of sprayed some water on the dry shell first

Yep, I believe that was the cause as well. I just wish the instructions from the vendor had called out that important detail.

Really nice video. I think a lot of ovens crack between the dome and tunnels sections. I’m thinking about chipping off the render coat, adding more rock wool and then rendering again on to chicken wire but this time with it extended over the tunnel section to reduce cracking. Good job.

How many inches of insulation you have now? I have 4 on the sides and 5 on the top and my oven will stay warm for 2-3 days.

@@blood_sweat_and_beers My dome is 2" thick made with 2:pearlite, 1:sand and 1:cement, then a 2nd 2" thick layer with just 3:1 pearlite:cement, then 2" rockwool. Not enough I think. I get 50°C still midday on the following day if the door is pushed back.

i want to buy one of these ovens. around how much does each piece weigh? is it easy to install with one or 2 persons?

My oven weights about 1300lbs. Each section was about 200-250 lbs. I was really worried about the install, but myself and brother in-law were able easily manage it. The tractor lifting each piece to the floor height made all the difference. If you go with the Casa instead of Premio, each piece is about 33% lighter.

Seems to be a little on the low quality control of a kit. Broken pieces and mortar that isn’t any good

I agree. Nothing in my kit will have an impact on performance, but for as much as the kit costs, it would be nice to not have chips missing and a dry mix bag of refractory mortar included instead of the premixed.

Was the oven cracked or just the sari set?

Just the premixed high temp mortar they supplied cracked. That stuff is junk. Luckily, there were no permanent issues with the oven itself.
