Women's Involvement In Politics | Muriel Collins | TEDxUniversityofMississippi

Although female involvement in politics has exponentially risen in the modern era, there is still a gender gap in political ambition. In order to create safe social and political environments for everyone, women must have an equal voice in state and local government. Muriel Collins, a Union, Mississippi native, is a first year law student at the University of Mississippi School of Law. She graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Mississippi College. While attending Mississippi College, Muriel was inducted into Alpha Chi National College Honor Society and Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society. She was chosen to present to the Mississippi Communications Association as an Undergraduate Panel Speaker in 2017. During her senior year, she received the 2018-2019 Outstanding Student in Pre-Law Award. Muriel interned for Congressman Steven Palazzo and worked on the campaign staff for Mississippi Attorney General candidate Mark Baker. After completing law school, Muriel would like to lobby in Washington, D.C. She hopes to encourage and propel more women to get involved in American politics. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Just because women are smart and capable doesn’t mean they belong in politics. Their strengths are better used elsewhere.
