If this race has pacers and is all about the runners getting certain times to possibly qualify for the trials and/or the Olympics how come the announcers are never talking about the splits? The splits and finishing times are the story of this event.

Yes. Keeping the audience aware of the progress of a race by informing them of the splits is one thing that clearly distinguishes professional commentators from amateurs.

One more thing: So we learn very late in the race that they are not going to hit the time they need to hit. So that means the pacer wasn’t hitting her times. It would have been better if she stayed in the race for half as many laps but hit her times rather than pace them too slowly only to make their race for naught.

Hi! The pacer nailed their splits. They were asked to do 15:22 pace. Auto standard is 14:50, but only ~50% of athletes will qualify via auto standard. The rest qualify via world rankings (ranking is based off your three best performances). The top four athletes in this race all improved their rankings from this race.

I agree. Let's suppose that all of the coaches decided to do the same.

When i watched the NCAA Women's 5000m champion fail to make a qualifying time of 14m52s by only 2 seconds, she seemed to be much faster and blew everyone away. Do different countries have different standards?

    I don't like pacers in a race.
