To start I want to quote an old feminist saying ... "Women are born, ladies are made" as a pro feminist male, I fully support the outlook of this documentary ... As a consequence of reading Gail Newsham's book in the mid 1990s it made me research further into the "hidden/forgotten history" of female football. This documentary shows the negative legacy of that Sexist ban by The F.A. from 1921 to 1971, this why we are here regarding female football ... Just think for a moment if the ban never happened ... each established Male football club could have adopted a female team under there own club, thus having a Male & Female team with the same support ... The club would have prospered and each gender team could flourish . We in England would have been World Leaders in Women's Football in a domestic and International context ... Because of the Ban, the Shame still falls on The F.A.

David Cummings they got it right in America and look at them go now. The F.A. have always been a bunch of sexist f*cks and I think they’re actually afraid of what women’s football could actually achieve if allowed to flourish. At least we get a short slot on the beeb on a Sunday night now. Men’s football is becoming more absurd by the day ( and the racists are back in force). A good women’s game has everything we’ve lost and I’m encouraging more people to go

So the rules changed, and the team didn't meet the standards the leagues rules outlined and was relegated. This isn't something new. This happens in all leagues in all countries, relatively frequently. How is this different? They're women, right. Then we really have to care a lot. The rules about financial stability are there in part to protect the players. It's not more than a couple years ago here in Denmark that a womens handball team was asked to play without salary, because they club couldn't afford them. The minimum requirements when it comes to stadiums and budgets are there for a reason. If your womens team is so damn important, raise money. I'm sure companies would love to sponsor you. As a player, if the club can't afford you professional football, I'm sure other clubs can. And if you're good, they will. "We got demoted for non-footballing reasons." You could take that purist stance, but what we're talking about here isn't "football", it's "professional football". You can play. No one is preventing you. You just can't get paid... So finance and pro football are intertwined. You fail at the financial part, you fail at the footballing part. You can't seperate the two.

That is because people don't want to watch womens football ofcourse. You're really saying that companies refuse to do sponsorship contracts with them because they're women? It's because they're bad at football and therefore no one watches it. Top level womens football is about the same as 5th or 6th tier mens football. The women are neither being overpaid or underpaid. They're getting exactly what they deserve.

Just to point out that there was NO mens football for the bulk of the First World War. The league continued for one season after the war began and then came to an end. Women's football was built around munitions factories and other factories producing war materials. When the war came to an end, factories either closed down or went back to civilian production. On top of that, the men returning back from the war went back to the factories and took over the jobs they had before the war. The women went back to their pre war lives and left the factories. Don't complain about this, because the men were promised their jobs back when the war ended. Is this video saying the men who served King and Country putting their lives at stake should be told to get stuffed? As for the football, that too wanted to get the league and cup competitions up and running again. And they couldn't do that much with women using their stadiums and training facilities. On top of that, what happens years later? Women's football at this time was built around wartime conditions. With the war over, the structure for the women's game was over. There was no peace time structure to replace it.

Sport shouldn't have anything to do with gender, it should be how many fans and the highest quality to be supported and televised, and honestly womens football and majority of women's sports which compare to mens are not even a fraction of the quality mens show, I don't understand why there is a documentary about this when an u14s mens Sunderland team could breeze past this womens side

In response to you narrow minded comment you egotistical, misogynistic human (@ me if you don't understand these words). Sports doesn't really have anything to do with gender, it only becomes and issue when people like YOU pipe up and make comments about things you don't understand. Women sports are compared to males, unfortunately, and do not get the coverage they deserve, I'm sure every single one of these women could get a ball passed you with their eyes closed. There is a documentary to educate those, who are willing to open their minds (i know its scary af for men like you) to understand sports from other perspectives. Hope this youtube video, which you decided to watch, didn't keep you up too much at night.

Women’s football, men’s football,...it’s just football- the simplest game, the world game. If you don’t watch women’s football because of a lower standard of play (speed, strength, and skill), then (1) you have not paid attention to this history showing the women’s game is behind in infrastructural and financial development in support of players, and (2) you should watch the following video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/q3-AtNKFn9befrw.html - OR (3) you’re no true FOOTBALL fan.

@@sumomaster5585: Dude, if the women's game was "never going to" be comparable to the men's, then why bother putting your finger on the scales SO THAT women's football couldn't move forward? It should live and die on MERITS. We are men and women, human beings all, partaking of the mystery of LIFE, freely living the way we choose to live (like, staying single or getting married, or playing football), and deserving of conceding to one another decency and dignity. Not allowing women's football to live and die on merits, with the popularity that it did and does enjoy and the number of female footballers who back then trained and played week in and week out, and that do so today, says something about the decision-making, doesn't it? It was and is chauvinist. Full stop. And chauvinism is morally repugnant.

The only thing that is wrong is them going on about not being able to be paid to play, there are plenty of men that have the exact same struggle, the elitist in both men and women's gat paid fairly for the revenue streams that come in, and it filters down to each league. You know what industry you are getting into you cant then complain about it.

Men’s football is very old and thus there are millions of men who play it around the world this means that for clubs there are men training endlessly trying to become famous etc and there fore there are some amazing male footballers however there are very few women compared to men who play meaning even if a woman isn’t good she can get accepted because they have no reason to train harder if women’s football picks up and women start training harder and better they can be just as good and the sport will rise in popularity you just gotta wait for competition and a bit of grip

The audience is used to the men’s version which will naturally always be lot better, and with limited fans and over saturated market with all the cups to play for, women’s football will likely never get off the ground which is cold hard economics.
