If you talk about the most important thing in English football, the correct answer should be Gareth Southgate one. However, they wasted the big chance for winning Euro 2020 and 2022 World Cup after one reason: penalty heartbreak.

@@ezraezra2928 I disagree. Southgate got us to the final but we lost therefore he's a loser. Getting to a semi final or a final means nothing unless you win unless of course you are from Andorra or San Marino. What has Southgate ever won in his career?? I rest My case.

@@juanmanu9652 As a player, Southgate only won 2 EFL Cups. He did this when he played for Aston Villa and Middlesbrough. But EFL Cups aren't the biggest football competition if we compared it to major events like Euro and World Cup. The rest is just pain and agony. When he managed Middlesbrough immediately after the retirement, Southgate only led his club to two consecutive mid-table finishes before eventually relegated in 2009. If we compared it to other English managers (both clubs and nationals), Southgate had the same play as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who managed Manchester United in 2019-2021.

@@ezraezra2928 I disagree as well . The Americans tend to think that the Olympic football counts , so we can ignore that. In National football , the World Cup is the big one, Euros is second , and .....is there a third? As almost anyone will say, winning counts. Sir Alf Ramsay has the best record as a manager of the mens team , because of the 66 WC. Closely followed by Southgate and then Sven Yoric Erickson. In the womens game , Sarina Wiegman is top , as soon as we lifted the Euro trophy , followed by Mark Sampson? and i cant remember who in third. Sarina Wiegman is the best manager of the Womens team , and second behind Sir Alf. If she wins the WC in July , she'll have two trophies and that will put her as the most sucessful England manager of either team. Her win % is 90 something. All the other managers are in the low 60's. If Southgate wants to go above Ramsey , or Wiegman , i say with respect , win something.

I am a male from the States. Lifelong football fan. This group ofvwomen and this accomplishment of lifting this trophy is my greatest memory as a fan up to this point. This group is easy to root for. I will be rooting for them to win the world cup in 2023....

So amazing to see Beth get the SPOTY award last night. She absolutely deserved it. But I think Leah Williamson deserves a huge amount of credit for leading this England team to one victory after another after another. She has the calm control and the fire and passion to win, and you can tell the whole team respects her as captain. I have so much respect for her and what she's achieved!

I've watched football since 1972 - I have never felt more joy than when watching the Lionesses during EUROS 2022 - passionate about the game, playing as a TEAM and with a magical game changer i.e. Sarina Wiegman.

Even though I am American, I thoroughly enjoyed watching England dominate the entire Euros. I’ve been following the team closely since the 2015 World Cup and they’ve continually had a great squad who have become amazing competitors for other teams, especially the USWNT. I really hope they can hold onto this momentum and have it through the World Cup because I think they’ll give the USWNT a run for their money and I am totally ok with it. I’m glad this documentary came out so we could hear from the players themselves. This was well done and I hope they do this for the World Cup this coming summer. Congrats Lionesses on all your success and here’s to more in the future!

I was at the semi right behind the goal of Russo’s backheel and it was one of my favourite moments in football. The relief at sealing the win, the happiness at reaching the final and the realisation I’d just witnessed one of the most iconic England goals ever was incredible

As an expat Englishman living in Germany and having had to live with the decades of disappointments pertaining to England's men's team never just making the top score since 1966, my daughter and I were so proud and happy that the Lionesses had it in them to win the 2022 Euros in England !!! The team was so confident, so focussed, at the time they could have won any match against all comers, even the USA. In October we actually flew over to London to watch the match at Wembley against the USA on the 7th October - a 2:1 victory and an unforgettable experience seeing the girls play live watched by 90,000 spectators ! We sincerely hope that the team wins the World Cup, despite the loss of Ellen White, Jill Scott, Beth Mead and Leah Williamson - but they still have a group of fantastic football players and with mounting confidence they can certainly win the trophy for England again. We wish them the best of luck and we love 'em all ❤❤❤🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

I have followed the women's game since 2005 and have suffered verbal abuse and mockery in newspapers for advocating the women's game. I feel a little pride that things will change now.

May be an American, may live in America, but England always have my heart. Love these girls so much, they are my hero’s and true inspiration. I’m going to try to stop crying now❤

As a Brit and ardent Lioness supporter, I love watching the USA play, for a country that hasn't been big on football/soccer, to be World Cup winners is a terrific achievement.

To say I was at Wembley for that final is actually such a proud moment for me. I can't imagine how amazing it was for the players. 🤩🤩🤩

Thank you to all the Lionesses for a wonderful summer. True role models that made me fall back in love with football (sorry fellas but women’s football not men’s) and the England team again. All of them playing for the badge (certainly not for the money they so deserve) with no egos. Every player playing for each other from the first whistle to the last……that is why they won. Beside the ridiculous amount of talent and depth in the squad. And finally, the perfect final ingredient Dame Sarina Wiegman ‘bedankt voor het mee naar huis nemen’.

Well done, mum!👏 Just as important to inspiring a generation of young girls & women to actively get into playing & watching the sport is the normalisation for a generation of young boys to grow up loving the sport as one played & watched by all. A lot of older men had their eyes opened and their horizons broadened too. This tournament and team changed a lot of opinions and destroyed a lot of negative myths & naysayers' falsehoods.

Beyond happy I got to witness my country win a tournament like this. 😮 unreal to see history like this

Sport is about moments, of joy and sorrow. They're extreme emotions that make us love winning and hate losing. Watching this back again is somehow even more dramatic than when it actually happened, maybe because we're hearing how the players & coach were feeling and trying to deal with the pressure. But what a team, and what a brilliant Summer they all gave us. The belief is there now that they can go and lift the big one, The World Cup!

What a summer. What a team. What a win. This squad is overloaded with amazing players. Leah- captain leah. You should be so proud. You captained this already outstanding team and made it into history makeing . GK- with out you it wouldn’t have been possible. To make a award winning team like this doesn’t just take a great forward. Great midfield and great defence. It takes goal keepers. Goal keepers who have the skill and talent to keep a clean sheet. Goal keeper who can make a win. Mid- a strong midfield doesn’t come out of luck. It come off practice and hard work and training. The game doesn’t work with out you. Defence- wow you guys really like to make it impossible for a goal keeper to do her job. You are so strong no matter who plays. No matter where the game is going you stay so strong. Forward- goal after goal after goal. I know not all were scored by forwards but there were sooooo many. You guys have so much talent. To be able to keep possession of the ball when it’s passed to you and then score. Wow. Sarina- your the one. Unbelievable. Unbeaten how many matches is it now. I think we’ve all lost count. Girls I can’t explain how unbelievably proud I am. 31/7/22- England lionesses European champion. Keep going World Cup I don’t think your ready for us ❤❤❤

Only Esther Gonzalez and Lina Magull found their way past Mary Earps in that tournament. That's how difficult it is to score a goal against England! It takes quality to do that!

Means a lot when you won your an inspiration to lot of young supporters specially little girls who want to grow and be like you.

I'm not crying, I work out! Love the Lionesses, everything just came together perfectly for them in this tournament and I'll never get tired of reliving it. I doubt they will as well. What a legacy. Great to see Beth Mead win SPOTY too, well deserved.

Such a great programme about a stunning story. What makes me so proud is the attitude of the women, how mindful and respectful they are of the history and of those who went before them and what amazing role models they are. So hard working, mentally and physically strong. But also humble.. A true team with superb support and leadership. Totally love them.
