What a great idea!

They both miss their mums and family, so instead they found each other to be their family.

Thank you Holly for rescuing these vulnerable animals in need. Cutting the baby wombat out of his dead mom's pouch must have been really difficult to do emotionally in the moment, even though you were determined to save the baby.

I wonder if Buggy carries a picture of Wally around in his pouch.

It's easy to see "best buddies" relationships and how cute they are but it is thoroughly wrong-headed. Living with humans is not even that great for other humans sometimes and it is silly sentimental crap that is foreign to their nature. They are wilds animals who have adapted themselves to the life they live in the wild, not toys for us to get all warm and fuzzy over. I don't know where everyone else is from but I'm in the States and I'm guessing that the sympathy and righteous indignation that folks make of animals on the other side of the globe would be less enthusiastic if it was the folks down the road keeping wild animals captive. We get singing "Born Free" when the wild animals are nearer to us than Australia.

I found an Opossum hit by a car here in Indiana, I was scooping it up to use for compost and to keep its skull, aS it was relatively all intact. When I got closer, I found a bunch of baby opossums crawling out of mom's pouch, so I gathered them all up and took them to a sanctuary by me who I had worked with in the past. To my knowledge, all 7 of the babies that arrived alive have survived to adulthood and one of them has even taken to being used as a demonstration animal for kids in their classrooms or on field trips to the sanctuary because he's so friendly. Marsupials are awesome.

The news media and social media has always been like that, not enough positive uplifting stories and there are a lot of that out there. It seems we are all of like mind. I too stay away from the news and all the chaos it airs so as to avoid bad feelings and anxiety. I found this guy on here called James Blackwood raccoon wisperer, you might enjoy his videos since you liked this one. I have no affiliation with him so I'm not suggesting him for any purpose other than to bring some more happiness to you all. When I can't sleep I will click on his nightly video and watch in wonder at how all these wild raccoons come for dinner every night. It's crazy but so cool. It's interesting, that wombat is almost like an Aussie version of capybara.

Yep but the capybara is a rodent and the wombat is a marsupial like kangaroos, platypus, wallabies, Tasmanian devils and all sorts of very strange creatures from down under. Marsupials are really diverse, there even was a wolf-looking marsupial that went extinct in the 20th century, the thylacine.

@@christinemurray1444 Marsupials are amazing! A platypus is a monotreme (mammal that lays eggs) though, not a marsupial - a very strange creature indeed!

@@theusebieocean8609 Animals are not aware of the concept of morals and thus are neither innocent nor guilty in any way that approximates human emotions. Pretty much all wild animals spend their time looking for food and eating it--whatever "it" may be--and then sleeping until they are hungry again. Young animals do interact and play together but it is born of an instinct to acquire the skills that they need to survive.

I'm sitting here evaluating the changes I would have to make in order to have a Wombat and Kangaroo in my life.

I feel a little bit bad for the Emu. He's like "Hey, wanna hang out and be friends?" And Buggy is like "No you're not Wally! LEAVE ME ALONE!"

I hope this is a Sanctuary Farm. At least for Ernie, Wally and Buggy it is.

Family is what you make. They needed each other and it was wonderful for them to have that time together. . It's so sweet. I know they have to be released but dang. Bittersweet.

I’ve heard several people describe Wombats as “solid as a brick.” It’s not an insult, it’s just a biological fact. I believe that their hind quarters are reinforced with extra bones plates. They like to dig out their own dens. If a predator sneaks up to bite them on the backside, all they get is a hard boney mouthful of nothing.

I can confirm this isnt true, wombats can be very agressive. Especially older females. Trust me, my job for three years was going into a wombat den at night to catch them for a zoo tour

That’s the sad part when they get to that part of release it’s hard to avoid. She said Wally was nocturnal so it was bound to end but a great friendship while it lasted ❤
