@@joehand2156 True and with Walmart, people think it is great because of the cheap prices, but they have no clue what they have done to be able to do that. Wally was smart, he knows how to enslave the shopper. Take away their decent paying jobs and close the competitor department stores down, then sell them the same product cheaper. The lower class don't have much of a choice. Many Middle Class folk remain ignorant and only care about cheap prices. There is a lot more, but search for "Walmart the High Costs of Low Prices" documentary. Very interesting.

This is directly from information on the bureau of labor statistics website on workplace homicide rates. The rough treatment of citizens under the guise of officer safety, is entirely unfounded an unsupported by the facts, the stats.

I was accused for shop lifting when I was waiting for my meds at the pharmacy. I just was walking around checking savings items. I picked three and put them all back. The Manager came to me and said to come to his office and said,"you shop lifted. He made me throw everything outta my purse and checked my jean pants pockets. And then after it was over he told me to leave. No apology. Nothing! I had to leave without my meds and came back three days later. I switched pharmacy right after that.

When I worked at Wal-Mart, after about 5 months, I noticed 2 new employees that didn't seem to fit in anywhere. They walked the aisles together, and seemed very cold and unresponsive to other employees greetings. I learned they were new security that Wal-Mart had hired because of all the shop lifting in the store. They didn't last long. There were to many complaints from customers about them. Following folks out to their cars, following folks into restrooms, following folks around the store...they were really creepy. One day they followed an elderly couple out to their car, and then tried to detain them, and keep them from leaving. They accused them of stealing from the store. Long story short, the old guy had a heart attack and ended up in the hospital. Cops were called and found out the couple had not stolen anything. There was a lawsuit and Walmart lost. Typical Wal-Mart security tho. Dumb as they come.

Security for stores have the authority to make a citizens arrest, and that's what they did here. The police were there to just take her to jail or issue her a citation. If Walmart tells them they saw her steal something they take them at their word. This was Walmart's fault. The judge should have thrown the police department out of the lawsuit all together.

I'm special-needs as well (high-functioning autism/PDD-NOS, ADHD, and SPD among other issues) and I was almost in the same situation at Livonia Wal-Mart (probably the same one, since AFAIK there's only one Walmart in Livonia) many years, maybe even a decade or two ago. I was shopping at Walmart with my mom, and I was looking for those clear plastic sleeves that you put in wallets to keep & display credit cards and photos and such like that. But before I bought it, I wanted to make sure that the sleeves I bought would fit inside my wallet especially because I cannot drive due to my disabilities, and given that Livonia opted out of public bus services, if the sleeves didn't fit in the wallet, it would be a much bigger hassle to go back to Walmart in person to return it. So since IIRC the sleeves weren't in plastic wrap, but rather, were just in an open pile, I took one and opened my wallet to see if the sleeves would fit inside. Unfortunately they didn't because the sleeve holder (the part that you slide into the pocket in the wallet) was too big for the pocket in my wallet. So after trying unsuccessfully to maneuver it into the wallet pocket, I gave up, took the plastic sleeves out, and put it back on the shelf, put my wallet back into my purse so I wouldn't lose it, and then went back to shopping with my mom for other stuff. A little while later, a Walmart guy stopped us and accused me of stealing a WALLET from the purse section (not even the cheap plastic photo sleeves which is what I was looking at, but an actual wallet, which I'd never even more than just glanced at while walking!) and wanted to take me to the security office alone. But fortunately my mom was with me, and she had been no more than a few feet away (she has medical issues and was in a scooter and though she couldn't get the scooter into the narrow rack area where I'd been, she was in the aisle right outside it) and knew I hadn't taken anything. So when the Walmart guy was insisting on taking me to the back alone saying that the security video showed I had put the stolen wallet back in my purse, and they needed to search me in private, we told him I had nothing to hide, and would empty my purse for him right then & there -- and I did, and of course there was no stolen wallet, no stolen anything for that matter. Only just my own stuff in my purse that I had walked into the store with. Incredibly, the Walmart guy STILL tried to cover his a$$ and accuse me of stealing my own wallet from the store..................until my mom pointed out the clearly fraying edges & loose threads, the color fading, and other signs of long-term use on my almost totally worn-out wallet, not to mention the fact that the brand on the wallet was one that Walmart didn't even carry! So ultimately he was forced to let me go. But after hearing a story like this, and knowing how I get can get overwhelmed and flustered when I feel intimidated, I shudder at what might have happened if I'd been alone (as I sometimes am, because I am relatively high-functioning and CAN do things like shopping, errands and such on my own) and hadn't had my mom to back me up! Walmart including its customer service and loss prevention departments SUCK, and what happened to me, and now this poor lady, is just one of many, many reasons, that I haven't been to or shopped at Walmart in YEARS and never plan to do so again!!

Livonia’s statement is just the true definition of denial and stupidity. The dialer of the 911 call said NOTHING about Jodi having a weapon, and it probably would have been found on her while she was detained. They claimed that Jodi responded violently, meanwhile there was no evidence AT ALL that she did. Do the officers have bodycams? That would just wreck their already whack arguement.

An apology from the police? Never, ever! And, most likely, from the net investigation, they will determine all the police officers did nothing wrong and will face no consequences as usual. Qualified immunity for police officers must be eliminated. Police officer(s) must have reasonable articulable suspicion (RAS) that a person committed a crime in order for a person (Jodi in this instance) to furnish his or her identification and be detained. Unfortunately, having special special needs, Jodi was mentally incapable of relaying a response to the officers, who ultimately never asked Jodi for RAS. Since Jodi was very upset, they should have performed de-escalation techniques, certainly not by tackling her to the ground. Hence, they violated the law. Moreover, the police should not have ignored the cousin and her legal guardian. Consequently, Jodi should never have been separated from them. Additionally, with no established RAS, the police officers performed an illegal detention, especially one without her legal guardian/cousin being present. These police officers are deplorable and utterly criminal.

Eric Yoder Actually you are incorrect. The whole idea that you can resist an officer who has reasonable suspicion to detain you is simply wrong and is a falsehood that is spread around on the Internet. The courts have ruled that even if you know you are innocent you must comply with the officer who has reasonable suspicion that criminal activity is afoot. The reason the courts ruled you are not to resist (which she did by not letting them cuff her and is why they brought her down to the ground off of her feet, standard practice for “no” people) is because they do not want people fighting the police on the streets and escalating the situation until someone gets seriously hurt. The court room is where you fight it out, not the street. Once the officer completes his investigation and forms probable cause that you committed the crime then they can formally arrest you and bring you in for booking. They can legally detain you including cuffs if they feel you are uncooperative while they investigate at the scene. If they cannot form probable cause as in this case then they will release you. I worked my career in the criminal justice system and know what I am talking about. With that said I think the police could have handled the situation much better and not have escalated the situation. I would not have cuffed her, I would have listened to both sides, investigated the allegations before cuffing anyone as long as she was not trying to leave the scene.

I have little respect for police. They are to protect and serve and uphold the constitution, fact is more than 75% of men and women of law enforcement aren't fit. It's not a job, it's not a hobby, it's supposed to be thier way of life...instead of keeping up with the laws in thier own community, or protecting what is right, they rather treat it like some big shot power hungry gang bang and bully people into submission, they would rather cost someone thier home, thier families. Thier jobs. Of course it's a danger, I admit that it's one of the most dangerous careers a person can have. But 80% of the time it's just bullshit traffic stop harrassment, like they can obviously see your not a threat, and instead of letting you go they want to take ad much time possible to waste...instead of helping someone that really needs it. Treats everyone like a criminal...when they are no better.

Why? Special needs is no excuse for breaking the law. The family even said themselves that they make sure to have at least one family member keeping an eye on her, and yet the very next sentence, they explain that they let her wander off on her own. It's their own fault that this happened. She took an item, she set off an alarm at the exit because the item hadn't been paid for, and they called her out on shoplifting. Intention or not, shoplifting is a crime, and she was uncooperative. As for the police getting rough, do you even shop at Walmart? It's a cesspool of the shady and ill-intentioned. Its customer base is majority petty criminals, trying to take stuff whenever they can. I know; I've had to shop there a few times due to financial constraints. Walmart attracts criminals, and that's what the police were prepared to face. So when the woman started freaking out and saying not to touch her, they did what they believed they had to do. The only people in the wrong here is the woman's family for not keeping a an eye on her. 6/2/2019 Hey, you. Yeah, you, the little shit-stain that's about to start typing, "i HoPe YoU kNoW sHe DiDn'T sTeAl AnYtHiNg." Yes, I'm talking to you. Read the next two comments. You were about to add to the problem of people just like you trying to tell me off for something that was already acknowledged and amended months and months and months ago. You're not defending the innocent special needs community from vile villains like me. You're compounding the issue that people just like you are all guilty of "bUt I dOn'T wAnNa ReAd 200 cOmMeNtS." You don't have to, you just need to read 3; mine, the person who corrected me when I just listened to the video as background noise, and my response to the reply when I eventually re-watched it, and saw where I misunderstood, acknowledging that I was wrong the first time. After that, if you feel so inclined, you can keep going. You'll even see what looks like some comments were deleted. They were. At one point, there were 120 comments, and then, overnight, it dropped down to like 60. Then it kept going from there. Do us both a favor, and read just 2 more comments after this one. If you don't, then I'll know that not only did you not read my second comment, but you couldn't even be bothered to finish reading my first one, and I will not hold back in mocking you for it.

Awl Police ARE educated on dealing with speds. And if you watched the story, you'd know that these cops were RE-educated on the matter after the incident. Kent I was pretty sure the detectors went off at the door, but I might have been mistaken. I don't feel like re-watching the whole thing minutes after I just woke up, so I'll take your word for it. Even still, I stand by what I said. It's the family's fault for letting the sped wander around unsupervised. No, a cell phone isn't sufficient. Speds are like dogs; they need consistency. You can't claim to provide constant supervision, but then actively let them wander around on their own. This is what happens.

You're barking up the wrong tree. Walmart employees are one of the most ill-trained employees in the United States, and for one horrible reason. They're almost never kept around thanks to federal laws that make sure employees receive annual pay raises the longer they're employed by the same company as a way to insure peoples' earnings against inflation. So after a while, Walmart goes out of their way to ensure that employees either quit, or get fired. That way, they don't have to pay as much per employee, and instead can simply hire new ones at minimum wage for a year or two before dropping them as well. While it keeps expenses within the company low, it also guarantees that there are virtually no experienced employees at any store in the nation. I'm legally blind, so I can understand where you're coming from. Honestly though, you're just better off shopping elsewhere. Between the refusal to keep employees for very long, and the kind of customers that Walmarts tend to attract, you're just better off shopping locally; everyone is. And if for some dumb reason you need to shop at a huge business, just get a Costco membership. They have employees that stick around for years, making between $16 and $20 an hour, and who know what they're doing. But if you can, just shop locally.

Its not like Sam's club where you sign a contract. is a few videos on KZread from attorneys telling you not to show your receipts at these public stores

They handled this so so wrong. I used to work at Target for a couple of years and asset protection would watch people and one would go look at cameras while others would watch them check out. They would then calmly ask for the receipt and check through their bags. They would NEVER lay a hand on anyone and stop them from leaving the store. We would call the police for that. If everything was done correctly they should have looked at the receipt and that would be it. Plus what a waste of time that the police come out for hair ties. We would never call them for that. Then the police did a terrible job handling it as well.

@@breakingames7772 So basically, anybody can walk out of the store without paying and claim to have paid for it and that they don't have to show them a receipt? I feel like comments like this could potentially incite theft as anybody could just lie about paying and hide behind privacy laws to get away with stealing.

The Police: "We had no idea she had special needs!" ... The best part was they had a receipt, which was used in evidence in the lawsuit for unlawful detainment. Like, how fucking dumb do you have to be to call the police and detain a customer for stealing something THAT YOU HAVE A RECEIPT FOR!

What probably happened was that the disabled woman was scared and didn't know she had to put her hands behind her back, she was probably using a lot of force resting to be grabbed by the arms to the fat ass cops used there heavy weight sumo tactics to put her on the ground where they can cuff her easier, I'm sure she wasn't brutally slammed like the title suggests or the mother definitely would have made a bigger point about it and the news would focus more on the physical bodily harm evidence. Police don't have the training to calm a special needs person so they did what they knew how to do. It's bad leadership of the law enforcement agency.

This is horrible. My son is 23 and has autism along with developmental and cognitive delays. His mind is like a toddler. He wouldn't understand what was going on if this happened to him. This was so wrong from everyone involved that treated her so unfairly. Her grandmother said she has special needs. Isnt that enough explanation? Does violent force need to be done? So sad this happened to her. I hope justice was served for her
