Woman is Obsessed with Looking Like A Celebrity | Spendaholics | Only Human

Meet 23-year-old Roxanne. She’s dedicated her life to dressing like Hollywood royalty. In a less than glamorous receptionist job with the local council, Roxanne earns just £12,000 per year and her cravings for celebrity clobber come at a price. In just two years Roxanne’s clocked up an unfashionable £14,000 debt, more than a whole year’s salary. Roxanne wants to turn her passion for A-list fashion into a new career, but the reality of her debt means she’s stuck in a rut and heading for skid row.

When I was younger and had a craving for something that I should probably not buy, I would simply leave the store and tell myself I could always go back and get the item that I fancied if I really wanted it. I ended up replacing my shopping addiction with a heroin addiction in the end and now once again I can’t afford to go out and live my life. Addiction is no joke whether that is a psychological addiction or a chemical dependancy. Shopping addiction needs to be taken more seriously, it’s very real. It’s a form of escapism, just like an addiction to drugs or alcohol. people with shopping addiction need help just as much as someone with a drug addiction. it’s filling a void. I completely get where this girl is coming from. I went through frivolous spending when I was younger but when I started doing social work, one of the things I had to do was teach financial literacy and household budgeting for women’s shelters, high schoolers and recovering addicts. I realized how my ridiculous my spending habits were and completely changed things. I really think household budgeting should be taught in school. I notice that a lot of people my age have terrible spending habits.

Why did that guy want her to be angry with her mom so badly? She said she wasn’t. I think it was kind of messed up to tell her how she needs to feel. I do NOT miss the eyebrow fashion from the 2000s. Not that today’s exaggerated Instagram brows are much better but those pencil thin lines do no one a favour. As to the girl... I really wanted to shout at her to find a hobby. Shopping and fashion magazines ARE not a hobby!!!

Honestly she should be selling a lot of her purses and shoes, that would help her to tackle the debt a little more each month

I agree! Back then eBay wasn’t inundated with businesses, she would’ve made a lot of money.

I know people are ragging on her for her clothes but I have to say I liked this episode. I see where she used shopping to fill a void her mom and previous social life left. Poor girl. I cant imagine losing my mom. I totally understand her feelings. I think the crew handled it really well too by giving her money to spend getting out ofthe house. Ultimately I thought she justneeded to be surrounded by loved ones

As Dolly Parton says "it takes a lot of money to look this cheap!" When I was working and had " to dress" for my position, I went with classics. Now I'm retired and own a small ranch, t-shirts and blue jeans are my normal wear - that's good for working with animals and going into our small rural town for shopping.

@@moominmay it's NOT the 90s as a person who was teenager during the time in which Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton were super popular, this TV show is clearly 2003 - 2007. For example the terrible music (playing in the background) and the tragic fashion gives me flashbacks to that period in time.

I was a teen when I watched this episode for the first time, like everyone I focused on the shopping. Two decades later I can relate, after my mom died I turned to alcohol and shopping.
