As far as I can tell none of his previous arrests were for violence against people. One burglary, a couple vandalisms, and then a whole bunch of trespassing, and "disorderly conduct (solicit lewd act)" (which could be cruising or prostitution).

I was a BART rider for many years. I witnessed people trying to shove riders onto the tracks several times over the years, and even helped rescue a man who someone pushed on the tracks. BART cops do not patrol the stations. BART cops don't even answer calls when you report crimes. I gave up riding BART after I was beaten for trying to stop some guys from molesting a frightened young woman and took the ferry from Oakland to San Francisco, instead. Tripled my commute time but at least I was safe. I advise that no one should ride BART if they can possibly avoid it. If you can't, do not ride after dark. Tourists should NEVER ride BART. Do not stand near the platform's edge and do NOT stand facing the tracks. Take your headphones off and look up from your phone. BART cops will NOT protect you and they won't even apprehend most suspects. BART cops basically "quiet quit" after BART cop Johannes Mehserle was convicted of killing Oscar Grant in 2009. I once called BART cops when some thugs blocked all exits from the 12th Street station and demanded a "toll" from riders. The dispatcher refused to send anyone, but she did chuckle and say "You can always do a citizen's arrest." Then she hung up. I called the Oakland PD and they told me to call the BART cops. I got on the train and went to the next station and walked home from there.

This is also happening in NYC Subways. Why don't they put rails to keep people from getting shoved onto the tracks ... or even to prevent people from accidentally falling. By law in many states, if you build a deck, you have to build a rail to keep people from falling off the edge.

This is horrible. I've seen a lot of the crazies on BART myself. So I ask, why are we allowing the homeless to live on BART trains? Why are we letting highly disturbed mentally ill people ride the train? Why are people using/smoking hard drugs on the BART trains? Why is BART so relaxed about paying fares? BART would get a lot more ridership from the productive members of society if these trains were ACTUALLY safe. Noting will ever change.
