About a year ago, I asked her to take BART back from SFO after a vacation. It was a mistake. At one point, there were six drug users in the car and only four normal passengers. One of the users, paranoid and agitated, sat next to the door. He took off his shirt, dropped the contents of his backpack, including drugs and a 4-inch knife, and glared at anyone walking by. He was too high to manage putting his things back into the bag. Another drug user on that same ride dropped his (likely stolen) bike in the middle of the aisle and people needed to step over it to get to the door. After that, I never asked her to take BART again, and I have stopped using it myself.

BART is extremely safe these days. This case is definitely an exception rather than the rule. This is the first murder this year on BART. From the beginning of the year BART carried over 25 million passengers in the last six months. One murder for 25 million rides is extremely low for an urban rail system anywhere. Check the crime stats for the NY Subway, the DC Metro, the London Underground, or even the Tokyo Metro. BART is a loooooooot safer than your average subway, and by a very large margin. This is a very sad case, but let's not spread weirdo right wing propaganda about transit being unsafe when it very clearly isn't.

Yeah, BART cops don't do fare inspection at all. BART has completely separate uniformed fare inspectors that do the fare checking. But they don't look like cops. They have regular BART uniforms on and don't carry guns. BART cops are also known for being, if anything, too aggressive with perpetrators. If they see you doing something you're getting arrested and they won't be gentle either! The actual problem is that we don't have enough BART cops in the system. BART is a giant system with 50 stations in five different counties and three major cities that are open for 16-17 hours a day. BART simply doesn't have enough cops to cover every single station for the entire time that the system is open every day.

But people will still be able to “piggyback” (run in behind a person who’s paid while the fare gate is still open). There’s no way to stop that from happening unless they have a FT police officer at every gate in every station which obvs they won’t do because it’s ridiculously expensive. For perpetrating the LIE that St George Floyd died by the police when in REALITY he overdosed on fentanyl and ASKED to be placed on the ground and was saying "I can't breathe" when he was in the police cruiser. But these evil LIARS made him a saint. All hell broke loose after that LIE. Black people committing MORE crime, no charges, EVERY COMMERCIAL HAS TO HAVE A BLACK PERSON IN IT or every black man gets a white woman. It's a hilarious Democrat promise. Social engineering done by the FAKE NEWS. They are the enemy of the people.

That would be too safe to have a barrier that raises and lowers. And a elevated platform can easily have a barrier come up from below to block anyone on the tracks until the train stops. Why fix any issues with safety. It's about how much money they can make

This whole story shows how broken our system is in so many ways. A 74-year-old should not be working, let alone working a night shift. This "transient" should have received real help a long time ago. It shouldn't take them murdering someone to realize that they are a danger to themselves and others. Public transportation and all public infrastructure needs real investment in this country. It needs to be reliable and safe. We deserve to be able to have another option besides cars. This woman and her family deserved better.

It’s because she is Filipino. Many Filipinos travel to other countries for work so that they can earn more money & send money to their loved ones, family or children back home. They are called FOWs (Filipino Overseas Workers). It’s very hard to find a good paying job in the Philippines even if you graduated college with a high degree, because there is so much corruption that goes on & politicians pocketing money & using it to fund their lavish lifestyles to buy mansions or expensive cars. Many Filipinos will work until they are unable to walk long distances anymore. They will work way beyond retirement age just to earn money to send to their loved ones in the Philippines.
