    This tool is brilliant. You HAVE to have one if you are doing this type of joint. Practice first on some scrap bits and then once proven you are away - and it’s so fast with great accurate joints. Bolti

    I have just used this jig for the first time and it was faultless, the instructional video is excellent covering most common joints, considering the cost of the dowelmaster against other makes Jessem , dowelmax etc for the non professional it's a no brainer £17 against £200 for the dowelmax as I mentioned, unless you are a professional woodworker get the dowelmaster you won't be disappointed, well done wolfcraft!

    I bought this last week, it is a great product, however it is not easy for diyers with little experience like myself.My dowels were a bit out of angle, about 2 degrees. Clamped connection of your work to a workbench or workmate is essential. And my depthstop I bought was a bit to wide and made contact with the curved side alongside the drillhole on the dowelmaster. But this can be fixed be removing the green part of the guide or moving it slightly. Great product! My first attempt made a good edge to edge connection and it was completely flat. I joined two timber panels on the long side, two metres in length and 30mm x 200mm dimension.

    The lenght of the dowel is 40mm. In order to provide some space for the glue on each side 1 mm is additionally needed. So the connection has maximum strength.

    Good tool, but this was our first time using the jig and our timber was 40mm thick, at 4.50 in the video our jig would not sit flat on the base to drill the matching holes because of the height of the dowel was tipping it, we didn't notice this at first and ended up with wonky holes! We had to put a thin piece of hardboard below the jig to align everything before drilling.

    This tool is beautiful, so simple and powerful ;-) I spent a while looking for something like that. I am going to do some DIY work - workbench and other simple items - and I am still collecting all essential tools. I do not have too much experience, but I believe it is very hard to put both holes for each dowel straight. Dowelmaster sounds like a good tool for a good price. And no, I am not paid from Wolfcraft it is just spontaneous reaction ;-)

    "To draw the top a little bit back" is to get a 2-3 mm safety distance. It is important that the Dowelmaster with the green stopper is in contact with the bottom board only down and not with the top, otherwise the corner connection would not flush. Therefore, you move the top board "a little" backwards (about 2mm)!

    What is the distance between a fully withdrawn ‘stop’ and the centre of the drilling hole. I need to use it to join 45mm thick boards, so obviously hoping the distance will be at least 22.5mm. Obviously my board is too thick for the auto centring method.

In the hangman’s gibbet there is a cross piece which has a 45 deg. at either end which attaches to the other 2 pieces and it is this cross piece which I would like to join with dowels. I’m sure the Dowelmaster can achieve this joint but I don’t know how. Your help would be gratefully appreciated.

    The marking itself is not necessary - it is done demonstrate the way how the product works. It has no influence soever, as the precision is defined through the preadjusted fence. The guidance is done through the dowel pin. So the pull back action has absolut no influence on the precision!

    @matttreerat8673

    2 жыл бұрын

    My thoughts exactly. I have never moved the top clamped piece back and it's always been spot on. Also I have never glued the dowels into one section first before drilling the adjoining piece. This gives you a bit more room to adjust if you're a bugs hair out on alignment. Clamp well on doing the t-joints with high gloss/smooth panels. As the top section can slide back a few mm if you're not careful with keeping the drill bit straight in the jig. It's a good bit of kit that I'm now using too build a 2.5 meter wardrobe. Everything is spot on so far just keep the above tips in mind, double check and you be ok.

    @@matttreerat8673 I’m guessing it may be that it looks okay if the corner sits in a mm or so but looks off if it sits out ( overlaps). I’ve tried it and a slight roll back did work better but then it comes down to judgement and the jig is supposed to make that unnecessary. Good luck with your project.

  • @matttreerat8673

    @matttreerat8673

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@lilhyena7534 Dowel thickness should be no less than 1/3 and no more than 1/2 the thickness of the board. So you're good for 6mm or 8mm dowels. I spaced them 6 inch / 150mm apart. With the end ones I had the jig flush with the end of the board, so roughly 3 inch. For t-joints depth using 30mm long dowels I drilled 12mm deep on the flat surface and 20mm into the end of the the other board. Use a drill stop or tape around the drill bit to make sure you don't punch through on the flat surface. Take into consideration the point depth if using a brad point drill bit. Knock a few bits of scrap wood together to see how you do before you go all in on your project. You can always use confirmat screws and a dedicated step drill bit by trend if you don't fancy the dowel route. Hope that helps, if in doubt google it.
