I think open sites would do better in this case rather than a scope. Can't see more than 50 yards in that thick brush and the wolves are so close. Probably should hunt with a buddy as well. Can't be too careful! Just some thoughts but I've never hunted wolves... Thanks for posting!

I made 9 trips from Pa. to Idaho to hunt elk and deer, first trip in 91, before wolves were reintroduced and last trip in 2005, 10 years after wolves were reintroduced ... OMG what a difference in the game herds ! In 91 I thought I was in a sportsman's paradise ! Me and my 2 friends walked into an area we had never been to, without guides or horses and harvested 3 nice bull elk. By 2005, we said this is our last trip because there was nothing left to hunt ! We were there the whole general rifle season in 05 and only saw 2 bull elk ! Sometimes we would go a whole week without seeing a single elk ! I remember hiking into areas in the dark with flashlights and hiking out with flashlights and hearing packs of wolves howling and it made every hair on my body stand up straight !

It's not hunting, sport or 'harvesting ', just pointless killing and destroying the environment. Left alone, the numbers of predators and prey will balance out. People with guns, satellite tracking, SUVs are killing for no reason. I guess it makes beta men feel like they've got a big penis.

Just curious, what is a low population of elk? Just googling I’m seeing 125,000 elk in Idaho today I’m cuties what it was in early 2000s. Are we talking like 100,000 elk or 20,000? Can’t believe we have 1,000 here in PA now. Can’t imagine them expanding east in PA

curious. did they lift the ban on the use of electronic calls for wolf in Alberta? I also reside in Albert, maybe it's just my area that electronic calls are not permitted for wolf or cougar. I hunt both and when I first started to pursue both species I was stopped by fish and wildlife for a spot check and was informed that I was not permitted to use electronic calls for wolf or cougar but hand to mouth calls are permitted. which I had both with me that day but because I was driving and not actually at my spot that I was hunting, the officer had only given me warning about that electronic call and was informed not to use it while in the course of hunting wolves or cougar.

This another wolf hunting video I have watched the AR 15 or AR 10 would have dominated those wolfs! What I see also again the AR 15 or AR 10 with quick release scope then keep open sites with you to fast change from scope to open sites would be very valued. I have my 4 AR 15 uppers set up for quick change scope to open sites and back again and the same for the AR 10 I have with 3 uppers can be changed fast from scope to open sites and back again. I wonder the toughness of these wolfs? how hard are they to kill for judging the smallest sized rifles to use? I would give a try for wolves with my AR 15 in 6mm x45 because I load up to 100 grain bullets in it and for my AR 10 out of 3 caliber uppers, I would use the 6 mm -284 win for light recoil to stay on target after firing. I wish someone would make a video where to start looking for wolf's what part of the state and share that info. The more wolf's killed the better for managing the wolf's.

A quick google search will turn up several maps showing where many of the packs' ranges are as well as which counties have had the most wolf damage (to both wildlife and livestock). I would recommend going to those counties and locate the wolves, then move in and set up on them. Concerning an AR set-up. I agree I wish more guys would use AR's for wolf hunting as I believe this guy could have easily killed several more. However, I would disagree about removing the scope in the field while hunting. I understand changing the scope between uppers however there is no need to "fast change" as you put it while hunting. Instead consider using and offset sight mount and then you can simply and quickly tilt your rifle inward and use iron sights or a red dot. This makes the transition super quick. Anyway, good luck to you in the future.

AR is the only way. I would have been mauled to death if it weren't for my AR15. After shooting one the others kept charging at me. It was neck hair raising being surrounded by them. If I had a bolt action I wouldn't be here typing this. Wolves are freaking bold, 10 years ago I don't remember then being this bold. If I shot one the rest would retreat. Last year was different they kept charging in intervals every few minutes. I never been so scared in my life. AR15 is the only way for me. Don't risk your life out there.

So, you can kill more wolfs in those critical seconds you have when they come go kill a Coyote then tan the hide then mount it for a decoy to set by the caller and you need to be standing out of site like use a tree. You can also mount a wolf for a decoy the same as robot deer used by the cops, that would get the pack all pissed off by hearing the sounds then see a wolf not part of their pack! The wolves are coming to the sound then see the coyote or wolf decoy that will keep them there longer. You have to keep yourself out of site to get more shots on the wolfs because just look at a few of those wolf's when they see you, they bolted. You even get some camo fabric like camo bed sheet to hang up using close tins for you to stand behind to break up your body out line.

stinky Apparently, like most people like you have no clue what damage wolves have done!! Example, feel free to look it up! 1995 there were 27500 -32000 head of elk in the Jackson Hole, Yellowstone Ecosystem. Today the number is down to 4500-6000 left. Hunters don’t what to eliminate the wolves however, their numbers need be managed. With the wolf population over the carrying capacity they are actually doing harm to themselves with parvovirus and mange. Great news is wolf season opens here in Wyoming, bet your a$$ I’ll be after them! Now take some time and go educate yourself before making comments about something you have no clue about. You wanting to protect the wolves, well I’m here to protect the deer, elk, antelope, moose and the baby cubs that the wolves did up out of their den and kill them!!!

@@stevelefforge6689 If you claim the wolves are decimating elk populations, then the burden of proof is on YOU to provide the evidence. This, sir, is how logic works. You don't get to make a claim and then demand Stinky (haha) look for the evidence. And by evidence I mean scientific research, not anecdotal evidence from hunters who probably are only hunting in one small geographic region and then concluding since they aren't seeing elk that this must mean the overall elk population is being "decimated". I also find it curious that human beings spread over most of the North American continent in the current US and bred like rabbits, invading the wolves' territory and then have the audacity to say that wolves have upset the ecological balance when wolves, elk, deer, and other species flourished before settlers and their descendants brought civilization into the animals' habitat. I mean, the lack of reasoning is just astounding. And I say this as someone who grew up hunting and am usually very pro-hunter; that is, when hunters aren't behaving with zero respect for their prey or doing their usual fear-mongering.

I wouldn't call this hunting. You don't need specific skills to do that.

Wolves are endangered bro. Your state's awful senate just approved a bill to eliminate 90% of them back in April. I respectfully ask you to go after different animals.

@@MsTrint Why would you hunt wolves when there are less than 1,000 of them left in Idaho? Honestly, what do you get out of hunting an already threatened animal? Like I can understand hunting an animal if it's wreaking havoc on the ecosystem, but it's because of careless people like you that so many of these wonderful, beautiful species are already extinct 🙄

@@therealronniej There should be ZERO left in Idaho. Or anywhere else for that matter.

Wolves will absolutely wreak havoc on an ecosystem if numbers are left unchecked. Clearly your not understanding how hunting works.

What did this animal do to me, did you kill it, did you kill it, did your sheep eat it, protect it, did you kill it, and photograph it for me? Your boldness to add the number of followers and for KZread to give you money? You are afraid of it and that it is useful for me. Nature reduces the lack of desertification for me. Plants are an animal. We must think about God’s creation. I want to lose your advice. God looks after you, protects you, and guides you.
