Wolf Ammo Demonstration
Ойын-сауық
Wolf ammunition is a hot topic of conversation on the internet forums. Many of the comments I find people making about Wolf ammo do not mirror my own experiences. In this video I address some topics I didn't cover in my previous video, "True About Wolf Ammo".

The thing about the internet, ESPECIALLY pertaining to guns, is that people recite what they have heard....not what they have experienced.

Exactly. Guarantee a lot of the people that talk shit about steel case ammo never even shot it.

Right the guys who say Wolf ammo sucks are probably the same guys who say ARs from Anderson, PSA, Aero Precision, Spikes, Ruger (yes I have seen people trash Ruger, Aero Precision and Spikes), and S&W, are junk. And anyone who owns one is basically treated like a peasant in 17th century France. Just because we didn't feel like spending thousands of dollars on one rifle.

I'm a believer on that, I would rather find out for myself than going on with what I heard!! Lots of people robbing themselves on what they heard than finding out for themselves what's true!!!

Wolf makes some of the best 22lr on the market. If you want to shoot tight, consistent groups with your 22lr, getcha some Wolf Match Target ammo. Great vid as always.
I just recently hit the 10,000 round mark through my favorite AR-15. It is chambered in 7.62x39mm, has a Superior Arms lower and a no-name upper. It is fitted with an Osprey piston. I shot a box of 50 American Eagle rounds through it once, but otherwise has been exclusively Ulyanovsk/Tula/Wolf. It needed a slightly longer firing pin (purchased from Model 1) to reliably ignite the primers, but otherwise NO problems whatsoever.
Thanks for doing this video. I had a guy at a local big box store today try over and over to sway me from buying steel cased ammo for my AK-47 and Mini 14 today. I tried telling him that my firearms would be fine using steel cased ammo, but he kept on talking about how it was corrosive, would "tear up my guns", and numerous other urban legends about this ammo. I've shot steel cased ammo for nearly a decade and have never had a malfunction in any of my firearms due to the ammo. Thanks again!

Some of the other wolf brand ammo is corrosive, I have some of the 7.62x54r that is corrosive, but all you have to do is neutralize it with good ole H20.

@The Good Life Yeah, but you probably need to use twice as much ................
So far they've been good mags. I have a few of them and plan to test them long term through many rifles to see how they perform. But so far they've been 100% reliable.
Thank you, it is something I try to do -- keep things short and to the point. It's the type of videos I like, so I try to produce that type of video. Thanks for watching.
I've used it and had good results.
According to Wolf, they haven't used Tula ammo for a few years now.
It's a UW Gear bandoleer. It's my favorite mag pouch for general use.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll tone down the background music in future videos.
Yes, I have been contributing articles and videos for a little while now. It's a great blog and I'm glad to work with them.
You really changed my mind about wolf ammo with this video some months ago. Wolf is all I use to train with when shooting my .223 and 6.5 Grendel! Thank you sir 👍🏽
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoy the videos.
This is the information Ive been looking for. Thank you for the great video.
I really enjoy your videos. Always professional, clear & to the point. Very thorough without being long winded. Nicely done, as always.
I'm glad you find the videos useful. Thanks for watching.
Very consistent ejection patterns too out of each different rifle. That says a lot about how reliable the Wolf Ammo really is!!! Great vid Tim!
I've shot 330rds of Wolf 55 grain last week in 2 hour range session and another 10 rds of Federal xm193 for a total of 340 rounds without a single issue. I shot them with my LMT piston 16 inch. I've shot Wolf in previous session as well just not in that many rounds and the experience was 100%!! Thanks to you, MAC.
Thanks very much for the quick response. Of course, I always enjoy your videos, very professional and no nonsense. I've fired some 3k rounds of WPA through my Stag model 4 with no malfunctions at all.
The guys that talk shit about steel case ammo all have the same personality. They drive fancy cars, need name brand clothing, need mil-spec everything from their guns to their socks, and will always "look the part". They think they're going to war when they actually go to the range MAYBE once a week, if that. They probably won't ever shoot over 10K rounds through their $4K AR. Steel cases ammo is fine for the average shooter. Don't let these AR fan boys steer you from it!!!!

Once a week? Twice a year lol
i have to agree with the Sturmgewehre, Steyr AUG is in my opinion a far better rifle than a FN F2000 I had the chance to use them both and the AUG has a far superior reliability and ruggedness i used F2000 in Slovenian army and i have observed a lot of problems with the rifle besides the occasional malfunctions - things like cocking handle, brass guide/pusher and even locking lugs breaking quite often F2000 is light, accurate and has almost no recoil but i would choose AUG over it any day!
They are Mechanix Tactical gloves, you can find them on Amazon.
the subtle music in the background during scoped firing was a nice touch. cool video.
I've watched 2 of your reviews. Both excellent. I've never had any issues w/Wolf either. Thanks for explaining the heat issue and fire hazard for indoor ranges & why they don't allow use of the steel ammo.
I've heard people mention the over insertion issues but my two ACR's use primarily PMAGs and I seat them with a good whack. I've never had one over insert. Keep in mind my rifles are original Bushmaster rifles meaning they were made before the move to Remington/Freedom Group. Some things may have changed.
Great tip on the transition between steel case and brass, always informative, always niteresting, always entertaining. Semper Fi.
Sturm, great vid! I found it very informative. I shot mostly on the Kalashnikov platform, which most gun-folks say is "inaccurate" anyway. I say it depends on what your application for it is, and who you're asking. Vickers says it's good for 200m. It's designed for combat accuracy anyway, not 3-gun competition. I have wondered though if getting brass cased ammo would in fact make a huge difference in accuracy from a defensive standpoint. It looks like the answer is "not really". Thanks!
Yup, I've done this too and you're right -- it won't come off.
Another home sir you have really shed some light on the wolf misconceptions . I also like when you showed your extractor after countless rounds of wolf (in different video ) now I'm not worried about using wolf in my WW MPC
Yes, if you watch my Cerakote video you'll see me using Wolf doing a similar test with the Stag Model 8 I had Cerakoted FDE.
Wolf has been working for me for the better part of five years, love it!
If you have a non-mil-spec chamber (diameter and not chrome lined) there's little you can do to improve reliability except to pull your barrel and replace it with a barrel from a known mil-spec barrel manufacturer.
I've used it and find that it works well. I've had some problems with a batch of Silver Bear 5.45x39 being way under powered and causing malfunctions in all of my 74's. But it seemed to be an issue with a particular lot (which I unfortunately bought a bunch of).
Yes, any PMAG I use in my SCARs will be modified. The EMAG's need to be modified too, they have the same flaw that the PMAG has if you look. At least the few that I have did and required modification.
@Wildwestwrangler

Do the pmags need modified for AR-15's or just the scar?
You right as usual. I enjoy your straight forward unbiased reviews. Very refreshing compared to many biased people on the ar15 forums
Thank you for pointing out the primary cause of most function complaints about Wolf. The steel cases do not obturate as much as brass and allow for carbon fouling build up in the chamber. With tight chambers or non chrome lined chambers - that can cause issues.
No problem, things change quickly in this industry. But you were correct, Tula at one time was a supplier to Wolf.
Great video, I love to see different types of carbines being used.
I know a few shooters and none of them complain about Wolf ammo. I own many firearms and my preferred ammo is Wolf. I do clean and inspect my firearms often its a military habit picked up many years ago. I like this video and your presentation..... Thank You
I really appreciate your reviews. They are no bs reviews and very helpful. I wish wolf made non-magnetic fmj ammo but they don't. Most ranges won't let me shoot wolf
I also did another comparison by shooting wolf 55 grain (.223), pmc xtac 62 grain, and Hornady super performance 75 grain, and AE 55 grain 100 rd box (Walmart). They all shoot to the same point of aim at 100yd. Again, thank you MAC since i didn't shoot WOLF until early last tear when I first saw your channel.
I actually mowed the place this year too!
Much appreciated.
Try some Wolf, Brown Bear or Golden Tiger. The SKS is designed to fire steel cased ammo. Tula (not the same as Wolf) isn't known for their consistency in quality.
I chose it due to the size, weight and durability. It's small and unobtrusive plus it allows me a full co-witness of the iron sights.
@DeusMalleus iIf it rusts too much it can be a bad thing. A little rust won't be an issue in the short term but if its rusting now and you plan to store it that's a bad thing. Store it in a dry place without humidity. Put it in military ammo cans if you have to.
Thanks! This video supports my feeling on the use of Wolf. Good ammo at half the cost.
LOL. I'm not trying to make the price go up! I don't want it to get any more expensive either. But I constantly see people making comments online about the ammo that I don't believe are accurate so I want to inform people that the ammo is good to go in my experience and give a demonstration.
i love it, no unsupported opinions. great channel! subscribed!
thank you for doing this. So much blame is put on Wolf ammo related to malfunctions for no good reason.
I love when respectable channels do videos on real world experience with steel cased ammo. The group think about this ammo is ridiculous. I have used primarily steel cased ammo in my ARs since my first one in 2004 with zero problems. Not even mentioning the ammo shot through my Glock. Awesome vid my man.
The more you fire a rifle the more erosion you'll encounter of the bore. The hotter the barrel gets the more erosion you'll see as well. That's why military chrome line barrels were invented (not to reduce corrosion as some people falsely believe). The chrome lining is so hard that it extends the life of the barrel during rapid fire. I don't like to run more than 3-4 magazines quickly through my rifles to minimize the damage caused by long fast shooting strings to a barrel.
Great job, really appreciate your balanced reviews
Yes, most of the time I do unless I'm using a magnified optic.
I have used Tula but I primarily fire Wolf since it's commonly available around here.
I have shot Tula and Wolf steel case in my Ak also in 9mm for my 1911 and 45 in my XDs. I have not had any issue with it. My only issue on my AK is old mags and weak springs. Thanks for the video, keep up the good work.
Thanks for adding the vid and validating wolf as good ammo, it is slightly lower velocity than surplus but I shot a 1.1" group yesterday with wolf 62gr fmj sighting in a rifle with a 4x scope. Its runs fine in all my rifles. I was thinking if doing a similar vid.
My Colt LE6920 is one of my favorite rifles. Check out the review I posted of this rifle where I shoot it with Wolf.
I do that because sometimes cases don't go down the ejection chute and fall back into the action (not just with Wolf). I've really learned that the FS2000 is a bit fickle and not really a rifle I would want to be issued in the military.
Excellent as always. I believe you have one of the best channels on youtube. You have the thoroughness of NutnFancy, but do your videos in a timley manner. And the down to earth persona like Hickok45.

This video should increase Wolf ammo sales :) I myself was one of those that never wanted to buy Wolf ammo cause of its bad rep, but the tuth is one never knows till you try it. I will buy 100 next time and see how it does on my rifle. Appreciate the time time you took to do this. Thanks again for the video and the range report.
It does have a more pronounced recoil impulse. It's also a delayed impulse which gives is an odd feeling if you're used to an AR.
I love my windham weaponry HBC! Great video 👌
great review letting the facts speak for themselves. I will try out some wolf and see if my firearm likes it! Thanks for all you do!
Great topic! Thank you Sir! I have been thankful that the cheap Hertzers stuff has run in my gun without a hitch!
I am with you here. Thanks for the video. I have literally fired thousands of rounds and never had any malfunctions.
Don't worry I just found the answer on your AK reloading video. Keep up the good work, you make excellent videos!
Great vid , I've run every steel cased ammo I can find, never one stoppage in my AR.
great video bro this explained alot. i have always avoided this ammo because i have seen alot of jams...noncrome lined rifles all 223...now i know why. thanks
The barrel is considerably harder than the mild steel used in Wolf. The steel is low carbon and non-hardened. It can't damage high carbon hardened steel in any significant way.
I use Tula which is essentially the same as Wolf. Never had a problem. Love the stuff. It's cheap and it works perfect. Steel-cased ammo is great. Btw, I see you're using that UW Gear mag pouch. I just got me a few days ago and love it. Thanks for reviewing it!
Thanks, brother.
I've found that the most vocal critics of Wolf ammo are people who have never used it. They repeat things they've read on the internet as if they're fact and that's why I've made these videos. I use this ammo. A lot of it. It works for me.
I've used it before. It won't hurt your firearm and it works pretty good for me.
I learn more from your channel than any other..
Awesome video! very matter of fact, informative, and enjoyable to watch.
I am hoping to get my hands on a Steyr AUG A3. At that point I'll do a comparison between it and the FS2000.
Windham SRC & MPC ARs work just fine with steel. My buddy gave me 200rnds of loose silver bear 55gr steel cased .223 b/c he couldn't get 5 rnds through his Armalite/Colt hybrid w/o serious problems. He'd have to take apart the entire rifle every time it would jam b/c they were so bad. I took them gladly, went out and shot all 200 through my SRC w/o a single hiccup. Those were the first rounds I fired through the gun, too. Windham's specs are perfect. Very very happy.
Wolf uses a "bi-metal bullet". That means it has a lead core, wrapped in mild steel, then wrapped in copper. No, it doesn't damage your barrel. The steel jacket can cause sparks when it hits steel traps. Sparks at an indoor range with lots of unburnt powder lying on the floor can be a dangerous fire hazard. That's generally why it's prohibited. Then there are the range owners that think bi-metal bullets damage their traps, which it doesn't.
That's my kind if test! Nice job as usual!
I've always had good luck with Wolf and Tul ammo as well. I shoot steel cased ammo in everything, pistols and rifles. The only brass that I shoot is 22lr. Good info as always!
A good rifle with eat any ammo you feed it if you have a picky ass rifle throw that shit away! I hate rifles that only eat expensive ass ammo!

+762x39warrior +1 on that...I have a Jemak Gunfighter 47, and it will chew up and spit out the most disgusting shit imaginable...having said that, it gets a steady diet of Wolf WPA HP...and loves it. With hand loads (Hornady 123 gr SSTs) it will shoot 1.5 MOA all day/every day, and if I do my part, groups average about 1-1.25"...nothing wrong with the AK or Wolf Ammo...
I did one on the PU sniper.
Its unbelievable how much Tim has aged in 7 years. November 2019 currently.
After cleaning my extractor and bolt propably, brass ammo now works just as fine. Also: i never had a SINGLE malfunction with the rifle, prior to the date when we tried out the brass ammo.. btw: nice background music ;)
Be sure to only buy a few boxes to confirm function before buying bulk.
Hey, it was worth it just to see the smoking barrels. I have never had any problems with Wolf steel. And certainly never in the AK in which I mostly find Golden Tiger to be A-OK. Good report.
EXCELLENT VID! I've been telling people the same thing for many many years. I understand that things happen but out of many thousands of rounds I've only had one bad round from Wolf, it had a tore up primer. On the contrary ive had more bad rounds from the big name US made ammo. Unless they raise the price or the quality falls off I'll be shooting it. I also experienced the same accuracy with it as other ammo.
You need to store it somewhere away from humidity. A sealed case with a desiccant bag will stop the rust from forming. You can buy desiccant online, at some hardware stores, or just collect them as they are included in many products you probably already buy (backpacks, shoes, some dry food goods, etc.). The desiccant can be "refreshed" in the mircowave, but that's a bit of work to do it right.
I posted a link in the description for you.
Great video. I'm definitely going to try some.
I love wolf ammo, I've gone through about 2k rounds of 223 steel in the last year and a half, no issues ever. All 3 of my ARs eat them up ( stag, bcm, and PSA )
Golden Tiger is good ammo, however it's nearly impossible to get. I use mostly Wolf because it's accessible, works very well, gives me acceptable accuracy and is affordable.
Thank you, and thanks for the sub.
Great video. I have great results as well and use a few pallets a year.
A target rifle is designed to be shot from a bench whereas a fighting rifle is meant to be carried into the field. The weight of the MR556A1 relegates it to range duty.
Awesome, thank you for the reply. Love the videos.
Another great video thanks for the info, keep up the great work.
Semper Fi, brother.
