Heilung is like this huge, elemental entity. Not just a group of people making music. I tell you, the first time I heard them, they sent me straight into a trance. The beat of the drums alone is hypnotic, then the breathy\growled male singer comes in and puff... Bye-bye brain. Even right now is hard for me to focus on the comment while also listening the song. They are otherworldly 5:57 Yep. My face right after listening to them.

Heilung is a visceral, spiritual experience. When I hear their music... something inside awakens. Like a primal urge to find a life I once lived. To find the place where I belong (both past & present). They leave you shaken to the core and craving something unknown to you, and I love every second of it. Definitely got a new subscriber. Excited to see what comes next 💛

Man this song hits me in a emotional way... It always put me into tears... I don't know why... I think it gives me a feeling of freedom, like all my problems are washed away. That scene of the people aroud the fire under a moon eclipse makes me think how our lives are complicated and distracted from the good and simple things of life... The imagery of the birth also brings me the memories of my daughter being born in front of me, on my roon in my own house with me supporting my wife's labor... Great song, great band!

I never know whether to be happy or excited or calm or sad when I listen to their music. If only I could properly articulate how this makes me feel. It does not matter how many times I hear this song, I cry every time. Heilung is incredible! They call their concerts Rituals, and they really are, you just feel it thru your whole body! I am also the kid that ran around in the woods and felt most at home in the forest. Sometimes even now I just go outside and sit under a tree in my yard and just vibe, lol. If you haven't seen it, I would recommend watching The Charismatic Voice's interview of Maria Franz, it's so cool! Elizabeth is trying so hard not to fangirl (but fails) , it's delightful. 😂🤣 BTW, the high note section where you said, "that's beautiful," and that point you went back to for your outro, is a call to Kulning, an old form of herding call native to Scandinavia. It can be heard over great distances and was used, I belive primarily by women, to call the herds home. :)

In at 44 seconds... this never happens. More will be added as the video plays. ... Heilung is a band which can make music by scraping two flint shards together, stretching a hide over a bentwood frame. I've only listened to 5 or 6 of their songs, and this strikes me as making the most concessions to the modern ear. Some of the droning notes are the human voice, and some may be a highly eq'd instrument like a tagelharpa, but in this I hear either and organ or a mellotron-emulation. Oh, and their choice or reverb-sources is outstanding !! Often the reflections and sustain reach out past 2 seconds, which is beyond any plate I know of. And Maria Franz' bird calls, crow echoes and other woodland murmurs are delicious ear candy.

I soo much like your reaction to this. Can I just add som points that are important in seeing this? The most important being that the child is born under an eclipse 0:56 (seen in background several times). According to previking believs they had very special gifts: hamnskifte (= the ability to change appearance), age shift, talking to animals, and healing as in when she heals the bird. The previking time and it's religion (more animistic than polyteistic) in nordic countries is much more female oriented than the religion in the later years (viking gods like Tor and Oden with all the everpresent masculinity... ) The language (proto-norse) they use is only partially known and therefore reconstructed (in part reposted from another reaction)

It's great that you continue with the Heilung videos. Maybe try some of their live videos next? This band is not just music but a total experience. I saw them last year for the first time and it was truly an experience. A KZread video cannot give the feeling you get in a live experience. The band often performs in a dark space and uses lights and fog to create different situations on stage. They also use background performers, dancers, with the help of which they create different stories related to the lyrics of the song. And for example at the beginning of the concert, the band members first clean and sanctify the performance area. All in all, it was a really impressive performance and those low tones felt really strong in the body. An intense experience. Live performance, e.g. (from the band's own KZread channel) Heilung | LIFA - Krigsgaldr LIVE

I have never felt inclined to leave a comment on any video before yours. I'm a very spiritual person and have been listening to Heilung for over a year now. I happened on them by accident on Spotify, and down the rabbit hole I tripped and I am SO happy that I did. I also was prone to closing my eyes and losing myself in the music, and the stories they told. It's very moving, very connecting. After seeing the Live last year, I can legitimately say that it changed me. It is a whole experience and I highly recommend anyone to go see them, at least once. It will move you. It will change you. And it will bring you back to your roots. Also; "The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb.", meaning the family you choose is stronger than the one you are born with. Blessings.

I look out of the windows of my city apartment after hearing this song, and it feels like I'm missing something fundamental. I know what you mean about the rain of the leaves. That scene made me wonder how we got so far away from these simple and profound moments. It all seems so pointless when we toil away for money selling what precious time we have left, while our beautiful planet dies by a million cuts. All to feed our need to consume and use and discard what's left in a vain attempt to fill that growing hollowness inside that will never be filled. This band and this song in particular is so profound and it resonates so strongly with a part of me that has been mostly dormant for as long as I remember.

I personally thought that this video or the live one of Krigsgaldr would've given you a better initial impression of them than Norupo. I LOVED your reaction to Anoana!! How you relate to it, how it made you feel, what you shared... That's why so many ppl love them - their sound just resonates in a mysterious and beautiful way. If you can catch them live, you'll be in for an unforgettable experience! I loved them so much last year that I'm seeing them twice this October. Which I almost can't afford lol.

Oh you should do yourself a favor and go! You won't regret it! I've seriously never been so deeply impacted by music. I listen Heilung, and several other bands *sort of * similar to them, daily. Probably more often than I listen to metal, which is odd for me. I saw you reviewed Wardruna. I'll have to check that out next. I'm addicted to reaction videos (particularly those of Ren & Heilung) and wish I had the lady balls to do what you do.

Heilung can move you to so many different emotions with their music. Anoana almost always makes me tear up; it's that beautiful a song. I often listen to their first performance, Lifa when I'm working in my smithy, but when this track cues up I always take a break and just breathe for a minute. I can't even put into words how much I love this music or all of the powerful feelings it brings up in me.

Heilung is German for healing, cure, and that's their entire objective. To heal people with their music deeply rooted in the nature. I wholeheartedly recommend, if you get a chance, to see them live. You of all people will appreciate being fully immersed in this raw energy coming from the whole group of people (audience included), from the wall of speakers.

Hey, watched your two videos on Heilung and I love watching people experiencing this group for the first time. The way they combine beautiful hand made instruments and their voices, especially Maria Franz(The woman that you were a bit freaked out about in Norupo (which Norupo is actually an acronym) the first two letters throughout spell out the origin of the song. No - Nordic Ru - Rune Po- Poem Awoana is the story of an ancient and powerful shaman, born under the eclipse(which in Nordic Culture, were believed to bestow abilities on the child, be it shapeshifting, age, etc.) I've been listening to heilung for a little over three months now. Each one of their songs resonates with me in different ways. I listen to Norupo and Hamrer Hippyer(An actual healing incantation) and it helps with the nagging pain of my spinal injury. While I'd recommend you sit and listen to all their pieces, there's a few that I think really stand out and you should make a reaction. 1. In Maidjan(Live, LIFA castlefest) 2. Krigsgaldr(Live, LIFA castlefest) 3. Svanrand 4. Traust(Highly recommended since you liked the calming nature of Norupo and Awoana 5. Othan(Live, LIFA, castlefest) 6. Tenet 7. Alfadhirhaiti (Live, LIFA, castlefest 8. Fylgija Futhorck( Live, LIFA?(maybe)? You can find all of them on their KZread channel. Live on! If you're curious about the theme of the song... Birthing a child during an eclipse is a special event in Old Norse culture - the child is thought to have a special relationship with animals, assuming their form and giving life to the dead. The drum beating ceremony during the eclipse is a warning to two Nordic wolves that would chase the Sun and moon. If the wolf, Skoll, caught the Sun or if the wolf, Mani, caught the moon during solar or lunar eclipses, it was thought to be a sign that Ragnarok approached (The End Times in a nutshell). The drums served as a means to scare the wolves off and away from ever catching the Sun or moon. The language is proto-Nordic - it's real Old Norse as written in the Poetic Edda and various artifacts found during that era with such writing: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poetic_Edda

I fell in love with this band instantly on my first time listening to them ❤ Their music holds a certain magic to it we all forgot as time went by and we evolved into this fast pace and chaotic world we now live in... When I listen to them, I lean back and close my eyes and its like I'm lying there in the grass like the girl in the video - I can feel the power of nature and the sun above and the ground below me 😌 I also love rain, the sound of it soothes me, and, just like music, brings out raw emotions that I bottled up inside and it helps so much 😖 And sometimes I, too, just go out in the heaviest rain as it even helps me to feel my body again, when I get this numbness inside from my mind shutting down 👍

so difficult to collect my thoughts....I am amazed, frightened, hopeful, feeling mortal, wanting to pray to some deity........I believe these are the emotions Maria and the band hope to elicit from the audience.........I can imagine these are EXACTLY the sounds made by pre-Christian Norse shaman, priests and warriors......I believe the language is a proto-Germanic ( or Scandinavian ) dialect.....note that the ritual takes place under an eclipse in the sky.......I like to think the ending shows Anoana merging with the ox in a perpetuation of nature in the circle of life....they make their costumes and instruments.........

ANOANA means approximately, mother nature or sweet mother nature. The child is born during an eclipse, thus it is endowed by Mother Nature with special abilities. She can mentally see into the future and past, she can also give life back, at least that's what the known traditions say. The end of the video I can also only guess. At the end we see a second eclipse, probably she has to give her gift back to Mother Nature now and the aurochs seems to be her totem.

Aoana means 'Protector'. They are specially chosen guardians of the Viking Celtics. One born like this under this 'Auspice Moon', especially in the manner she was born, makes her a powerful guardian of the wilds, but she had to contend with her rival, womanhood, represented by the Water Buffalo. She was born a type of Seelie Nymph, and her story spans across time, called across the ages by the female singer, and answered in 'Pips', resonations of sound in time and space, calling that very power. I could so a scene by scene breakdown, if you'd like, but look upon it as the birth and life of a Guardian of all that is woman, a Hart, and her trials of nature in becoming a woman. Then you'll really see the strength of this song.
