WLOS-TV 13, Asheville, NC Sign-off and Sign-on from Spring 1988

Ойын-сауық

Combined sign-off and sign-on of Western North Carolina's first TV station and long-time ABC affiliate. Both the sign-off and the sign-on uses the same video montage of NC mountain scenes. The most notable of these, an aerial view of the magnificent Biltmore Estate, is seen at the beginning. Unfortunately, the first few seconds of the SSB video, performed by the Madison County High School Marching Band, is seen here. Watch the sign-off from the same year in my TV Sign-offs playlist.

My late Grandfather, William "Bill" Banner, did the voiceover at the end of this video for the Daily Word. Thanks for sharing this video it is very special to me!

I worked with Bill at WLOS in the mid 80s. Your grandfather was a fantastic guy. I was just out of college and didn't know much and Bill helped me out and taught me what he could. I went on to have a career of 35 years shooting for TV and major corporations.

Later in 1988 or 1989 they would use the same sign-off/sign-on for at least a few more years, but the National Anthem on this clip was replaced by Sandi Patty's Salute the Flag SSB video shot in 1988 (also used on WECT Wilmington, WKCH/WTNZ Knoxville, and three Indianapolis stations - WXIN, WTHR, and WRTV on their analog sign-off), and later on their satellite ABC/sister independent station WAXA/WFBC C40) and a different video with a longer/extended version was used on WGGS 16's sign-off up until they went 24/7 in 1999).

Scary at 1:28! No cross-fade or fade to black, then fade in for the sign-on.
