What is going on with WJLA-TV ABC7? Look at the names they have lost since Sinclair bought the station: Gordon Peterson (retired); Tim Brant and Arch Campbell were let go in 2015. Leon Harris and Maureen Bunyan were let go. Leon is now over at WRC TV NBC4. Maureen Bunyan should have been given a chance to leave on her terms. Jummy Olabanji left for New York and now Chief Meteorologist Doug Hill is retiring in September. I remember when WRC TV NBC 4 was going through this several years ago.

Actually, T.L. Hughes, WJLA's news opens in this video started in 1978!

At 8:14, you see an anchor who is now in Cleveland, OH (Danita Harris) aside one who used to work in Cleveland (Dale Solly).

WJLA refers itself as 7 News

and WJLA-TV I LOVE IT AND WASHINGTON DC :D

Also, Jonathan Elias will take over the 6pm newscast with Maureen Bunyan. He will also do the 10pm news on NC8.

Veteran meteorologist Doug Hill will be retiring after 33 years on the air starting in September. Doug began his career at then WDVM-TV now WUSA-TV, the CBS affiliate for 17 years and then moved over WJLA-TV for another 16 years. The only two veteran meteorologists left will be Sue Palka at WTTG-TV (FOX5) and Topper Shutt at WUSA-TV (CBS 9) WRC-TV's Tom Kierein just retired after 34 years.

@Damien Chance I can remember it was sometime like early spring 2002 on a Saturday it was something related to a cardiac matter or another similar thing, the on-air crew working that Sat. we're beyond deflated and dispirited, I can remember only about a week or so before him doing a live report from outside the then-MCI Center when the U.S. Tour of Paul McCartney reached D.C. (in 2002).

WJLA is gonna have big changes soon. Long time anchor Gordon Peterson is leaving the station around the end of this month or January. I wouldn't be surprised if Maureen Bunyan and Doug Hill step down within a couple of years. If you count their days at Channel 9 (WUSA-TV) Maureen has been on the air over 40 years and Doug over 30 years.

WJLA TV (ABC 7) and it's sister station NewsChannel 8 have gone through some major changes since Sinclair has taken over. New theme and graphics for one. The other are changes in the anchoring teams (especially the morning, noon and weekend teams) Here's the changes: Good Morning Washington's new morning team: Larry Smith and Autria Godfrey. Eileen Whelan moves from the weekend to weekday mornings. Traffic with Jamie Sullivan or Angela Foster. GMW will also simulcast on NC8 from 7am to 10am Same team except with Jacqui Jeras doing weather. Jummy Olabanji and Jacqui Jeras will do the GMA "cut in's" They will also do the noon news. Longtime sports anchor Tim Brant has left WJLA and Robert Burton moves to weeknights. New weekend anchor team: Kellye Lynn; Devon Lucie (weather) and Lou Holder (sports)

NewsChannel 8 became WJLA 24/7 News .bBecause of the amount of contents they were using from them.

WJLA 1988 News Theme is Made By Freddy Pierce Music. Voiceover Dick Ervasti Does WJLA-TV from 1977-1979.

As this is the lowest rated station in DC, anchors rotate frequently. This video does not include openings with Lori Stokes and Mike Hembrick as evening co anchors from 1990 to 1992. Lori Stokes went on to successful stints in New York, with WABC and now WNYW.

Frank Herzog who did weekend sports at WUSA, moved to 7 when Glenn Brenner to over the weeknight sports Anchor duties, and he wouldn't got them there.

Maureen Bunyan is the sexiest woman in Washington.

I still ache, wish, and yearn for this ABC7 to be a real ABC7 that's owned and operated by ABC. Sinclair just can't cut it, they really want NEWSCHANNEL 8 anyway. So good ole Sinclair, pleasure me by selling WJLA to ABC and make it the ABC station it truly deserves with all the amenities that comes with it. And ABC7 will be number one once and for all.

Once upon a time, Channel 7 was WMAL-TV, and owned by ABC. Allbritton bought it in the 70's and changed the calls to the boss' name: Joseph L. Allbritton.

@RJ McAllister Seven (7) was a affiliate for ABC though WMAL- TV was actually owned by the (afternoon newspaper) Evening Star Broadcasting Co., who then sold it to Allbritton, no?

Too bad that you don’t have clips of Lori Stokes anchoring the 6 and 11 in the early 90s before she left for New York. And Renee Poussaint with Susan King before that. As the 3rd place station there is a lot of turnover.
