Without A Home, Living Vanlife | A Shortened Replay
#sleepaid #vanlife
Attention: This is a replay from a much longer day-in-a-life vlog.
For eight years, I have been a nomad living out of a van. A few years back, I lost my home base. And this has been the one struggle that I’ve experienced with vanlife.

My name is Scott and in 2015, I bought a Ram ProMaster City to live in. Even though I didn’t know much about RV’s and campervans, I set about building the van out as a minivan camper. And in April of 2016, I moved into my minivan full time.
Over the years, I’ve learned you don’t need to have a big skill set to build your own campervan. And that living as a minimalist and utilizing solar power can be a less expensive way to live. I’ve also learned that a minivan can be a very comfortable home.
Please follow along as I document my journey.

I did watch this. I watch every new one usu the same day it’s posted.
Scott, you do not have a pea brain You have the most analytic, cohesive thought process. Your a kind, warm, gifted, considerate young man. I think of you as family. No, more like my grandson. Your humble, soft spoken and intelligent. It takes courage to change a hostile work situation, plan a way out and do it with no help from anyone. You created a cozy home and to be stress free is very important. I am no one special but i am so proud of you and the honor of watching your videos. God bless you ❤😊

Well said Susie! 🙂
Your nomadic life is admirable. I worked so hard for years with a lot of nasty dog eat dog people and all of my money went on transportation, parking and gas, car repairs mostly. I retired early because I couldn't find a job closer to home (100) miles a day. Screw those people, it's nice to be away and do whatever I want. Humboldt county is absolutely beautiful! Enjoy your day and coffee. Life is good because you make it that way.
Follow you for a long time now and like your content and your thoughts a lot. You’re a very friendly and humble human being. Stay like that, you can be proud to be a person like this. Love from Germany, Ingo
You’re a great person Scott.😊
Congratulations Scott on 8 years. Got my coffee and sitting back and enjoying your video 😀
You have what a lot of people yearn for Scott, enjoy it and we'll enjoy tuning in to escape. Cheers 🍻
Thanks for being awesome, I really appreciate it. 😎
Such a good reminder to check in with yourself and recognize how places, people, and things make us feel in good ways and bad. Thanks for the replay chat.
Homeboldt does have a special comfortable feeling. I caught that too when I was there. I'm glad you're able to be there in peace. Happy for you!!
It’s so important to feel a connection to a place that feels like home.
The beauty of vanlife choose your neighbours. You become hypersensitivity to vibes! 😊
I believe you've found the secret to a fulfilling life. And that being happy with yourself. As always, Thumbs up!😎👍
Insanity in individuals is rare, in the herd it is the rule. Scott broke free and we should too

I have noticed on other sites, this seems to be a topic of discussion lately. Home base is special. Having a Home base to come back to is very comforting.
THANKYOU SIR
I totally understand you, Scott. Homeless in Arizona, Glendale felt like home. The libraries and McDonald's are familiar streets and you feel comfortable and know the people and places. Two years later, I am in Oakland, not feeling as at home as when I was homeless in Arizona. You make perfect sense describing this. Safe travels to you. Thanks for the video.
Nomad life is the best decision I’ve ever made in retirement. 4 years now & thanks to your inspiration

That’s awesome! I just sold my mobile home & bought van. I’m 3 weeks in now & still figuring things out. My day& I are going to travel together in our vans. Indefinitely. Lol
I love Humboldt!
It was so wonderful to see you happier and enjoying nomad life and to find your new home base. Speaking those desires into reality🙏🏼
Glad you're back in your special place! Enjoy
You look very happy! Terrific!
peaceful easy feeling. gotcha bro-
You are such a sweet soul, Scott 😊.
You have a great system. No property taxes going up 2 1/2x like many seniors are encountering now. Retirement on the road or a working nomad or city dwelling van life may be the best option to keep an ample savings account.
Home is where you apply the parking brake! Thank you for sharing your pea brain ❤️🩹
Northern California is such a great area. Pretty scenery and not the hustle and bustle of the larger cities in southern California and Seattle areas. Enjoy your time in Humboldt area... :)
Home is where you feel the most affection 'from and for' the people around you. It also helps to have the type of weather that you prefer. Redwoods need a lot of moisture therefore that region with all the cloudy days and rain starts to weigh in on my mental health, and so I prefer areas of sunshine but moderate temps. Its a nice place to visit....take care !!
I went through the same thing kinda when I come back to my home base to this day I can’t go near my old home I once owned. But I still smile once I settle down. I worked for the meals on wheels program in the county I lived in and met many great folks during that time period. I still go back and visit some of them. Spread the cheer and pay it forward. Scott you are a good man be gentle with yourself my friend 😊
☕️☕️have a great day ….☕️☕️
Hi Scott, looks like you've found your groove. Glad things are working out better for you.
I retired 2 years ago and find myself going to sleep after midnight also and sleeping until 10 or 11. 👍
I watch all your videos all the way through buddy love your content.
Love this video. So candid.🤗
I know how you feel, as a working carpenter I travel and work within 300 kilometers of my home base which is my storage unit.
Your welcome Scott ! I do enjoy your content
I am also a refugee fm SoCal. Came to Humboldt about 22. yrs ago and love it. It is absolutely my home base as I have a daughter and grandchildren here. I venture out but always come home. Glad you are at home here too.🐢🐩🐶🐕🌊🌺🌻☮️🌙🌈✨
Watched both versions of this video. Really like your long form content as well. Thanks!
Humboldt county is the best. People are very open minded and the best weed around. I've got some land on the Olympic Peninsula near Hoodsport and if you want to stay up there, you're welcome too. Just let me know. I've got a few travel trailers out there, and just need someone to check them for me.
Great Video Scott and very insightful to your challenges with some aspects of vanlife....
As I'm watching this I am having a late light lunch and a glass of wine coffee will be after the wine
Glad you are feeling grounded traveling around Northern California. I wouldn't want to try and sleep in a van when daytime temps are 120 F.
Thanks for the video Scott, goodnight!
I'm so comforted to hear that similar experience. I've been where I've been for two decades now but it's never felt or been my home. Trying desperately to be able to buy a little piece of land in my real home state to end my days after retirement.. God bless you bro
Understand. Continue to enjoy. I enjoyed your video. 💖
I hope it never changes like where I grew up in Santa Cruz

Such a cute video glad Van life made things better for you. Don't drink coffee before bed that's why you don't wake early. lol
Lovely video Scott. You have similar feelings to my own about being grounded but a nomad at the same time. An intriguing internal conflict! I'm based on the Isle of Wight in rainy England. Living in a tiny Citroen C1. This is my home town, where I was conceived... although a nomad I always feel drawn back. I no longer have a house here. But my tiny car is home. You've been such an inspiration over the years. Thanks for your content. I'll join your membership soon (my little side hustles, writing books, YT ad income, etc etc, will start to yield enough to make this lifestyle viable soon I think). Anyway, stay strong buddy. Cornish VD
Scott, Humboldt sounds like a great place to rest your head. I'm one of many who enjoy and look forward to your videos. Not a coffee drinker but a diet Pepsi lover. From Woodinville,WA.
Your geographical location is never your home...your home is where your heart is...
I know what you mean about Humboldt and you touched on it last fall. I very carefully selected Eureka as a final home place. You are welcome to Home Base here too. I welcome you and will not guide you unless requested(not likely). You will share what you want and other wise will not. Enjoy the weather, the coffee, the art, the local produce, the shopping, the people, the sleeping places, and living within the National Park wonderland we call Humboldt.

You've done a pretty good job making home wherever you are. We do have comfort places/zones where we feel our best. When you find that place, Bideawee!
I never used to get up late but since retirement I stay up, like you, until 2 or 3 am and sleep until 9 or 10. I think it started during Michigan winters. Even in the spring and fall, mornings are too cold to be outdoors. So, Sleeping later allows the temperatures to come up before going out.
Glad you're doing well.
Thanks! Home seet home!!!!!

:) KUDOS for sharing and explaining! I GET IT, as sadly lost my home base when I left the country, still miss it some, BUT a GREAT Choice for me to find a better place. Good to know you are better Grounded there. It means much as I have recently learned :) ALL the BEST!
2:02 When u say So Cal, 120 degrees, all I can think of is Palm Springs. I’m from So Cal and I lived in Central Cal. I can only think that it was Palm Springs that gets that hit in CA. Maybe Lancaster or Palmdale?
Enjoy your coffee 🙋🏼♀️
I think it's important to live in a place where you have found a group of great friends. Before I hurt my back I played a lot of tennis and golf and swam at a club almost every day. They are all great ways to meet people. I also lived on a boat several times. If you find the right marina it can be a potentially fun close knit group. I have a feeling the part of your life I see is an aside of your real life with connections everywhere you go. That's based on your comfort casually chatting over a delicious cup of coffee. Thank you for introducing me to a small part of your world.
I THINK YOU HAVE IT MADE....IN THE SHADE!! NICE PEACEFUL LIFE....SLEEP/EAT/HIKE...WHENEVER YOU WANT...WHAT MORE COULD YOU ASK?!?

From the OC and had to get away from the rat race and TV consumerism. In reality, people were never living like this before with phones/computers. It’s nice to be able to travel with less stress and less sickness.
A schedule that avoids traffic rush-hours is probably less noticeable to passersby and local businesses, too.
Haven’t started watching yet but only an 8 min video? Ok, let’s see what this is about.

I feel the same way about Humboldt. I'm heading back that direction in a couple weeks. I too am having trouble waking up and getting moving. I think it's the change in seasons and having to use AC in the Central Valley. I lose all track of time. Time for me to get moving back where AC is not needed.

Love your videos. I was born and raised in Humboldt Co. My family has been there since the 1850s. They came during the gold rush and became dairy farmers. I don't really like the weather there, too foggy. And medical care is not very good. I know your videos are on a delay for privacy of your location, but when you do post a video, would you mind noting when it was filmed so we can get an idea of how the weather was at that time of year in the locations where you travel.

Like what Odin said, "Remember this place.. Home.." Home is not a location. It is where you find yourself happy and contented. One will always wander trying to find a so-called "home" but if one is never contented with what they have, they will wander aimlessly. That "best place", that "home" is everywhere. One does not need to search for it. They just need to be happy and contented.
@StaticCamperVan
Ай бұрын
Good words. But was Odin a real person?
@alkaiserkain
Ай бұрын
@@StaticCamperVan it does not matter. What matters are the words and knowledge that was imparted. Even if the message did not come from him, the important thing to take away is that one must always be contented with what they have. Only then that they would find happiness. This means, one must not find the location where they belong. They need to adapt to it and make it their own.
😮😢👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🥰👍🏻
That's close to Eureka, another nomad KZreadr says it's the hippie capital and they love nomads 🤔
You surprised me there: people are making Southern California crowded and expensive? Hadn’t heard that. Those who live by the sword shall perish by the sword. Back at you with a dry sense of humor. Thanks for the very long video. Cheers. From a full sized nomad in a full sized Promaster.
✨️🙋♀️☕️
Your channel is great and I love how cozily you live in your little van. The one thing that puzzles me, though, is why you don't do a bit to make it more aesthetically comfortable. I don't mean this rudely, it would be a priority for me and obviously isn't for you, but i'd find all that wiring and metal exposed would be a little depressing. Wouldn't be hard to do a bit of work to cover that and it could add to your peace of mind. I think we are all very impacted by our surroundings and in a tiny place you're in so much, seems even more important.
@StaticCamperVan
Ай бұрын
There are two reasons the van is as it is. One is that the wiring is easier to work on keeping it exposed. The other more important reason is that I am outside all day. I care more about my outside environment than what my sleeping quarters looks like. After all, I can’t see any of it when I’m sleeping.
👍😎🇨🇦💫
