What I Do For Work Living Vanlife | Back In My Old Neighborhood

#vanlife #adayinalife
For about four years, I lived and worked in the Seattle area. Except that isn’t the whole story. Today I take you to my old neighborhood and talk about my old job. I also discuss how I support myself living in a van. And we will spend some time in Puyallup and Federal Way while I upgrade my mattress at Fred Meyer and get lunch at Marlene’s Market & Deli.
If you’d like to try my favorite hot sauce, Yellowbird, here’s a Link: www.yellowbirdfoods.com/Stati...
Be sure to use my Coupon Code: “StaticCampervan” for 20% off your order. I will earn a small commission on each sale which is a win for both of us. You can save 20% while also helping me earn a little travel money.

My name is Scott and in 2015, I bought a Ram ProMaster City to live in. Even though I didn’t know much about RV’s and campervans, I set about building the van out as a minivan camper. And in April of 2016, I moved into my minivan full time.
Over the years, I’ve learned you don’t need to have a big skill set to build your own campervan. And that living as a minimalist and utilizing solar power can be a less expensive way to live. I’ve also learned that a minivan can be a very comfortable home.
Please follow along as I document my journey.

I just want you to know I really admire how you live your life. You keep yourself mentally healthy while living in a van. I don't see you experience any depression or anxiety. You deserve a pat on the back. You live by your own rules and are perfectly fine with that.

I have two degrees, but choose to work gig jobs. People judge me and think I’m crazy for doing it, but I don’t care what anyone thinks. I love being able to make my own schedule and take days off whenever I need to. I love the freedom that comes with that. I deal with anxiety and PTSD, so sometimes I need a “mental health break” for a day to two. Not having to ask permission for that or explain my PERSONAL struggles to a boss that doesn’t really give a shit about me…..priceless. I’m hoping to start my vanlife journey relatively soon, and you give me so much inspiration. Thank you for being open and honest with us, and for keeping it REAL. Safe and happy travels, my friend!

So true about job security. I’ve been self-employed for 20 years, ever since my last W-2 job ended, when in 2004 the company owners sold out to a competitor. It was an online retail store, and the entire operation moved from California to Florida. We got three weeks notice-and no severance pay. So I figured, with that kind of security, I may as well just do this on my own. 20 years later, I’m still here, much freer, and happier.

There used to be grass fields with horses and cows for miles between Seattle and Tacoma but now it is packed full of people. I used to work for the State of Washington at public schools and a juvenile prison but my job got dangerous so I retired early. I work online jobs only now.

So I started teaching myself how to code. So that later on I can switch to coding full time and once in a while I might still do a little doordash and Uber eats on the side.

I get so many questions about work. I would so much rather talk about waterfalls and lake camping. Haha

I've come to really enjoy your video's in the last few weeks. I have serious mobility issues and learned of your video's thru my hubby, Bob. I'm pretty much shut-in so your video's give me a delightful time getting out and about vicariously thru your video's. Gives me a time-out from my frequent isolation. :) Sharon, in Yakima.

Scott you keep going to all my places! I was born in Tacoma, raised in Puyallup, lived 30 years in Shelton. I know where the Fred Meyer is, used to be called HiHo in the 60's. I picked raspberries for Pichas as a kid, and blueberries for Fazios. Still have family there. Moving back to Shelton soon from Skagit County up north. A l l those warehouses used to be farmland! Kind of sad.

It's been in the 90's in Wisconsin for several weeks. Especially difficult if it's humid and doesn't cool down at night for sleeping. I drink Gatorade when really hot and humid. It puts electrolytes into your body. It also comes powdered in a can that you can mix in regular water yourself. Plus I drink over a gallon of water a day. I have difficulty with hot weather also. It rained last night and cooled off some for today. When one door closed another opens. Take care of yourself. Thank you for the video. Blessings to you.
