From a purely marketing standpoint, they could've had both a plushy and a couple doll in the form of Starboy and they threw it away.

I deeply love Starboy 😭 In the complete deleted scene when Starboy and Asha escape from Amaya When they fall into the water there is a romantic moment he takes Asha by the hand and they stare at each other and Disney saying that there was no romance as an excuse if their looks say more than everything is very obvious 😭 they robbed us 😞

It definitely feels like a huge disappoinment that they scrapped Starboy since he could of been Disney's very own Nimona (just imagine the huge amount of fanart between Nimona and Starboy?)

That's the thing - it's okay if there are similarities between characters (Starboy, Genie, Nimona...). They're still different characters, and then we can have fun imagining them hanging out. Just look at the fandom-created friendship between Rapunzel and Quasimodo!

They still could have add both Starboy and Star together. Star could be Starboy’s little sidekick/friend. Like the Tinkerbell/Abu to Starboy’s Peter Pan/Aladdin

My hope is that Disney animation will clean house, bring in people who know what they're doing, and release a sequel that fixes all the mistakes and gives us our STAR-BOY! 😍

That would definitely be a great outcome, or for them to remake the film entirely! Either option would work!

Good point about Starboy as the would-be latest addition to the lineup of prince characters!

This was super cute and fun to listen to. Great points made in this discussion!!! Appreciate ppl talking about the dissidence between the creators in Disney's studios and Disney Corp shoving their greedy fingers into everything. AND THEY COULD HAVE STILL GIRL BOSSED ASHA WITH STAR BOY BEING AN UPLIFTING LOVE INTEREST. yeah star dude has a lot of power and magic and the concepts show that he does a lot of the heavy lifting at the start when they first meet. But the portrayal of Asha in the concept art made out a character that was a team player who could also step up to the plate and lead when push came to shove. Magnifico could have come in, guns blazin, sapped poor star boi of his powers and Asha would have to come in and save the day at the last minute and had her moment to shine while still keeping the integrity of the star and wish concept. Making a wish is the first step, it can get u so far, the rest is up to you and what you choose to do, THAT could be the lesson taught, and the romance could have reflected that so wonderfully. It's just too bad rly, seems like they had a beautifully solid idea and were forced to scrap most of it for something cheaper, flimsier and more 'marketable' and it came out broken and soulless.

Heres whats teally making me upset over this. Is that disney makes so many characters that dont make it in the final product. This was a character based on one or 2 pieces of art, and yet fans are just like making a big deal out of this. Im an aniamtor, character didsgner and director. Like this situation is now defining Wish and its getting out of hand. I wish people would just "Let it go" like elsa who was orginally a villain but not and guess what nobody made a big deal out of that. But thats ok, because thats why we make fan art and stories that arent the real thing that already exists

Disney films are for the whole family not just for kids. It honestly couldn’t have been better with starboy also how would his voice sound is my question. 🌸🫂
