Wisconsin's first and only Master Cheese Curd Maker!

Decatur Dairy in Brodhead, WI is home to Wisconsin’s only cheese curd Master Cheesemaker. Steve Stettler is a master cheesemaker in many cheese styles but his most unique is curds. Steve tours Luke through the cheese plant showing him all the different styles of cheese and how they make their cheese curds. Steve also likes to create new and unique styles of cheese such as Colby Swiss and is partnering with Pine River cheese spreads to create a spread from his Colby Swiss making it a true Wisconsin original.

I'm from Indiana and was just there on 3/26/21 and walked out with all kinds of different curds. They have ghost pepper cheese spread and man oh man it was so good and hot. I am so glad that my buddy who lives up there took us to the store the day we got there. If you are anywhere near the shop I would recommend stopping in for sure. I wish I would have gotten a grilled cheese from them, Next time for sure.

After viewing the show last week we drove out to Decatur Dairy today and purchased some great cheeses and enjoyed a grilled cheese sandwich. The grilled cheese pulled apart perfectly melted and creamy. The "special sauce" added a mild tang to the sandwich. Will definitely head back.

Excellent episode! Keep it up. Would be nice if Luke did some of the videos cooking at home with his family like he did last year.

My brother sent me this link. He was a long-time cheesemaker who served with Steve Stettler on the board of directors for the Southwest Wisconsin Cheesemakers Assn for years. Some of my best memories include riding my bike out to the cheese factory where my brother worked and getting to taste hot cheese curds right out of the vat. I'll be ordering cheese from Decatur Cheese from now on. I really appreciate Steve's Master Cheesemaker accreditations and his attention to cleanliness and proper masking (as opposed to the gaiter-wearing host). Dick Ringelstetter says hi, Steve.

I love going to small dairies. Sadly, I'll probably never get into this one. People in Wisconsin have no idea how good they have it. You can find hundreds of small dairies to visit, no 2 the same.

Ripped a branch off that tree by the picnic table one time, turning snowplow truck around and I didn’t realize how high my box was. Oops.

As a host of WI Foodie, please provide a positive example of proper mask wearing. Please stop touching your face, your scarf on your face, and then the cheese and the factory equipment. Thank you to Pine River and Decatur Dairy for providing a good example of proper safety and food hygiene!

Agree. Made me cringe every time he adjusted the gaiter and then touched other stuff. Besides, they've proven that gaiters aren't very effective as masks. Otherwise, nice highlighting of a Wisconsin institution.

Ardea…are you sure your name isn’t Karen?! I watch the show to be educated on food and cool places to check out…I couldn’t care less about mask wearing BS. Get a life and go on about your day…

Ok so the idea to curb the spread of this coronavirus is not to touch your face. Not wear some cheap pos gaiter that you have to pull up multiple times so thanks for making an effort but get a real mask.

Only real mask would be n95. How many of them do you see. All other masks are useless and do more harm then good.
