    At Home Depot (Brand "Klean Strip" ); or Lowes (Brand "Jasco" ), you will find a product called: VM&P Naphtha in the paint section. A 1 quart can is about $9 and it is the ONLY product specified to be used for thinning "Plasti Dip". It is sold in a metal resealable can, so no worries about it drying out. VM&P Naphtha can be used to thin enamels and varnish, plus it will seriously clean oily, waxy surfaces and greasy machine parts - always wear gloves while doing so. *** Lowes & Home Depot sell mini-size "paint cans" with lids. I highly recommend transferring "Plasti Dip" into one of these mini cans and sealing it asap. The plastic lid on the original "Plasti Dip" container will soften and warp IF you ever stir in the VM&P Naphtha to thin the "Plasti Dip". THANKS for all the great tips and hilarious moments !

    I HAVE to get the thinner AND the cans because I use Plastidip rarely. It's JUST when I use aluminum. Which is rarely. 😆 So it dries out. I THOUGHT it was because I left it open but now I truly doubt that.

    Love my nylon tools but don’t have the circle making ones or one sided bail makers. The glue gun top is genius. My plastidip went in the trash dried out ages back and since I do so little wire wrapping I never replaced it. I’m going to try this. The paintbrush tip for applying it is perfect as well. I found the plastidip hard to use exactly because of its thickness. We have a spinner around here somewhere, if I ever get my studio cleaned out I’m hoping to locate her! She was magical I totally agree. I had some life stuff happen and stopped making my jewelry for a couple of years (I have custody of my 4 yo grandson and just never get to the studio) but watching you this week has me ready to get back to it. You’ve re INSPIRED me and I wanted you to know how appreciated that is!

    So it looks like I came across another full-blown crafter! I noticed you have yarn hanging on your wall, so I assume you crochet or knit as well! I've been crocheting for over 35 years, and I got into beadwork jewelry making about 20 years ago. I advanced to bead weaving about 3 years ago, but the one thing I've always wanted to do, was wire wrapping. I tried, once, when I first got into jewelry making but, let's face it, I sucked at it, lol! But I've decided to give it another try, so I've been watching a LOT of tutorials. I already have a set of jewelry making tools, (I started jewelry making with memory wire), but I've just recently made a few more purchases, some that you already mentioned... such as a nylon coated straightener (don't have the curved one yet, working on a shoestring budget) I have the ring mandrel, and even a set of ring sizers. I have some 'practice' wire that a friend gave me. I just ordered a hammer for hammering wire and the mandrel pliers (that's going to make things a lot easier!), and I'm planning on getting an anvil in a week or two. I have beads out the wazoo! I wanted to thank you for your videos on 'Things I wish I knew before...' While some of the things you mentioned I'd already figured out with some of the bead working I've already done, some of them made a light go off in my head! So thank you so much for you videos and tutorials!

    RE: bead spinner -- I make beaded flowers, so I spin my beads directly onto my 24º wire. Curve the end of the wire into a hook-shape and watch the beads roll up the wire. (We're not going to discuss the fact that I didn't know there were special beading needles for this.)

    Love your videos and your "new" ( it's been a year now, so your hair could be a lovely blue-violet by now) look! Thank-you for providing so many hints that allow others a head start on the learning curve of wire beading and wrapping. Have you used 'Zebra' wire? It's a plated copper that I've had good results with in the past (heck, I've had some health issues and am just now re-approaching my extensive jewelry supplies- Zebra wire might not even exist any more!) I too have a bead spinner. Just wanted to let you know there is a magical "sweet spot" for the needle at which point the beads literally fill the needle in seconds, no scooping needed!! Thank-you for your cool, down-to-earth, friendly approach; it's like chatting with a friend. Please keep up the good work- I watch your crochet vids, too💓

    The plastic bead measurement is called a caliper. You place your bead between the 2 triangles & begin to slide the triangle until it sits next to the bead. It should tell you the measurement. As for your rings in #2, I noticed you were kind of struggling when you inserted the heart into the loop. Instead, just open the loop as if it was a jump ring. Not only it's easier to stick the heart in but also the loop retains its shape. I hope it helps.

    I LOVE how you do not care about being 'grammatically perfect' in your videos. You get your information across in a way that literally everyone can understand. And that is what actually matters in informative videos. As a new aspiring jeweler, and having a hard time finding new work during these odd years with that deadly disease roaming the streets and everyone being stuck indoors with little to do. I decided to learn a new tradable skill, and one that I can do via supplies ordered online and done at home, which I can sell online or to friends etc.. Your videos have been a huge help along my jewelry making journey. Alongside learning electronics, this is a perfect fit into my lifestyle and career path which the end goal is to run my own business... I still need to wait for things to go back to normal or at least score a real job to truly reach my goals.. But hey, at least I am not 'just doing nothing' on the productivity side whilst sending out resumes etc.. Using all this downtime to learn new skills and even to find ways to make money is far better than doing nothing and hoping for a call back from some employer or another.. The mind needs to stay busy. Thank you so much for your informative and straight to the point style videos. And I only use aluminum wire, which I can pick up at the local dollar store, for practice weaves, bends, and chains... I have silver and gold for actual sellable products... and I like collecting rocks of various colors and some with quartz crystal which I use my air powered dye grinders and polishing wheels as pendants or pieces for rings.... That is another important part of it.. is the stones... and most are actually free if you know where to look. (Hint: A bit of ink, mica powder, and epoxy goes a long way in increasing their 'value' when it comes to looks and altering the appearance).

  • @JesBewsey

    @JesBewsey

    3 жыл бұрын

    The altering you're talking about doing is shady af &...disrespectful to the craft, tbh, imo. I mean unless you're being extremely upfront about it... though even then, I guess this is a potential sorta purist attitude but the added "value" yr talking about isn't actually value: it's a misleading of perception. It's slight of hand. It's like...idk it's vulgar.

  • @_M_a_r_t_i_n_M

    @_M_a_r_t_i_n_M

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@JesBewsey I hear what you're saying. I wasn't talking passing off simple quartz as something it's not.. Where I live I can find actual emerald, rubies, and even silver or at abandoned mines.. that's what I meant by free if you know where to look. And semi precious stones can be touched up a little, but at the end of the day will never make anyone rich. It is mostly fun playing with their shape and polishing them down. And no, I would never sell off copper filled 50% silver wire as .999 or even sterling. And yes, proper gold IS expensive and doing the soldering for high value pieces takes skill. I'm not talking about making s**t shine and passing it off as what it's not here. And this IS a fun craft in it's own right. Not many people have a lot of money to begin with to spend on much these days. Making more simple pieces for the heck of it or as gifts is fun itself. And having inexpensive but still decent pieces or even just gifts is good too. One good deed can go a long way when people keep paying it forward. So you don't need to worry about me doing what you probably thought I was. And yes, the ink/mica touched up rocks are sold as exactly what they are.. people are only willing to pay for them if they feel it's worth the price. Which is low.. I do have other connections in the jeweler market for pieces that have more of a name than mine to re-sell etc.. It DOES take some time to build up the funds for the amount of metals needed to produce THOSE types of pieces, and skill when one doesn't have the chain wrapping machines.. which is why I stick to mostly silver for that... Gold when I can afford it or just straight up sell the 50% wire as what it is.. or melt down other discarded pieces etc.. I am sorry if I offended.. I understand this channel is mostly for the art side. This is one of those hobbies that branches off into a full on trade in it's own right as well. I hope I cleared up enough for you because I understand exactly what you were thinking there... and just no... These are already hard enough times for people and I just want the entire world to be able to move on. And yes it is relaxing just wrapping wire and doing maille weaves etc for the sheer sake of it.

    Hi I love your down to earth style & how you talk about the mistakes you made, because I think just about the same ones every one else makes too! I went the longest time not knowing that there were different types of wire, such as, hard, dead soft and half-hard! I nearly killed myself attempting to bend the wire into thee shapes I wanted them to be! I also didn’t know that if you kept trying to bend the wire in the same place Over and over, it compacts the molecules & it just keeps making it more & more difficult to bend the way you want,until it kinks a nd breaks! (Just like your memory wire did!) But you can make that work for you as well! Rings are unfortunately easy to bend out of shape so they have a tendency to not last for long.😖 But, if you hammer them after you finish making them! All you need is a flat piece of metal to put under them & then put a towel or old T-shirt under them to keep from damaging your floor or concrete! One thing you must stay away fom though Is to NOT HAMMER ANY WIRES THAT THAT ARE OVERLAPPING, because It can break them! You will discover tht you can get some great effects By doing this & your pieces will also last longer- Especially rings! Give it a try on a scrap of wire & see what it does! God Bless you & your station, Elisabeth Perdue ♥️

    Lol. The little thing that measures your beads/stones is called a pair of calipers. We use a giant version at work to measure the thickness of specific animal body parts for XRAYs.

    Your dark longer hair and subdued eye glasses really enhance your beauty. About your suggestions I'm still at the learning stage and appreciate all the knowledge you have offered though I will be going more so in the direction of wire weaving. That gauge disk is brilliant Thanks. I have large female hands and ordered sight unseen a number of tools I can't use and a couple I can. Who knew that Beadalon makes that mixed bailer with 3.5 inch handles that are fine but a pair of flat nose pliers that would be very bad for my hands at only a 2.5 inch handles. Live and learn.

    Your "dowel" is called a "stepped wring mandrel", i just bought one. ; ) & Your cutters are called "flush cutters" the flat side is to cut a flat end on the wire of your project, so theres no pointy end (from the curved side) to accidentally stab the crap out of you. (dont ask how i know this) ; )

    Hello. Nice vid. Remember... to get a nice cut, use the flat (flush) side of the cutters on the side of wire you're going to use. It will have a better finish. When you grab your roll again you will need to cut off the very tip with the flush side of the cutters and so on... Keep up the good work & interesting, funny vids!!
