My wire wrapping tips and tricks for beginners. These are my tips and tricks of things I wish I knew before I started wire wrapping. Because when I started, I didn't have these tips and bought up the whole craft store. I'm ashamed but not ashamed. I took one for the crafty team to see what I REALLY needed to buy. #WireWrapping #CraftTips #WireJewelry
00:00 Start!
1:00 #10 -Before you start anything, use Plastidip to coat your tool tips so you don’t scratch your projects to bits! This softens the impact of your tools BUT you DO need some uncoated tools for precise work, so don’t coat ALL your tools.
2:50 #9 -What wires and tools do you use? To determine this, you have to first know what type of wire wrapping you want to do.
4:50 #8 -Don’t lose an eye cutting those small pieces of wire. Do it the right way!
5:52 #7 -Use an anvil to give your wire wrapping some spice and personality!
7:20 #6 -Not all beads have to have a hole. I’ll show you how to be able to use a hole-less bead in your wire wrapping.
10:50 #5 -If your bead DOES have a hole, don’t just string the bead on and go on with your life! Spice it up!
13:32 #4 -You can make legit rings using a ring dowel. But I added a modification to mine to make it work.
16:33 #3 -You can actually make post earrings without buying them!
19:53 #2 -You make any shape of anything using wire. ANYTHING!
23:01 #1 -Don’t buy earring wire EVER AGAIN! You can make it yourself easily.

Hey there!! Loved your video 😁👍 I teach beginner jewellery making as well and wanted to pass on a tip: standard ear wires and posts are made with 20Ga (0.8mm) wire. 18Ga (1mm) tends to be too big unless someone is used to wearing piercing studs or the hole is already slightly stretched. Using thinner wire can contribute to a tearing of the hole especially when there is excess weight on the earring or accidentally gets grabbed (think your favorite shirt, scarf or tiny human!) Hope this helps! Keep up the great work!!

@@kerriefearby9542 I do it as a business. If it's a hobby then & you using aluminium then you can follow her suggestion. So I guess its important to note that I dont use aluminum which is an extremely pliable metal & what the author of the vid uses. Therefore the marking would show up VERY easily. For metal work I mainly use cooper wire & sheet metal. Occasionally I use brass for variety. I took jewelry making classes for 8 yrs. I do have one "regular" small pliers that I rarely use but always use jewelry tools. I got my first tools from Contenti which was the basic 4 piece. I since purchased 2 tools each from Beadsmith & Xuron which are both great companies. (I picked them up a Bead/trade shows) I plan to purchase my next set from Lindstrom. I started with cheap hammers from Michaels. My instructor told me invest in Fretz so I have 2 Fretz & 1 Maker hammers & brass 1 lbs & 2 lbs hammers that I got from the JA & MJSA show from the vendor Rio Grande. Got stamp supplies from ImpressArt. Micro tools & Rio Grande are great places to view & do your research but purchase on sale. My disk cutter & dapper I got on sale at Amazon. I started soldering & looking forward to learning more but I started with stringing & beadweaving. If you want to establish selling/business then google the names I mentioned. Hope this helps.

When you've gotten a little budget saved up for tools, the difference between hardware store pliers and cutters vs pro jewelry tools is like the difference between an economy car and a Mercedes. It's amazing how much better they work and how much better they feel like an extension of your hand. Your idea of plastic coating the ends is a great one and if you go with pro tools, you'll see how little they mark metals. If someone ventures into sterling wire (which feels SO good to work with and wear), a tumbler is an awesome tool to smooth any sharp edges your tools might have made. 1 hour in a tumbler with water just about the jewelers shot level and one drop of Dawn with yield shiny and smooth jewelry, which can then be antiqued or kept shiny. Thanks for making this video!

I agree with you about using told made for jewelers. I've only bought a couple so far, but so much better! When first starting I even filed off the teeth of the pliers. Tried taping the ends as some people suggested. Not a good idea. I want to try this dip it stuff, first on my old Lowe's pliers, then I'll see. Another thing the jewelers pliers are ergonomic, so my hands don't get as fatigued. You can buy them online for less than the craft store and they are delivered to your door. Also for cutting chain, I did buy a large pair of Craftsman brand diagonal cutters at Lowes. They cut chain and thick or hard wire effortlessly.

I'm new to beading, wire-wrapping and jewelry making. This video showed my how to do 10 things that I never would have thought of, didn't have loud music or any background noise at all, really, and you explain/demonstrate as you go along. Add your personality and sense of humor, and this video has it all!!

I started watching another "tips and secrets of wire wrapping" video, but clicked on yours because the other one was boring (though not for lack of trying). You have so much personality! And no one--NO ONE--that I've watched has mentioned Plastidip so far, nor have I seen it on any tools they use, but I think that will be amazing for me. I've been scratching and nicking my wires with my tools.

What!? That's crazy. When I was just beginning, that was a huge problem for me. It still is when I get new tools and forget to Plastidip them. So glad you were able to find some tips YOU can use in your wire wrapping adventures! Thank you!!! 🥰

I absolutely love your energy! I was laughing while learning. I'm BRAND new to wire wrapping. I make all kinds of creations with resin. I want to incorporate wire in my art so I'm making sun catchers. Now that I know I can make my own earrings with wire, I'm definitely doing that for my next creation. I appreciate you and the knowledge you shared, Thank you.

This is such a great video, I learned so much and had so much fun watching it. On a side note, I just wanted to say that some people get allergic reaction to all earring hooks that are not made of silver or gold (least reactive metals used in jewelry making), so before you all start making those from wires check if this is not the case with you (in most cases it will be fine)

I came across your video by chance. I've dabbled with wire wrapping for a few years but would get frustrated most of the time. I saw this and had some time, so I watched it. You had my attention, laughter, and interest in your personality from the start. I love your humor. I even showed the "Butts" part of the video to my husband and he even thought it was funny. I think one of my favorite parts of the video is the honesty about the pencil erasers. That really made me laugh because I have done that before and I believe in improvisation. You nailed it with this video!! Thank you for being you!!

Luv your tips, coating pliers in Plasti-Dip👍 and your humor!😂 I'm new to jewelry making and just learned 2 sets of pliers are needed-1 to shape the wire and 1 to hold the other end during manipulation. Hardware store NEEDLE-NOSE pliers will work fine but they have serrated edges and leave marks. FLAT-JAWED CHAIN-NOSE pliers have flat surfaces designed for gripping wire/ jewelry wire WITHOUT LEAVING MARKS OR RIDGES. Chain-Nose pliers also have shorter jaws than Needle-nose pliers making them easier to work with. Chain-Nose pliers can also be used for opening and closing jump rings, as they taper towards the tip and can be easily manipulated into small spaces. FLAT-NOSE pliers have non-tapered tips and a wide surface area making it easier to grip jewelry wire. So, 1 pair of Chain-Nose and 1 pair of Flat-Nose pliers would work very well or 2 sets of Flat-Nose pliers. Happy Jewelry making : )
