This video shows a Step by Step Tutorial on Which Caster and Wheel Type is needed to convert your Wire Rack or Wire Shelving into a mobile unit. We show a 3/8" Threaded Stem Caster and how to install them in a Metro Wire Rack as well as a 0.846" Grip Ring Stem Caster and how to install this into a Wire Rack / Wire Shelving as well. The installation is fairly easy as long as you have the right casters for the job. Both of the links to the Casters shown in the video are posted below if you would like to order them for your next project. CasterHQ has the highest quality Steel Shelving and Steel Rack Casters in the industry with the fastest shipping and lowest prices around.
Caster Headquarters Wire Shelving Casters are a universal O.E. Replacement Shelving Caster that fits into most Wire Shelving Units and most Metal Wire Shelving Racks tubing. Our Wire Shelving Wheels are a high-quality chemical resistant non-marking polyurethane tread on a polyolefin core. To install on these casters on metal shelving simply pop out the plastic insert that is located in the bottom of your shelving legs with a flat head or needle nose pliers and insert these shelving casters by pushing the stem with some force until the wire shelving legs sit flush onto the casters raceway.
If you are looking for wire rack wheels only we carry those replacements as well. You can upgrade your static wire racks with our high-quality casters or replace your old Wire Shelving Casters with a high-quality Replacement from Caster Headquarters. CasterHQ's wire shelving casters come with the highest quality polyurethane wheels on the market. Benefits of polyurethane material offer high resistance to grease, oils, and acids up to 12% acidity, excellent roll-ability and ergonomics, great floor protection, drastic reduction in noise levels when rolling your wire racks or steel shelving.

Get some channel locks and twist to break the seal and then they should hammer out with a flat head screwdriver around the circumference. Or you could thread a foot or bolt into it and hammer that outwards

Some of the manufacturer's vids show that you install them diagonally to each other, ex. one locking wheel on the "front" left, and the other on the "back" right of the shelving.

Specifically for hydroponics/microgreens growers... Any idea what average weight loads usually are encountered for 4-5 shelf (24"x36"x72") units fully loaded (using NFT or ebb and flow automated watering)?

Can you reuse the grip ring stem castors?, I didn’t notice my shelving came with two castor with brakes and two without brakes. So I need to change their position. But I need to remove them without damaging them first.

Yea putting the big castors in on the top, not working for me. Gotta take off the feet, that seems to be an issue for me right now. Next thing I'm trying is spraying master blaster on it and try to unscrew it (at least on another site it said they can be unscrewed) so I take off the screw foot and put some needle nose plyers in it.

Yes, most of these wire shelving come with levelers instead of casters, if this is the case, just remove the levelers first by unscrewing then screw in the casters.

Menards sells casters too, but your prices look better for online sales. However, their 3" has 120 lbs capacity, which is 480 lbs per rack; & their 4-inch is 150 lbs, which is 600 lbs/rack. Do you sell any 3/8 threaded that are 120 or higher? 135 - 220 lbs 3 5/8 inch 3/8 threaded would be great. (ideally a wheel, the exact height of a 2x4) Also, does anyone make a 3- 4 inch ball wheel?

  • @CasterHQ

When you say aren't the screw in type, are you referring to the grip ring stem version? If that is the case you will simply need to pry them out with a flat head screw driver.

I had originally given this video a “Like,” for showing how to install the light-duty casters, but had to remove the “Like,” and give a “DISLIKE,” for the video not showing how truly difficult it can be to install the heavy-duty casters. Spring steel spring wants to spring back into its original shape. I am thinking that there is a way to rig a jig, to facilitate keeping everything aligned, while tapping with a mallet, while working alone. (With a helper present, I am thinking that one can hold everything in alignment, while the other uses the mallet.) I would like to see installation of the heavier-duty casters done, for real, through the entire process, rather just pantomimed, with a cursory explanation..

Does not show how to flip the shelves, does not show actually installing the heavy duty wheels.... you can't strike in a straight line as the wheels are off center, and how are you supposed to hold the friction rings with pliers while accomplishing this miracle. Now, I figured it out, but that's not the point of a You-tube tutorial. Show, don't tell.
