Wipeout Omega Collection Ship Sounds
Ойындар
Here's a comparison of all unique sounds of each ship (apart from the Zone ship).
Hope you all enjoy this.
I know I'm not the best at this, as I do have a few derp moments (especially on Chengou Project...I hate Chengou Project).

I wonder if inspiratrion for the pod racing in Star Wars came from Wipeout? ;)

When did this game come out? xD
Here's what cars these engines remind me of: Feisar: a newer BMW or Audi V8, or a Lambo V10. Qirex: a touring- or rally-car turbo I4. Piranha: a Ferrari V12, at redline AG Systems: a Japanese hot-hatchback I4-- think Civic Type R Triakis: a high-revving race diesel, like the Audi LMP engines Goteki 45: a Subaru STi flat-four EG.X: a Porsche 911 flat-six. Particularly an older, air-cooled one Assegai: an older Le Mans Prototype V8 Mirage: a modern Chevy LS/LT-series pushrod V8 Harimau: a British straight-six-- Jaguar, maybe Auricom: a NASCAR stock-car V8 Icaras: an Aston or BMW V12 Tigron: a Suzuki Hayabusa superbike I4, or maybe a riced-out BMW I6 Van-Über: a German turbo V6, maybe a V8. Mercedes?
I like how Trikaris sounds like an owl when at top speed. 😂
The Feisar sounds the best with that high pitched scream coming from the engine.

AURICOM ye
All Ships Timestamps: FEISAR: 0:12 Qirex: 2:37 Piranha: 5:03 AG Systems: 7:32 Triakis: 10:24 Goteki 45: 12:43 EG-X: 15:30 Assegai: 18:00 Mirage: 20:44 Harimau: 23:30 Auricom: 26:41 Icuras: 29:22 Tigron: 31:53 Van Über: 34:39
I really like Feisar's I also love the high pitch sound effect each ship makes when they do a trick spin
Just wanted to say thanks for this, it's been an incredible reference to share with fellow sound designers. I appreciate the time and effort you invested in putting this up :)
FEISAR with high rev sounds badass, like a lower-pitched F1 engine... Even if I only have 2048 on a 7 yr old PSVita I still love how awesome Feisar sounds...
I absolutely adore how brutal Qirex', Tigron's and Icaras' engine sounds are. Auricom's and maybe EG-X' sounds are the ones I like the least. Still great, but they just don't have that same amount of kick-ass to them.

yeah and harimaus just nothing lol. Makes sense tho if u look at the lore.
The thing I don't like about the engine sound in Omega Collection is the stuttering part of engine sounds too quiet when the ship is in inertia (when it's not accelerating or decelerating). What I like about the stuttering part of engine is, as it uses tremolo effect, when the ship accelerates the tremolo is faster and when the ship decelerates the tremolo is slower. This sound more natural and dynamic than Wipeout 2048 Vita engine sound (which sounds like it's faked, the pitch still rises even if the ship is already in inertia). P.S. I don't own PS4 and Wipeout Omega Collection and I watch Wipeout gameplays in KZread most of the time.
Commenting again just to say that I know you say that you've had some "derp moments" throughout recording this, but said "derp moments" actually manages to demonstrate the range of the engine sounds, from deep to high, so that's not at all bad :D

I second this! Was thinking this myself
I cannot find back the video that was detailling the sound design of the ships for Omega. It is a combination of many sources, including planes and space rockets launches.
This is how they sounded like to me- Quirex- Scania Truck in full speed Harimau- Hellcat Auricom- Sports car Icaras- Sports car Tigron- Italdesign Scighera Van Uber- Koenigesgg Agera Feisar- F1 cars Piranha- Couldn't identify Auricom- Lamborghini sentenario Triakis- Couldn't identify Goteki 45- Couldn't identify EG-X- Sports car Assegai- Electric car Mirage- Modified Nissan Skyline GTR Overall, they sound too good that I feel them even when I'm not watching the video. Takes my breath away. xxxx

The Triakis sounds like it has a high-revving BMW V8 on Venom class while Goteki sounds like the typical F1 V6 turbo engine.

What about AG Systems
The EG-X sounds like it has a V8 while my team’s ship sounds like it has a Dodge Viper’s V10, albeit at a higher RPM. Yet all ships are turbine-powered somehow...

GBalao888 The power of the 4-stage divergent turbine compels you. Edit: In the intro to WipEout Pure it is referred to as the 4-Stage Divergent Turbine.
Feisar Sound all the way 😍
Soundwise they're all very cool and unique, can't decide. ^^ My personal favourite ship is Assegai though.

Assegai FTW
Whilst I'll complement Omega for even bothering to have alternate sounds, it's *underwhelming compared to the original 2048. I didn't even realize there were different engine frequencies before this video; in 2048 there was an immediate difference and it really helped characterize the teams.

Why do they sound like they're constantly changing gear, though...? That's the thing I dislike about 2048's engine sound design because it does that... constantly... without going any faster than it's supposed to.
@bluesrike

@@FieraDevilWings I think it's a lore thing, since 2048 is the first game chronologically. I'm guessing that AG tech at the time, though feasible, was still using some sort of transmission like system to propel the ships forward, hence why they sound like they're changing gears

Disappointed a little that the 2048 ships in Omega have the same "type" of sound as HD/Fury ships. In the Vita version they have a unique engine to the whole series and each team has its own boost sounds. At least they kept the team specific weapon announcer.

The Aurum Moon, TouyaShiro Thematic choice I think, they wanted to show AG racing in its early F1 racing days.
I was dearly hoping someone had made this video! Thank you!! I would have loved to hear the Phantom takeoffs as well but that's just me. I have been missing this game for a while and missed these engine sounds in particular😂
Piranha is pretty damn quiet when not hitting pads

I mean it's cool and all, but I still think the neutral and pure turbine sound from HD is most fitting

Feisar ftw
While I have the game now and could check it myself, I have always wondered if the engine sounds in the Fury and 2048 ships were consistent with their HD counterparts in Omega Collection, as it seems like that was the case. If so, especially for the 2048 to HD Fury ships, that's pretty clever. Edit: It is indeed, at lower frequencies for 2048's ships presumably due to the scale of speed being lower overall.
All the ships have different colors, different shapes and different company but the AI assistant is still there the same woman's voice

@@MatthewBester I'd argue it's a standardized AI used between all teams in the future (maybe a direct link to the governing body of the AG racing league) compared to the bespoke AIs of the 2048 teams, where there wasn't as much oversight from the AG racing commission. After all, every team uses the same ship for Zone training in the future, just with slightly different weight profiles, so it's not a stretch to me that they'd share the same AI.
I don’t know why EG-Xs sound is like AURICOMs one

@@KellerJay I think the ship size, ship's distance from the ground, fov, track size, and track details size contribute to the low sense of speed in wipeout. I also see some kind of speed to size ratio in sense of speed. The larger the vehicle, track and track details, the slower it looks. Small vehicles like motorcycle at 300 kp/h looks faster than big vehicles like wipeout ship at 300kp/h. Wipeout sometimes fails to properly communicate the size of these ships and tracks compare to the human height. They don't show human to ship comparison inside the game.
Wow quirex sounds amazing
