Very nice video. Thanks! I've been using the same reel for 13 years, it works with 0 friction and the drag is super precise. Good thing as well is that even wet and at low temperature it will work equally well.

Method is called link ledgering _ very effective as it causes less disturbance than a running ledger as the weight is spread across a number of shot rather than a single lead 😉

Chub being sensitive biters is a bit of a myth imo. I use a link method like Martin, but fish a tight line, and don't even use a tip. I use a soft float rod. This method, big baits, big hooks and a stiff hooklength, acts as a bolt rig, and has accounted for dozens of 5lb+ chub. Every bite a pull-round. Martins method is 50% good angling, 50% tradition.

I am not, bringing Martin down at all. But, he is a high profile angler, who has access to many private fisheries that are not open to all and sundry. I bet this venue is one of those mentioned. These anglers get many priviledges that mortal anglers, do not get to fish.

Why backwind when you just praised the "incredibly smooth clutch" on your reel? ;-)

I have to say. You are spot on. Since i have had a decent clutch system. I have never back winded once.

I hair rig a bit of cork, and mould the cheese paste around that. has caught a few chub for me.

@@wonkylommiter6364 Saw something about balancing the paste itself with popup mix, so it naturally wafts about without anything else on the hook
