When I was in America, they know about Captain James Cook and they were amazed when I told them that Captain Cook discovered and mapped New Zealand. James Cook will be remembered until the end of time, WHO will remember Rawiri Waititi? He will be forgotten 5 minutes after he gets kicked out of Parliament!

If Maori can't demonstrate they are in their position in Parliament to serve every citizen of New Zealand then they shouldn't be there. Not one of us Maori were alive during the Treaty, they can spout whatever nonsense they want to Believe the truth being our ancestors signed it and we are better off for it. Not one of those Maori politicians would be able to survive in the wildness of New Zealand like that of our ancestors. They (unlike the majority of NZ) get the most comfortable salary, and do what with their privilege? Spread hatred. What use has it been to do this? We are going backwards.

@@jamescorry63 No bro, if I heard a Pakeha MP speaking divisive words on our national day, or any day for that matter I'd get right into them too. If NZ manages to escape the clutches of the huge global corporations and corrupt govt officials that already have their tentacles on us, it will be I believe largely due to the influence of Maori, for their greater affiliation to the land than the average Pakeha is the way I see, & hope the guiding hand to be. And I, like most Kiwis, will be in support of this. It's the way Waititi's going about it that's wrong, he should understand his positional influence better and use it for the better. Yes there have been many wrongdoings since the Treaty and we have to get our skeletions out of the closet, so to speak. But we need an end point which will ultimately leave unhappy party's on both sides, and that has to be the point we all become 'one side'. All together we will have something very special in this country, we each have much to learn off each other. Chur

What an insult to Captain Cook. It was on his second voyage, when the 'Adventure' (the ship that accompanied the 'Resolution') got into strife with the Māori. Māori had stolen food from the ship and had a fight with the crew, the crew were beaten and eaten. When Cook heard of this he declined to punish the perpetrators and the Māori tribe that had brought the murderers before him could not understand why he would not kill them, and were surprised when he set them free. How many Māori tribes would have done that !! We seem to be forgetting a lot of the good that Captain Cook did and trying to put him in a bad light, to put it mildly.

The likes of Hika and nephew Hone Heke were not happy as part of the treaty stated that all New Zealanders - Maori and European alike were to be equal... both Hika and Heke felt they should be superior to other tribes and objected to being thought equal! At no time in our early history did the European commit genocide of Maori... that was all down to Maori who committed genocide on a very big scale prior to the treaty being signed.

Waititi sounds like he would like to regress to the days when the Maori were constantly feuding between tribes, slaughtering many, cannabalising some, raping others and enslaving many. Utu always came at a terrible cost. And the musket wars took the slaughter to a whole new level. Those days there were no democratic rights, no freedom of speech, freedom of democracy or religion. And certainly no right to be a member of parliament in a true democratic society. And this is the big difference between communism and freedom.

Forward Thinker put Ardern into power resulting in the most deceitful Govt in NZ history. The guy's been hobby-horsing NZ politics right under our noses for as long as I can remember. He is the phantom in the house with the laughter to back it up.

Since he's allegedly oppressed because of race his anti white narrative is deemed as the correct narrative. But he can freely say what he likes

history shows that the leaders of the polynesian community at the time were very embarassed by his death, this was not an action of an individual. He was also very famous for his treatment of his crew, using reason and motivation instead of the whip, a kind man well worthy of his universal admiration

Dear me this is way way from a way in this day and age to forge strong ties with in our country we do not need this sort thing being put out there very very disappointed with this young man. Thought he had a much more intelligent view of the need for building bridges not rip them out.
