Winston is a well proven intelligent, honest human being of part Maori background.. Rawiri is the absolute complete opposite except for being a Maori person, how on earth can this person be in charge of Anything where even an intelligent coherent answer or comment from this guy is SO STONE AGE..

I never knew Captain Cook myself, for obvious reasons ; after all, one can only give a comment on what one has read, which is only someone else's version of the truth... comments on what he did, and where he went, is just that... Anyway, it's not the colour of our skin, that makes us who we are; it's our, attitude...

What an insult to Captain Cook. It was on his second voyage, when the 'Adventure' (the ship that accompanied the 'Resolution') got into strife with the Māori. Māori had stolen food from the ship and had a fight with the crew, the crew were beaten and eaten. When Cook heard of this he declined to punish the perpetrators and the Māori tribe that had brought the murderers before him could not understand why he would not kill them, and were surprised when he set them free. How many Māori tribes would have done that !! We seem to be forgetting a lot of the good that Captain Cook did and trying to put him in a bad light, to put it mildly.

Who would they rather have discovering NZ? French, Belgian? Japanese, China?

Agree with you Winston...Hongi Hika started the musket wars 1820...these raged 20+ years.... in 1835 genocide of the Moriori by Maori and by this time 1/3 of the Maori population had been wiped out....when the treaty was struck in 1840 the tribes were beaten down and in bad condition and the majority of chiefs saw signing the treaty would give them protection by the crown against further utu, slavery, tribal land grabs through utu, and it put an end also to cannibalism.. these enlightened Chiefs jumped at the chance of signing the treaty as it meant survival for their people. The likes of Hika and nephew Hone Heke were not happy as part of the treaty stated that all New Zealanders - Maori and European alike were to be equal... both Hika and Heke felt they should be superior to other tribes and objected to being thought equal! At no time in our early history did the European commit genocide of Maori... that was all down to Maori who committed genocide on a very big scale prior to the treaty being signed.

Well let's pull out all European and Asian infrastructure and technology in New Zealand And let these people start of a fresh that would be fair .

I hope Winston comes back. The country needs him - he has the leadership credentials and he loves his country.

Waititi most unfortunately is an example of a primitive stone age native who has not advanced from that state, unlike so many amazing and world -level other Maori people who reflect the incredible abilities and intellect that Maori generally have.

Waititi sounds like he would like to regress to the days when the Maori were constantly feuding between tribes, slaughtering many, cannabalising some, raping others and enslaving many. Utu always came at a terrible cost. And the musket wars took the slaughter to a whole new level. Those days there were no democratic rights, no freedom of speech, freedom of democracy or religion. And certainly no right to be a member of parliament in a true democratic society. And this is the big difference between communism and freedom.

I didn't know that Captain Cook was killed for doing that until I first heard about it at the Bishops museum in Hawaii. Sure we all learnt that he died on February 14 1779 but not about why.
