Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey - Review!
Ойын-сауық
Everyone's favorite honey-loving bear is the star of a new slasher film, but the real horror is the movie itself.

Dan's face really says "Oh, Bother"
A Dan rant is always a pleasure AND educational!
"The person I'm angriest at, is me" is so damn funny, especially with the level of anger he said it with. Hilariously perfect review all around
Ah...miss these Dan Rants. Been some time. LOL. Thanks Dan for enduring this self-inflicted pain. 😂👌🏽
This is exactly what I expected this movie to be. A run of the mill slasher flick where the novelty runs out as quickly as the movie starts.
Hi there! I live in Mexico and saw this movie a couple of weeks ago. I convinced my wife to watch this based upon the idea that we were probably going to watch one of those “so bad it’s funny” movies. I was sorely mistaken. I don’t mind if a movie is “bad” but gives you a memorable experience. Unfortunately this movie’s crime is that is just plain boring, badly paced and doesn’t even have the courtesy to try new things; just leans on the ip recognition to get butts in the seats. I share your pain man. It’s one of the few movies I’ve seen in theaters I wish I hadn’t.
Dan should've said "I'm coming in sweet'. 🐻🍯🐝
Given everything you just said, it'd be great if you created a section to discuss underrated and/or unnoticed horror films. You could even use Shudder as a starting point, and I'm sure it'd be a hit. Just look at everything that happened with David Prior after Chris Stuckmann reviewed and recommended The Empty Man. I'm sure you can have an impact as well. Anyway, kudos for going through that film on n out behalf!
Your face in the thumbnail says it all 😂
Ahhhh a Dan rant, how I’ve missed them.
I am literally not surprised in the slightest. The trailer looked like exactly what you described here.
“ …unfortunately [it] suuuuuuucks” made me literally laugh out loud. Thank you for that. 😂
Pooh couldn’t even get trapped in a hole, trying to get honey?!? Maybe Disney owns that Pooh trope.

That's right out of one of the books, but if it's the second book, then it's not up for grabs yet. That's why there's no Tigger in this movie.
Agree 100%. The movie studio really didn't appreciate my review and statements that echoed everything you said and tried sending the indie horror community after me. lol

I was just about to post a comment on your channel that you should give Dan's review a watch. You both hit the nail on the head. While each of your rants were slightly divergent from each other, they were still parallel thoughts. And no self respecting horror, or even general movie fan should take their side if thats how they try to paint it. Nice to see you both draw a line in the sand when it comes to lazy bullshit like this.

That ain't right man and I love your review. You and Dan were spot on I couldn't agree more and I too hated the movie.
Cats: “You’ll never see another movie like this.” WtP: BaH: “This movie sucks.” Ouch.
The original Winnie the Pooh film is my favorite Disney animated film. I’ll gladly watch that over this nightmare that makes heffalumps and woozles look pleasant by comparison!
I saw this as well. If this isn't the worst movie of the year, then we are in huge trouble.
I'm very familiar with this British production company. It isn't the first time they have made low budget features based on Public domain properties. Jack & Jill, Humpty Dumpty & Amityville to name but a few. Under $100,000 ? Try more like $10,000 . I actually think the re shoots made it worse ( The Christopher Robin stuff at the beginning) as it made it disjointed and pretty much zero characterisation for anyone in the movie. It went from being a bargain basement slasher quickie, to a confused bargain basement quickie

Considering they don't have food or water on set, I'm not surprised by the fact that this is incredibly bad.
From the moment they announced this, I knew it could only be trash. Sacrificing everything to be the first post-disney Pooh movie is an awful way to make movies. There's not a chance I'll ever see this, but it does feel vindicating knowing I was right. Thanks Dan!
To your general point about the film: the producer on this does around 50 films a year between his three production companies. No, this is not a typo. They lie to crew, don't have food or water on set, and everything is normally shot with two cameras, no proper lighting or lighting crew on set. I don't know how they do editing, but the sound design and mix are normally done between 7 to 10 days. So yeah, there is no time or will to make anything that they do seem reasonable, let alone good. And oh, those numbers of horror films on Shudder, Tubi, or Amazon? A lot of them are from them. The important part is, if you see something that looks like a shittier Asylum film coming from the UK? Run!
Oof! I was wondering if this was gonna be as bad as it looked. Thank you for giving me a classic Dan rant. Starting my week off nicely.
Thanks for taking the bullet for us, Dan! I don't know if you've seen Skinamarink yet but it might be okay that you missed it in theater as this may be a rare example where that is but the best viewing experience. The optimal viewing experience (if you can swing it) would be on an unmarked VHS tape that was passed to you by a friend who thought it was scary, who got it from their friend, whose mom/spouse won't let them keep it in it house, and they got it from a friend who found it in a box of VHS tapes in the woods. If you can't do it that way, then streaming it in a dark room with the volume turned high is also acceptable.
So I presume in a year or two, once Steamboat Willie is public domain, we'll be seeing "The Mickey Murders" at the Oscars?
@kstepko

@Koooo4

@@kstepko That's not how it works. Steamboat Willie will enter the public domain because it will turn 95 years, same as what happened to Winnie The Pooh. However it's only that very particular version that enter the public domain, not Mickey in general as a character. And it's made even more complicated because Mickey is obviously also a strong trademark.

I imagine Disney's lobbyists are going to have a busy year this year.
This reminds me of Siskel & Ebert's "Sneak Previews" in the '70s. They had to go out of their way to find their "Dog of the Week." I think this is your version of that almost 50 years later.
Loving your background arrangement today, I'll be watching Lawrence of Arabia for the first time this weekend, I'm trying to watch more classic films 🎬
I went in with EXTREMELY LOW expectations. It was better than 'The Mean One' in a lot of ways (that film really sucked). I was just happy to see some practical effects and the fact they shot in the UK. However, yeah... this director is not the next Sam Raimi or Peter Jackson. edit: Just watched Brad Jones review (he has seen a lot more of the director's other work), this was actually good compared his earlier efforts by comparison. So yeah, there is waaay worse out there.
Love your reviews Dan, ty
"Don't mince words, Bones. Tell us what you really think."
Dan, this is probably one of your best monologues after reviewing a movie! 💯 great job, and we know you’re not angry you just feel that other independent horror filmmakers should get the opportunity to make something special but because they don’t have an IP it won’t be seen. Kudos to you brother! Keep fighting the good fight for horror! ❤
Thank you. I enjoyed your rant so much and I didn't even watch this movie, but maybe the only reason why this monstrocity was born is that it could bring this review to life along side with it, so it was worth to be made definitely. 😂
I want more savage Dan!! I was expecting this review to not be favorable, but I wasn’t expecting Dan to let the tiger out of the cage, lol
Throwin haymakers today, Dan. Lovin' it.
Thank you for taking one for the team
mildly unhinged Dan is my favorite
It's kind of interesting how this came about. It sort of reminds me of 'Pinocchio' from Netflix. Disney's take on the character is more popular (and owned by Disney), but other studios might have a different take on it. DreamWorks did funny things with a lot of fair use IP with the Shrek franchise. On the other hand, I definitely remember a lot of subpar direct-to-DVD, non-Disney iterations of these characters. Hell, I remember there was a 'Beauty and the Beast' TV show starring Linda Hamilton back in the day. What a time to be alive! 😁

@@shockmesane4158 I didn't know that, but quick story: I was walking through an anime convention and I saw this old dude with beard standing by himself with a book in his hands. He looked lonely and I felt friendly, so approached him and said, "How you doing?" He replied with a very dour, "I'm fine". Since he had a book in his hand, I said, "Whatcha reading?" He didn't really answer me. He just showed me the cover. It was a 'Game of Thrones' book, so I said, "Oh. I heard those are good books. How is it?" The old stranger then said the 6 words that are normally reserved for celebs trying to get out of a DUI: "Do you know who I am?" I studied his face, decided I did not recognize him, and replied, "Nope. Who are you?" Again, he didn't answer. He just opened the book to the inside of the book jacket where a little black and white photo showed an old dude with a beard. That meant nothing to me, so I said, "Who's that?" Then the stranger said, with the same pompous attitude, "It's me." I basically walked away after that. It was really him, but to be honest, I was so put off by that encounter, I haven't even bothered to watch GOT 🤷🏾♂️

@@rodneycooperjr3223 Sorry to hear that, I've never met him but only heard nice things. Hopefully it was just a bad day, or maybe he's just an egomaniac, or maybe you were the first person to not approach him wanting something from at a convention in actual ages and his surprise was legit and not ego driven. Who can say, not me! He is SUPER recognizable I think we can agree, the man looks like they mixed a cask of wine with a retired pirate captain with a nerd. 🤣
I would honestly love to hear Dan breaking down this movie's earnings against its small budget compared and also a comparison to an indie horror movie of same budget size.
Dan, taking the cinematic bullet for us !
Wait, there’s good to come out of this. Are you going to review Skinamarink?!!?
A really good horror-comedy from last year is this Australian movie called “Sissy.” I believe it’s on Shudder too, and I reckon Dan might enjoy it.
Felt the same about this movie. They got me with the gimmick. The part that angered me the most is they set up a subplot where the “final “ girl had a creep sneak into her house. But it only leads to a scene where she is freaking out in a situation even the most well adjusted person would freak out . Also why would you get back in the freaking hot tub. There are stupid horror movie decisions and then there is getting back on the hot tub level decisions.
There should be another crew that give a shot as THE winnie the pooh (public domain) film then another crew try to beat it and so on! Just for the meme of course.
For the record I saw Skinamarink and Pooh, and Pooh was easily the better picture for my taste. Skinamarink was a 90 minute slideshow of images with annoying jumpscare music occasionally.
😅 funny that you said that about Skinamarink cause I went to watch that and literally left regretting buying a ticket for it
Thanks for your review Dan. Like yourself the gimmick totally worked on me as well so don't feel bad brother. But thanks to your review I know it's just a gimmick now and can avoid it for myself. Thanks for taking the bullet dude ✌🏻❤✊🏼
great rant (i mean this isn't a movie i would normally watch i was just in a good mood so i decided to give it a shot yesterday)
It's popular in Mexico I only saw 2nd half because I was late. Well I did had fun but yeah it didn't have like a signature style besides The Bees.
Now I await Dan's video on 10 horror movies that are 10x better than this with the same budget
@DanMurrell , I do recommend Terrifier 2. The first one, not so much.
Been waiting for this one
Great review! 😁
Dan, have you reviewed Athena (Netflix) already?
PRAYING BATMAN DOESN’T BECOME PUBLIC DOMAIN LOL🤣🤷🏽♂️‼️
I might be over thinking this, but if the P in IP stands for property, that suggests that its owned. Would that not mean that, once it goes into the free to us public domain, it stops being IP, because its no longer owned?
Thanks for the warning. I’ll admit; the premise had piqued. I only would’ve gone to see it if I’d gone with a friend. I’d hate to ruin their day as well.

I still wanna watch it but it’s not showing around me 😢
Dan, have you heard about the Grinch horror movie? If so , will you see and review that too ?
Thank you for your service.
You can’t use Disney’s Winnie the Pooh to make your own movie because that’s a separate copyright from the original book. So if someone else wanted to make a Winnie the Pooh horror. Would they be blocked because of this movie?
@DanMurrellMovies

No - as long as they didn't use the same versions of the characters from this movie (this film's original characters or specifically recognizable depictions of the Pooh characters as written in this movie), or designs of the characters in this movie, anyone can make any kind of Winnie the Pooh movie they want at this point.

@@DanMurrellMovies thanks. A little surprised everyone isn’t jumping on the Winnie the Pooh horror bandwagon.
Now this studio will make the evil Peter Pan movie. lol
Everything you said is how I felt about Skinamarink. But I am glad I didn’t see that in the theater
I still want to see it. Even if I think it sucks it'll likely setup to a better sequel.
The "Snakes On A Plane" marketing technique has a lot of flaws, but it isn't ineffective.
*Oh bother*
I mean, I can't disagree with anything you said, but I actually had a fun time with it.🤷😅 Also, I did also pay to see Skinamrink in theaters as well if that at all helps.
Hi
I really want a dark movie of Peter Pan. The classic was pretty dark so imagine it being darker.
My market has ZERO showings.
This happened last year with "The Mean One", a movie about the Grinch that was just terrible all around. Bad writing, bad acting, bad effects and not enjoyable at all.
I'm a sucker. I appreciate and completely believe everything about your review. I'll still watch it lol
I think the goal was to take something as wholesome and beloved as Winnie the Pooh and turn it into something grotesque and disgusting, for the sake of trolling the very idea of wholesomeness. That said, it was obviously never gonna be an Oscar contender. Although if you think Blood and Honey looked amateurish, clearly you didn't see the Grinch slasher movie The Mean One from last year.
"Suuuuuuucks!" 😆😂🤣
I saw the distributor and I knew it was gonna suck. But Im still happy for ITN for having went to theaters for the first time in a decade, maybe more.
Late to the party, but I really want to see those recommendations of better, same budget indie horror movies. What are the sleepers I don't know I need to see?!?!
I got a chance to see skinamarank in theaters and it’s the a really interesting film.
tell em dan
Ironic that the Pooh movie turned out to be so shit that Dan felt like crapping on it.
Marketing is a skill. Who would have guessed it was the only skill they had. Thanks for saving me $10 and a couple hours.
LOL Winnie the Pooh and Piglet, in this movie, look more like Rocksteady and Bebop from TMNT. And that's kinda fun, actually.
Yes, but now since the sequel has 5x times the budget maybe that will be great. Just think about Terrifier 2
Wow they made a movie about the chinese dictator…prequel?
I wonder if there were discussions at Disney to pay this studio to NOT release this movie. Could it be that this was their real intentions with this movie?
I wished they used the Winnie the Pooh mythos more. Obviously it’s very different from Winnie the Pooh but there was very few allusions to the original story so it became a cliqued horror film with Winnie the Pooh masks. Have Winnie getting stuck in a hole, or using a balloon to climb a tree, or maybe the Heffalumps and Woozles are the true villains (maybe they’re controlling them). Not having Winnie talking was a bad idea as it limited his character. We needed emotional scenes with Christopher and Winnie where they are “talking” or bantering with Rabbit, Piglet, Owl etc
While I see what you were doing by bringing up Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity, I don't think it's a fair comparison with this movie. Them being found footage films helps that budget go a much longer distance than if they were slasher movies. I don't know what a better comparison would be in the horror space, but I don't think those are it! Maybe El Mariachi. It's not a horror movie, but it's legendary for how much it did with as little money as it had (I know you're well aware of it!).
Have we learned nothing from "Snakes on a Plane"?
Okay this trend is terrible...BUT Peter Pan could work as a horror villain. Unlike Winnie the Pooh he is already a bit creepy.
I had zero interest in seeing this, thanks for your warning not to waste my time! I would love to hear your thoughts on Skinamarink.
Snakes on a Pooh.
your self anger reminds me of my self anger about the Superbowl Cloverfield movie
I'm so glad AMC decided to show this and not The Eternal Daughter or God's Creatures or Funny Pages or The Quiet Girl or The Innocents or Happening or Holy Spider or Eo. I guess it's because it was an Fathom release, but they also showed "The Devil Conspiracy" instead of any of those movies. So yeah, I appreciate Dan's rant about how nonsense like this pushes out more deserving movies.

Have not seen it and TBH I am a little put off that someone has taken a beloved character that many of us grew up with and have turned it into this! There is something that just doesn't seem right. So it sucks to start with and they have used beloved characters, it just seems wrong to do. Just my opinion about it. But thanks for the review
It’s a shame the Disney versions didn’t hit the public domain because Rabbit is a much better candidate for someone about to snap.
