I actually think the theater experience was amazing because it made me feel like I was in the audience watching it all live. If you want to feel like you're in the audience watch it in theaters. If you want to experience as someone who was watching the show at home then watch it at home.

Michael Ironsides narration was the cherry on top, for the budget they had, they will reap the rewards for years to come. I can see this becoming an annual Halloween tradition.

David Dastmalchian did an interview with Last Podcast on The Left about this movie along with talking about his acting career a week or two ago. He sounded like he genuinely loved making that movie when he spoke about it

This is the best time for horror fans. We are seeing more and more original scripts/ideas. The 2000s and part of the 1990s were extremely rough.

Idk, early 2000s had Jeepers Creepers, House of 1000 corpses etc. Now most horror movies have been a consistent stream of like possession and exorcism bs, this one included, this one at least looks good though. I'd say early 2000s was the best, later 2000s is full of garbage.

Watched it last night with my husband at a regal. Dude it’s spine chilling watching it in theaters and feeling like you’re a part of the studio audience
This film felt like it was an hour longer than it actually was, and I mean that as the highest compliment. The feeling of tension and dread of what was coming was so intense

Same reason my parents are learning to use AI for their projects, it’s cheaper then paying an Artist for custom work when you don’t have the money to pay an artist for custom work. It’s kinda like saying “how could you go to McDonald’s when there’s the local restaurant scene” When all the local places have to charge $20+ a plate to pay rent. Only issue is some of us have to pay rent too.
Good flick. Had the chills. Dastmalchian was great! But the scariest part was the character Carmichael Haig's wardrobe. People used to dress like that back in the '70s, you know. I was there. Still gives me nightmares.

As movies, I can see that. As an experience, I disagree. He's not my favorite director and some of his decisions deserve the heat they get, but I like watching a couple of his movies, especially 31. I definitely agree that his Munsters movie is a uniquely bad dumpster fire

@@onethousandlostsouls It's a love/ hate kind of movie. Strange, and fully committed to it. The first main antagonist you see in the movie is a Spanish speaking, Hitler-esque little people screaming digs and obscenities at our 4 captured protagonists, who aren't much better people than the antagonists in the story. And then it gets weirder.
I'm a huge fan of David Dastmalchian, and I always look forward to seeing his projects. I love that it's deliberately filmed to resemble a real 70's broadcast.
Got to see this in the theater when it premiered with a sold out showing. The crowd got so into this it was like we were part of the studio audience. People in the theater were reacting just like the people in the movie 😂. When it was over people were clapping and cheering. Great movie.

@@TheRealBillix You say this, but the only movie I have seen in theaters (here in America) that got any kind of audience feedback at the end was Independence Day. And that movie was made WAY before MAGA.
I'm stoked to see this. Glad to see horror is still on a steady incline since the 2010s. Bumps along the way for sure though.

@@TheRibottoStudios Well I think it's completely opposite especially with horror. In 2020s we have bangers after bangers, 2022 was probably one of the best years in horror movie history, with many great horror movies coming out that year. I think horror is really on the up in this decade

Slight spoiler but the ending where the aspect ratio and camera quality changes is legit an insane goosebump moment for me
I'm usually not into horror but this done it for me. Absolute immersion. So good
Why are you holding a remote? Because that gesture is a time-honored symbol that has survived the technological revolution! It’s also why everyone (who has any class) moves their hand in a circular, cranking motion when they want someone else to roll down their car window.
Man the way this movie was filmed like it’s was from the 70s was impressive from a creative decision standpoint. Takes balls and man it paid off big time.

Not really. Theres a reason these aesthetics have value- same as found footage types- it evokes feelings of older, better films. Its not ballsy. Its hack now.

I still see DVDs at certain local dollar stores too, particularly Dollar General or Family Dollar. There's even a Meijer not far from me that still sell 'em.
I love this movie it was such a unique experience. I felt like I was in his talkshow audience. I can see them playing this on Halloween night in theatres and people showing up, dressed up and participating with the film.
I got sold to watching the movie off a 5second IG ad and decided to not look anything up. Went in completely blind (aside from the premise) and it was great

One of the best original movies I've ever seen. It was just too good at really taking us back to the 1970s. The grainy 70s look, the voice, the acting, the costumes, the set design and everything was stellar. The end was a brain fuck, It didn't go the way I expected and atleast it was a surprise to me. I couldn't tell after a certain point how it was all going to end. The movie feels so incredibly fresh and its entertaining from start to finish. Great Job!

he’s such a dynamic actor, he played the polka dot man who is troubled and insecure of his abilities perfectly, and then perfectly played a charismatic evil talk show host perfectly, my new favorite actor 100%.

The feeling of being part of the audience was brilliantly done, such an original idea which is refreshing bc lately we've been getting a lot of cookie cutter movies. The actors did a great job. I think the ending could've been a bit more fleshed out, but it didn't take away, leaving us in shock and also questioning. 👏🏽 bravo

That's cool, I'll have to check this out. Despite the supernatural/theological stuff I'm actually more interested in the behind the scenes stuff about a failing talk show, because we've rarely seen that "take".

This would actually be excellent on vhs. That little bit of extra graininess would be like the finishing touch. And who knows, maybe, by sheer coincidence, your vcr will start having some troubles of its own when demon-possessed girl comes along...who's to say...
I felt like this is a tribute or offshoot of the "Analog Horror" genre here on KZread and its awesome to see, this is sth that I would love to see more cause there are still a lot of potential.

There's a great documentary about him called An Honest Liar. I went into the KZread rabbit hole for hours upon hours after that.
Shout out to James Randi, Lengend and absolutely helped push me to realize all phycic phonomonon is probably BS. Doesnt stop me enjoying a BS inspired movie though :D
Agree on all points; this was a great hidden gem. Only other minor complaint I'd add is that it could have used a bit more cohesion. Some of the bits seemed like random ideas thrown in.

David D. is one of the best character actors that we have. The man reminds me of the classic horror actors, he's our generation's Lon Chaney! We're so incredibly lucky to have this guy working. Hoping he does more leading man roles because this one KILLED. One of the best horrors I've seen in a while and certainly the best found footage in close to a decade.

Loved the Bohemian Grove angle and the possibility it was all part of a ritual to get Jack in.
I loved the way this movie was shot. Found-footage movies can be great, especially when they do something different with the premise (e.g. CHRONICLE), and this excels in giving you the feeling that you are watching something we were never meant to see.
I didn't like the part when the devil showed its beef curtains to the audience
MAKE PHYSICAL MEDIA GREAT AGAIN!!!

Perhaps this isn't my cup of tea. It feels like something out of Goosebumps but worse. Overly cheesy and mediocre in my opinion. I would've been more impressed if it were a student film or something.

Sounds interesting - I don't watch a lot of horror movies, but the descriptions of the retro-style filming, the acting, and the increasing suspense make me want to see this one.

I saw this earlier today before my shift and I really enjoyed it.
Loved, loved, LOVED this movie. And I think that "Cronenberg" scene was necessary to help re-enforce the idea that you can't trust your eyes. The main theme of the movie is about exposing phonies who do what they do for personal gain. Not to spoil anything but this movie is really a revenge movie. And I hope more people see it because this is the first horror movie in a long time where I want to discuss with people.
Jeremy there is an AI usage controversy surrounding this movie. I do believe you made mention of it so it really show how the scary impact of A.I on the project and ones to come.

The psychic guy was Hilarious 😂😂😂
The only time I got the creeps was when the girl was looking into the camera when she was first introduced, the rest of the movie was spent waiting for my spine to be tingled but it didn't happen again.
It’s overhyped hot garbage. Not scary or entertaining at all.
