just curious I was looking at your sheath configuration. You said you had it set up to carry horizontally on your left hip, do you have it for left hand draw? I Keep looking for any video that actually shows it on the belt, but no one has it lol. How has it stood up over the last couple of years? great videos btw, great quality :)

Thanks for watching. I have been switching it up with all my knives. I do like to carry the Blue Ridge Hunter on my front left hip, so I can draw it with either hand, but mostly a cross-draw with my right hand.

How was the sharpness on the Blue Ridge Hunter out of the box? I just got one and it was surprisingly dull. As in would not cleanly slice notebook paper dull. One of the dullest factory knives I've purchased in fact. I will say that the 80CRV2 steel was pretty easy to sharpen and I suck at sharpening. Also, gorgeous knife. I got the sculpted maple.

MidnightHozz Mine was very sharp out of the box. I haven't sharpened it once, and I just now pulled it out and cleanly sliced a piece of printer paper. Thanks for watching.

The Winkler knife was very cool. The CRKT axe was very attractive. The price of the axe was not comparable to the price of other axe brands. I would be nervous about it standing up to hard use. It is attractive though.

Ericmack001 thanks for the comment. I have put the hatchet through little tasks, though nothing that would warrant much confidence. The Blue Ridge has done a fair amount and I do love it. Thanks for watching.

I liked the video. You made me nod when you tried opening the box and realized you had the winkler next to you lol. FYI you should not hammer with the back of an ace with an eyelet. Its not made for it. You can deform the eyelet and force the axe head to slip from the handle. Axes that are made with the duel purpose of hammering are full tang. Aside from that you’ve sold me kn the axe. I was surprised impressed that the top is duel wedged. Thats a Scandinavian technique. I didn’t known you could get them as cheap as $60. I think my only gripe is that it doesn’t come with a mask or sheath

@@ewreck661 Thanks for watching, and thanks for the info. The axe came with a card that I read after the video that explained that the back is not meant for use. I was a little disappointed, but thanks for the advice. I'm a little jealous of your new Winkler axe, I keep looking at them, and I keep trying to justify buying one. Maybe in the next couple months I will.

If you do buy a winkler axe for camp/woods or utility use don’t buy a sayoc or any with a handle that goes all the way up to the head. The pins are plastic and the glue is a lightweight foam glue so the handle on mine broke off with splitting tasks. I was lucky and had a clean break so I was able to re glue it together with epoxy and replace the pins with copper which has seemed to fix it. Now I love the axe along with having to re bevel the edge to make it more useful in the woods or for any cutting task. The edge was super obtuse and useless before. it is really an incredible tool now. But for the 700 dollar price it should be great from the beginning. I know the sayoc wasn’t designed for woods use but for fighting but I could see the handle breaking making it way worse in that role to And the edge sent on it would not cut through much heavy clothing. I think his more recent models with paracord on the top of the handle would fix this issues so I would go that route.

Kylejom Thanks for the advice. I agree that a tool that costs $700 should come out of the box ready to use. That's one of the reasons I haven't purchased one yet. I'm sure they're awesome, but can they be worth hundreds of dollars more than my CRKT? I guess since this is a comparison and review channel, I should compare the two... I'll keep looking at them, see if I can't find one on sale. Thanks for watching!

@@edcblades5435 I do really like it but I think for most people if they want a very high quality axe they are better going to gransfors bruks, or in the price range of winklers a northmen axe

Seems like a bad angle for the back of the blade of trying to use it as a hammer.

Psalm 144:1 Thanks for watching and commenting. After I posted the video, I read through the paperwork that they sent, and it says that the flat back is not suposed to be used as a hammer. I have another video unboxing the Hardcore Hammer survival hatchet. It has a hammer on the reverse side of the hatchet, and works great. You definitely have to be cognizant of the blade, but it is a great tool. Thanks again for watching.

Crkt need to stop shipping people completely blunt knives and axes, I've been burned about 4 times by them. I'd spend 150 to 200 quid on a knife only for it to show up as if it was a trainer. Won't be buying anything from them again. They've lost a customer in me and I collect, and have been collecting knives for years but they won't be seeing any of my money again. Garbage company

I’ve had a few CRKT blades and the knives have come sharp. The hatchet is very dull, so I get your point. I do wish they were a little nicer because most of their stuff at least looks cool and isn’t too expensive. Thanks for watching
