    Took a 'hard' style chi sao Wing Chun for 4.5 years - the chi sao depended on angles, footwork & balance. It was a great system for quickly acquiring fighting skills. Then encountered 'soft' style chi sao system Wing Tsun / Leung Ting and was surprised that this was Emin's system. Instead of using force with angles in chi sao, better was to be like water - dan chi sao 'with a 4 year old girl' - i.e. optimized sensitivity of an opponent's pressure. You see it here at the end of the video - if his training partner presents ANY force towards him, Emin takes & uses that against him. Also the skill I call 'bamboo arms' - at any point resistance drops, a strike 'snaps' thru. This is a GENEROUS video with excellent depictions & descriptions - many thanks for making this available...!

    It shows absolutely nothing, nothing more than an abstract exercise... if fighting ability is to be the goal of the exercise, the skill must also relate to it, so application in sparring, for example, would be a certificate of skill, but there is not a single one Sparring clip from this Emin!

    I like the fact that there is no buls**t in it at all. Wing Chun, if I understand correctly, was born in the streets, and what happens in the streets, is real. In the video you can see the movements and learn from it. Thank you for posting it!

  • @VestigialHead

    @VestigialHead

    +Erick Braham Hmm not really. Wing Chun was created by Ng Mui who was a Shaolin Nun who fled Chinese army. She created it for a women called Lim Wing Chun to defeat an unwanted rich suitor who was harassing her. It would have been modified over time from street combat so I guess you are sort of correct. It is a great system but make sure any school you learn from incorporates full contact sparring and not only Chi Sau. No full contact means you are never really testing it from multiple ranges and under pressure and you will be an artists and not martial.

    Right, that is ALWAYS best to control both hands of his with one of yours! But you have to also take into account your position in relation to his, his system, and your ability to close the distance using the proper footwork. This is especially important against a boxer, who can be very deadly. That is why I don't like modified. You guys use linear footwork (straight in) and walk directly into the counter. Traditional uses the circle inside the triangle (which not only goes to the outside of the attacking arm but the circle protects the groin from attack), and initial contact to maintain contact with the arm, which, depending on whether the punch is left out or brought back (as in a boxer), you can either push the arm past the center, creating an opening you can exploit, or, maintaining contact, follow in your opponent's center of mass, trapping the arm and leg, and countering (as per Wong Shun Leung).

  • @mightymeatmonsta
    @mightymeatmonsta7 жыл бұрын

    That is correct. The corkscrew motion causes the energy to dissipate across the arm and also causes his body to rotate out of the way of the attack, going to the outside of the attacking arm, out of reach of your opponent's counter and also gives you a view of your opponent's other arm in your peripheral vision. Otherwise, the angle is too steep and you won't see the counter, usually a hook, coming. I only have one problem. You still have problems explaining it in a way that a rank beginner can understand, like I just explained it.

  • @mightymeatmonsta
    @mightymeatmonsta7 жыл бұрын

    No, that is NOT traditional!! In traditional, you try to make the moves as economical as possible. You would step to the outside of the attacking arm, closing the distance, trapping the arm and hopefully the leg, then attack. Check out sifu Lin of the Red Flag wing chun and they will confirm that. And he is REAL traditional!

    Well if you are in wing chun for 30 years, then you should know the difference, shouldn't you? So that tells me either you are lying about your time in wing chun, or you don't know traditional wing chun, and you were trained in modified. So what is? What lineage did you learn? I can tell right away by the lineage. If it is Moy Yat, or Leung Ting, or even Wong Shun Leung, it is modified, though WSL system is much better than the other two because they teach how to close the distance properly, which the other two, do not.

    No, he had a HORRIBLE teacher in Leung Ting. He might have known the whole system (which, it seems, is true if you ever watch his older videos), but he didn't teach the whole system, only bits and pieces of it. He did not teach the proper footwork, which he does know, and he also doesn't explain it properly so a rank beginner can understand.

    @@robmoss8198 Again this nonsense FBI, special forces, military and so on .... they are not fighters in unarmed combat, they don't really train so much 1vs1 in their time, but focus on intervention techniques and special setups. Many people are invited there, with the focus always being on those the trainer or leader of this units personally finds good. Self-defense means being able to fight. You learn to fight, like swimming, just by doing it! There are no real fights from Emin, no records, nothing! There are no sparring clips of him and there is no realistic fighting at his seminars and no sparring takes place. Well, and whoever comes around the corner with the next nonsense and says Wing Tsun is too dangerous for sparring, I'll hit them with my sword! If you can do sparring with weapons, you can do it without weapons, much more harmlessly!
