I like how the 80s version of being in a rut in your 30s is "managing a successful nightclub isn't spiritually fullfilling to me." As opposed to the 10s rut, "Working as a Starbucks Barista and living with my parents because rents are enormous here is making me worry about how I'll support myself in my old age."

Christopher Hazell and not to mention, we just discovered and should've known that women's studies, communications, ethnic studies, and philosophy are super useless majors; so it's either go to law school or continue working at Starbucks.
"Me and my friends, we had a dream once, life was going to be a great adventure, and we were going to be heroes. Then everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked!"
Is this movie actually a self-insert fanfiction made by a guy whose group of friends is drifting apart because of real-life responsibilities, so he invented a dying friend character that they abandoned because he personally feels abandoned by his friends due to his unwillingness to grow up like they did? It definitely has that feel.

So... "Saul died at night on the NINTH day..." That implies, to me, that they were sailing around the Lake for at least 9-10 days. No wonder nobody was willing to do it, if it was a multiple week trip on the boat to wait for Saul to die. Then did they haul around Saul's body for longer? That is the movie I wanted to see.

Hey, fellas, I finished watching The Cinema Snob's whole review on the movie Windy City. Yaaaaayyyyy.
"not gonna make it to the end of the episode" CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.
Thing is, the Big Chill wasn't just about some random people being sad adults. It was also about the disillusionment of the hippie movement, and how that optimistic worldview gave way to cynicism, and how none of them ended up being the same people they were in their youth. I took it as less "Things were so much better in the old days" and more "What happened to the way we used to be? How did we get where we are now?". Plus, it has an absolutely kick-ass soundtrack.
@thesapphireone
Жыл бұрын
I agree, even though The Big Chill was a comedy, it never forgot to take the drama in their lives, especially, Alex’s death, seriously and handled it with maturity and sensitivity, on top of having solid performances from all the actors, the comedy itself being very funny, well-timed and delivered, and the characters were loveable with relatable struggles and problems, but Windy City is the 80’s equivalent of First World Problems: The Movie.
@afterdinnercreations936

Big Chill was "Idealistic hippies turned into boring adults." Windy City is "Boring kids turn into boring adults."
Here's a little trivia for you about Windy City. The actor who played Sol Josh Mostel, is the son of Zero Mostel, best know for playing Tavye on stage on Fiddler on the Roof, and Max Bialystock from the Producers. He also appeared as a guest on the Muppet show, and died months before the episode aired. And yet what I said was far more interesting than Windy City.

I love the scene where he tries to jump the bridge and just flat out doesn't make it. This movie may not deserve a lot of credit, but doing that part differently than how 99% of other movies would have deserves some attention.

I worked on this movie the original title was All The Sad Young Men. Sadly the tall ship Lindo sank off the South Carolina cost a few years ago.
For some reason, as soon as I felt like watching this episode, it popped up in my feed, and I was spooked
I was watching this review again and realized: Danny is like that character in the episode were Frasier is searching for new friends to "adapt" to society/his listeners. He finds this guy who's a huge fan of his, but is incredibly tacky, unbearably naive, and so on. I guess they made a movie about him.
Hey, I for one made it through the film. Some of us are real fans. I'm trapped on a bus.

Yep, I guess the people voted for this movie just to get it off the Patreon choice list, can't really blame them. On the bright side, it was great you finally got to this movie. Never heard of it until you first brought this up in your "Independance Day" review. I gotta say, for movie that's trying to be a romantic drama, it's preaty weak. There was almost too much humor in the movie to really get emotionally invested with the characters, the leads have luckluster chemestry, and the plot seems to be more about Danny and his freinds then about Danny and Emily, who grace the poster for this movie. Granted the subplot about their freind Sal dying was heartbreaking, but it's practically the only emotional meat this movie has. Also for a movie that's R rated, I didn't see anything that warrented the rating, aside from one Danny's freinds showing off his ding dong at that costume party. Great episode as always.
I like when Newman says, Elaine... Elaine....
Thank you Brad. This review got me to draw something I was putting off 5 minutes in.
