    to be definitively efficient against rust , you should put grease everywhere. grease is the only thing very efficient against rust. put grease between metal and carpet, inside door, behind metallic bumper, under the vehicle, behind the repairs you can make (everywhere inside the body - hidden erea - instead of using paint), hollow areas (necessarily hidden, so no need to be aesthetic). For rear wings unreachable with a paintbrush, use an extender and poor old oil everywhere each year. Rust almost always comes from the inside and welds. Handyman Experience - 35 years. From france

    Your van must smell incredible!!! Hard no from me on this suggestion. While grease is effective at blocking oxygen from getting to the metal, it stinks and leaps off of any surface to find my favorite clothing.

    @@FloridaVanMan i do not know what kind of grease you would use but never anyone getting in the car said something like that to me about this thing. grease is either outside (bumper) or covered by carpet. If you prefer rust and holes, it is your choice.

    I am struggling with this van again today because the old paint that I brushed on failed Horribly!!! I've used OPSHO on about 8 vans and this is the only one having trouble, so I'm confident it was the left-over paint that had expired, or possibly I needed to add hardener and didn't know. I do have issues with paint wrinkling when weather is too humid or I rush between paint coats.

    I have some body panels for under the windshield and footwells. I get them from Poland where the van body is now being made for another driveline and brand. Shipping one or two items is very expensive so I buy them in bulk quantity. If you need a replacement panel I sell them for $100 + shipping to FVM support group members. How much did the glass guy charge you total with removing it and putting a new one on? Called one here in tampa facebook market and quoted me $390 for a new glass and install. Didn’t ask him yet for the removal yet

  • @FloridaVanMan

    @FloridaVanMan

    Жыл бұрын

    I pay $300 installed, but I have a regular guy who hasn't raised my price, though I know his prices have gone up for new customers. If he comes to pull the glass out on a different day so I can work on the frame, that would be an extra $100. I pull the glass myself, but I do not suggest this. I'm getting practiced at it, but if doing one or even 3 the learning curve is too expensive with tools purchased. you can do something else to earn the $100 much easier so just pay the man... :O)

    Love the Epoxy bandaid idea. Thats an awesome and practical idea. One question for the paint. I noticed you didn't prime the Ospho? Is that an issue?

  • @FloridaVanMan

    @FloridaVanMan

    When painting with rattle cans I don't feel primer matters. I could be wrong. The original white paint on our Sprinters was Horrible and I chased after the flakes with spray paint for 14 years finding the primer to be the real problem, not the paint. It made me bias against primer. In theory primer should help paint bond better... That has not been my experience so I must be doing it wrong. :O)

  • @FloridaVanMan

    @FloridaVanMan

    OSPHO says it is a sealer, so I don't think primer would have any purpose on top of OSPHO.

    Oh yes! He insisted I use paint with hardener "next time" and made this demand every time until I did, once! LOL! He has put in over a dozen windows for me and when having two done at once I used paint from an auto body shop and spray on the other van, trying to make a video comparison. It was a MESS and video was never completed. A month later we got 3 days of rain and the body shop paint wrinkled like Grandma's elbows. The glass lifted right out and no-doubt this was MY FAULT. But the lesson we both learned is body shop paint in the hands of a DIY-guy that just watched a few KZread videos is going to end badly. Since I make KZread videos for DIY-guys to learn from his argument didn't hold water (pardon the leaky windshield pun). Automotive paint requires knowledge, talent, skill, training... and dare I say, some artistic ability?
