Thanks for sharing this, very clearly explained, at my office a small desktop which also shares a folder for everyone on the network to store their work recently got such permission errors. No one remembers what was earlier username, they formated Windows drive and reinstalled OS, Now that folder wont let network users read most of the files. I fixed a few folders but it was just a wild guess to take ownership of the files. Will find the actual user using your shared command and try to fix this tomorrow.

I changed from Trusted Installer to "my username". However when I enter system 32 folder and attempt to change a file, it tells me I require permission from "my username". I am on my username account so I don't understand what the problem is. Any help?

Great! But the easier option is to open in notepad, change things, save it to desktop. Then do a simple copy and paste of the file from desktop back to system32...

Hi! Trusted Installer has a special name to restore it NT SERVICE\TrustedInstaller.

By changing such you can make your system unstable and have lots of problems. Why do you need to do this?

You don't need to run admin powershell to see the user name and that long command. mouse click on the window button its listed top right also type whoami from command prompt. Both ways more less work than the powershell method.

you are applying permission changes to a Windows system files entire folder(s) - this will cause errors and can make your Windows 10 stop working or have intermittent problems! Permission changes should only be done on files/folders that you are fully knowledgeable about and only if really necessary! Hi Thanks for your video and tutorial I still have some questions During changing to trustedinstaller I had to click few times continue because it showed me "an error occurred while applying security information to: C\..\.... Failed to enumerate objects in the container. Access is denied". Usually those were files from Malwarebytes which I have in Program Files (86) and in ProgramData containing some files or data from the same program and some other but I clicked continue and don't remember the name. My problem is that I have sometimes problem to get to some files, sometimes with access to save something - just few times, and the problems started after recent update of win10. Really there were some issues before but now it staring to bother me because the main problem is that my computer starts veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery slowly sometimes doesn't and I have to force it to close and start again. I found that even usb from printer I have to disconnect as this also influences start. I'm not a big comp gig I was just reading and done few things in comp but now I'm stuck. If you can please help me to understand how I can fix it, I can follow the instructions but I'm not sure how and where to find what is going on? If you need any screen shots of my system or anything let me know I would appreciate any help

If you have applied trusted installer to the entire C drive your windows system will not work properly as there are millions of files that will have many different principals (users/owners). You could try to reset permissions - we have a video on that.kzread.info/dash/bejne/mIh7tZWdYczAfdo.html However, you might find a clean install to be the best option if you have too many programs and data to replace then... instead of install upgrade (it is called upgrade but it just replaces to current version). Use the latest Windows 10 DVD/USB/ISO for that.

It still says I need permission from myself in order to delete the file. I am trying to delete a windows folder on an ssd that I received from a co-worker.

I needed to change the owner of a system32 file back to trustedInstaller, your video showed me that I had to type nt service\ before typing trustedinstaller. This worked. If you just type trustedinstaller the computer will not find the name.

Windows Ninja yes. I reset windows back to factory settings and it still won’t give me read permissions.

So I recently installed my old harddrive into my new pc and ran games off the old harddrive, but I noticed that none of the save files were being accessed because they are all in the old drive"s documents. I was able to acces them after doing this method but would it be safe to copy and paste them into my new drive''s documents with these security settings? or do I need to reset ownership? and if so won't that make the files inaccesable again?

assuming it is currently accessible on an external drive on the same computer by the same user pasting it to that user's folders it should be accessible.

Once I saw what my user name was it was easy as typing it in and granting full control!

Can you please tell me how to do this for the Program Files (x86) folder??? I tried this and it worked for System 32 folder but not for the Program Files (x86) folder and its not allowing me to click on change because its all grayed out just like in the beginning of this video. I;ve been searching for a solution to this for hours and hours and this is all I can find. Please help! :( I tried doing this in the administrator account as well and its still all grayed out.

first you do not want to be doing such changes on broad folders that are system folders. Do it for just one internal folder. Various solutions you can find in the comments in this and our other permissions video.

+Gupthan Vishnu Windows system files and those in those locations can be dangerous to change. If you are sure you know what you are about to do then try to delete from safe mode or use ubuntu to boot up and delete that way. As this file could be locked and in use.

What is the error message? Maybe your organization has blocked usb devices or is it a home computer?

I lost a folder while doing this by clicking inheritence it showed some thing and I clicked ok and that’s it the folder is gone before that there are three folder but now only two and in the disappered folder all files are locked 🔒 please help me bro

we have a few newer videos - do a search in our list.

That will not work as I have tried and get many subdirectory errors especially in the C:\Windows\WinSxS folder with tons of errors. It's not that easy, sorry.

you programs may be accessing the files using different settings to what you changed. I suggest you reset your permissions to original.

Go to the C:\Users folder (in command prompt 'cd c:\users" and look for other folders inside THAT folder and search there. If not there do a full C: drive search in file explorer for any personal file name and see if it is found.

This may have worked for an earlier build because certain area were un-clickable; people try this instead and follow all instruction: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z2Gir9xroNeXeKw.html. Also, there will be un-clickable areas but just skip that and continue doing what he does then go back to that once you've added yourself as a user. He will say to delete some stuff, I couldnt "access denied" so I just added myself and gave full control and I do what I want now with the folder.

+Zhen Biao Siow you will need to boot from windows dvd/usb choose repair options and then command prompt and run the icacls /reset command. please see our other video and look at the comments too.
