dude you are the only one i see doing it by the local group policy and its the only thing that works without me having to edit a whole drive worth of files (which is not ideal) I need to turn this feature on and off a lot and i have been coming back to this video for years now. you are a LIFESAVER love you so much man!!!!!!!!!!!!

"you dont have permission to open this file" still get this trying to upload minidump file.

This helped me finally access the folder on the network, well done. I have Win 10 v1803 running on two computers - and even though using windows settings to do all the right things, it fails. So I have had to go behind the scenes as it were firstly to see the folder ( a vid elsewhere), and then using your video to change the level of access, even though using windows controls I set everything up for file sharing. One wonders how microsoft get away with it, promising you if you do this then that will happen and it simply does not. We all are left relying on videos like yours to perform the tasks Microsoft say we can do using their interfaces.

And not, you'll still get a bunch of error messages, but just keep clicking continue, and when you get the final message that REALLY looks like it failed, restart the computer.

I just went through all kinds of BS from other users and using commands to try to fix it or override and take controls again. NOTHING! This was so easy, and I'm so glad that I was already on the right track on my own, but was just missing one element. I only needed 1 minute and 48 seconds of this video to completely fix my problem. Perfect video!

Thanks, the linked explanation is a bit techy, but I will look into this on my PC as only the wife and myself use the PC, so I would not have the control concerns as others may have.

😒 The Group Policy window is very useful! If ur Windows version doesnt have it then u need to get rid of that garbage version and upgrade to a better and complete Windows version like Pro, Ultimate, Enterprise. Anyways it doesnt always work to fix a problem but its def worth a try. After that u have to be careful and go into the Registry Editor. After that ur probably SOL, so just go ahead and backup everything on ur hard drive and do a fresh reinstall! 😱😊 After ur finished with the reinstall then Clone the hard drive with Acronis so u have a spare clean hard drive ready to go when it happens again because it will happen again because its 'Windows' !!! 😉😄😊

This is good stuff to know. I've run into this problem from time-to-time and after watching your video, I now know how to get around that. Thanks Britec ;-)

I recieved the "Failed to enumerate objects in the container. Access is denied" message from the Windows User folder on a drive I pulled from a dead laptop. The security options just went in to a loop trying to change files, and it didnt work. Others below have commented about that as well. In properties, I went into the Sharing tab and just shared the folder to everyone. And it opened right away, ez pz.

You can Clic Right on Hard Drive/Folder -> Security -> Advanced -> The "Owner" Tab -> Edit -> Then Select Your Current logged user -> Then Aplly changes, Close All The Opened Tabs, Then Try to open it again. if it works for you hit like

Thanks so much. I had a corrupt Win7 1TB HDD that would not repair. Tried accessing from ant other PC to get my data back. Access Denied. Following this video, creating the Everyone access worked for the whole drive, but the route Windows folders. About 450 of them that you had to click Continue to accept that you couldnt change their permissions. Clicked through that lot, came out the other side and now have access to all my files. Thanks so much!!!

I'm transferring files from an old hard drive. I followed these steps and was able to locate and transfer files. However, the folders unlock, even sub-folders, but the individual files don't unlock. I can do each one individually but that's not a realistic solution. Any ideas?

Hi there I have Windows® 10 Home Edition. Let's just get THAT out of the way. I had to download the Group Policy Editor and install it. It can be done. Once I had done that, and followed the instructions as instructed in this video, my error disappeared and it worked like a charm. Thank you so much. x

The Group Policy work like a bomb. I am a IT Specialist never have qualifications but knowledge is power so i learn alot every day. I dont have money to get qualifications but this saved alot. I got a SSD Drive for a client and putted the old 500GB into a external HDD. For years i was wondering how can i bypass the permission issue when opening up user profile folder from old HDD so i can copy files easily over. This was fantastic! I know Pro only have GP. Will try the first method when i have similar situation but a Home Edition.When everything is done copied i revert the GP back where it was
