I can relate really to your feeling about getting stuck at the literature review and not being able to state anything of my own 😅. I think things will fell better once you get deeper into your analysis of the different case studies. I’m doing a PhD by publication so I had to get started with my empirical material really early (and while I was very immature in my thinking around the dissertation) and it has really helped me to get on with the literature review (and helped with the frustration about not being able to present my arguments, because in the analysis I can do that). I love following your research and the constant progress you make from one video to another!

Yep, i constantly look up “DITL of ______” especially from a student perspective. The mommy blogs have when downhill the past few years. It was reapply pippin 2014-2021

related to this vlog so much. My PhD finishes up in September and only now am I realising that I actually need to put my own opinions and arguments in there, not just cite other people. It feels so weird. Also freaking out about what the future holds. I just want to do another PhD and not have to face it haha. Have a great week. xx

Regarding what you said about citing other authors--one of the (academic) philosophy books I have been reading lately did something I have yet to see before. It was published by this woman in 2000 in a specific/niche topic that is completely dominated by men (as in, there are *still* virtually no woman scholars in this area aside from her and /maybe/ one other woman). So, in her introduction she addresses several views made by the most prominent scholars in the general field. She then makes simple arguments that show why they are obviously wrong in their analysis, despite such prominent scholars rarely being questioned. And she does this in a direct, sensical manner. She also cites several others that have posited views in her niche, and she explains their views a bit. She then goes on to show how they are either a) wrong or b) right, but they did not dive deep enough in to the topic. In her simple deconstruction of the views of other prominent scholars, she displays a huge amount of power and knowledge in the topic, thus establishing her authority *over* these more well-known and respected scholars. It has honestly been a pleasure to read this book so far, particularly because it is written by a woman scholar who is now incredibly well-respected due to this very work. I would love to be able to emulate this in my own writing. But anyways, the reason for me writing this long comment is to say: citing others does not equate to giving up your power or prestige. You have made it this far, and you deserve to be where you are. You don't need to "prove" anything to anyone. However, citing others is important not because it proves your knowledge (other scholars don't care how "smart" or "learned" you are if you can't make an argument for yourself) but because it: presents the background necessary to make your own argument, and it displays other scholars' perspectives that you will either a) argue against or b) argue with but expand. That is, citing others and explaining their arguments provides the contextual foundation for which you will make your own argument. I know you don't need me to tell you this, but I wanted to comment it to try and reassure you. You are a genuine and wonderful person, and you have something significant to contribute to your field. You don't have to over-compensate by drowning out your own words in the arguments of others, but you also don't need to avoid the work of others either. Your voice exists and has a place in the field, but you must speak it, and do so clearly, for it to be heard. I sincerely hope you are able to find your way with your work.

Michellle Choi is a super successful vlogger, Kirsten Ashley and Sarah Pan are other WOC. If you’re intentional you can find WOC in everything, which I don’t think white people do normally. As a WOC myself it gets exhausting when spaces are only made for white women without thinking of intersectionality and WOCs experience (white feminism is very real.) The women in Gaza are literally vlogging their experience throughout a genocide which would take your vlog to another level (I hope you have not forgotten about them -Plestia and Bisan.) I promise you if you look there are so many WOC in social media, hopefully this helps and opens up your world/dis to make room for us too.

I fee the exact same way with waiting for fellowships and not being able to know if I’m teaching! I’m a plan a year in advance girly so this not knowing what’s happening in a few months is killing me😂

I prefer watching women vloggers. Many of them are white women but I follow a lot of Asian women. I'm not sure why but I enjoy their content. Peace 🕊️

I only watch women (or NB) vloggers as well. I just noticed this the other day. I do sometimes watch men for non-vlog videos, though.
