No doubt. Nimoy said that Shatners comedic approach to the role was a major contributor to the success of Star Trek and I have to agree. I never got really warm with TNG because of the lack of humor. When the TOS movies were running the same time TNG was on TV and the Original crew was cracking jokes and teasing each other it was clear - that was what Star Trek was supposed to be like.

One thing to keep in mind is that Lucas and the original Star Wars cast probably spent years watching Shatner on the TV before getting the parts that made them famous... Our choreographers were 2 of the original choreographers from the dance show Solid Gold, Kevin Carlisle and Anita Mann. This was also the first time the two had worked together since Solid Gold, there was alot of celebration about that back stage.

Frank Sinatra described "My Way" as self-serving and self-indulgent, which it is, though it's also an enduring classic because there are some times in life when those feelings are appropriate. So by his comedic delivery, Shatner made it possible for George Lucas to endure this self-indulgent celebration of his career in the company of his fancy peers.
