William Barton Live: Didge Fusion

In February 2014, Aboriginal composer and musician William Barton (Bidjara) visited Charlottesville for several special performances. For over twenty years, Barton has practiced as a performer of the extended technique of the didgeridoo. At UVA’s Culbreth Theatre, he performed three compositions, including several with Charlottesville High School Orchestra String Ensemble, led by Laura Mulligan Thomas. He also performed in collaboration with the UVA McIntire String Quartet as a speaker at TEDxUVA and for the Aussie Bush Banquet, a benefit dinner for the Kluge-Ruhe Collection.
The Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection of the University of Virginia is the only museum outside of Australia dedicated to the exhibition and study of Indigenous Australian art. Whether onsite or online, we aim to amplify Indigenous perspectives and foster inspirational cross-cultural experiences to deepen appreciation and understanding of our shared humanity. We believe the most inspiring journeys are personal, immersive, uplifting and enlightening, with twists and turns we can’t predict. We provide platforms for you to chart your own path as you explore our unique collection of art and stories that are embedded with deep historical and cultural significance.
We are located in Charlottesville, Virginia and came to exist through the generosity of two prominent American collectors, Edward L. Ruhe and John W. Kluge. To learn more, visit us at kluge-ruhe.org.

!! She really transmits pain and suffering, but anger and rage, wisdom and respect. So much emotion and storytelling - I can't help but project the aboriginal genocide onto that performance - a calling from mother earth ... I'm sure most of the audience there would have been white Much respect

@@gormauslander A drum kit and a percussion section has many drums and percussion instruments which all sound different. A pipe which can only play one note is not a musical instrument any more than a car hooter is a musical instrument. Go outside and blow noises on your car hooter for half a hour, when you neighbors complain tell them that you're a musician and your car hooter is a musical instrument. Come back to this thread and tell us what your neighbors replied to you after you said that.

@@dreamdiction looks like someone was raised in a western music echo chamber. I'm sorry your unrefined tastes demand that you gatekeep the definition of music. I hope you recover one day. In the meantime, since you have hearing problems that disallow you to perceive the complexity of sound generated by this instrument, i recommend taking up a hobby outside music. Maybe woodcraft
