Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection

Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection

The Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection of the University of Virginia is the only museum outside of Australia dedicated to the exhibition and study of Indigenous Australian art.

We believe the most inspiring journeys of our lives are personal, immersive, uplifting and enlightening - with twists and turns we can't predict. And those unpredictable moments resonate with us and stay with us long after the journey is complete. We provide a platform for you to discover and explore our unique collection of art and stories, embedded with deep historical and cultural significance, and we invite you to journey with us as we celebrate and honor Indigenous Australian voices and develop a deeper appreciation of our shared humanity.

We aim to provide content that is inclusive, reliable, connective and respectful. If anything you watch on our channel doesn't align with these values, please let us know.

    Beautiful. But it would have been so much better to have heard from the artists themselves, or the curators, rather than a bunch of white people talking about them. Why was a white man even in the video, let alone introducing it?

    What a fantastic talk. Loved ‘Human-ness, empathy, exchange relationships, negotiation and compromise are all rising to the surface as are other dimensions too like love, trust and respect.’ in terms of agency of First Nations material culture in collections. Totally agree that 'Objects are more than simple transactional exchanges. Illuminating human moments - that we can see and even feel. '. and loved the idea of Bark painting as being about cultural diplomacy being about relationships between knowledge holders and outsiders.

    Wow, it takes a lot to make a basket. That spiral on the wall is gorgeous. It's possible to make natural dyes from nontraditional sources like avocado skins, turmeric, etc., and I hope the women explore that.

  • @isabelleandrew9445
    @isabelleandrew94452 жыл бұрын

    They usually won't use non-traditional sources for dyes due to them being not traditional. Most of these women live in communities that have barely any access to shopping centres where they'd sell avocados etc. So its much easier to use the natural resources that are around them. And also its part of the traditional process, keeping culture alive. 😊

    It's not about the notes dingus. A drum can only play one "note" too, if you can call it that. Guess we should remove drums from all music huh

  • @dreamdiction
    @dreamdiction2 жыл бұрын

    @@gormauslander A drum kit and a percussion section has many drums and percussion instruments which all sound different. A pipe which can only play one note is not a musical instrument any more than a car hooter is a musical instrument. Go outside and blow noises on your car hooter for half a hour, when you neighbors complain tell them that you're a musician and your car hooter is a musical instrument. Come back to this thread and tell us what your neighbors replied to you after you said that.

    @@dreamdiction looks like someone was raised in a western music echo chamber. I'm sorry your unrefined tastes demand that you gatekeep the definition of music. I hope you recover one day. In the meantime, since you have hearing problems that disallow you to perceive the complexity of sound generated by this instrument, i recommend taking up a hobby outside music. Maybe woodcraft
