Спорт
Charlotte is joined by Chris Waugh and Jon Lane to discuss Profit and Sustainability rules, how they all might change, how that might affect Newcastle, and what our summer might look like in light of all of that. Many thanks to Chris from The Athletic for offering us his insight on this one.

It feels like a million years ago when we were all going crazy over the fact our owners were like 10x as wealthy as Man City's and now it all seems pointless. Hope that can change.
Trying to compete under the current rules is an impossibility, no point in trying to kid ourselves. We'll need to find a way round it, if we are to progress and challenge at the top level.

Like Chris alluded to in the pod, the revenue side of the operation will still play a massive role, despite any changes.

@@tfnufc Trying to build the revenue side naturally, would take decades and would require a massive amount of success on the pitch to pull in the bigger sponsors.
Get rid of these regulations and just apply business law. Lawyers would have a field day with all of these stupid regulations that have not been thought through comprehensively.
Don't build your hopes up. The CPL will fid a way to hamstring NUFC even if this comes in.

Don't count your chickens. The PL is walking on thin ice, legally. The Saudis aren't stupid. When the time is right. They will hit back.
Apparently they are keeping the points deductions and no luxury tax. The cartel STILL protected and clubs unable to compete/build. Absolute corruption. Time to bring in the lawyers etc.

14 clubs voted for this. They’ve got what the wanted.
Should be looking to get the stadium sponsored, something like Amranco St James Park sounds good to me. Also training ground sponsorship and training kit etc

I've been saying this for ages. I cannot for the life of me understand how or why they haven't tapped into this yet!!
Surely the rules should be based upon a ratio of debt to revenue. That would in theory prevent clubs from going bankrupt. Right now, its purely on revenue, which makes no sense at all.
What the prem needs to do is scrap the ridiculous sponsorship rules. If an owner wishes to sponsor the club through whatever companies they are associated with, they why should it make any difference, it would still be the clubs money.

It wasn’t an issue when F’Tashley had Sports Direct plastered all over the gaff.
Nice plug Jon 🙌🏻 Great pod and loved Chris' insight
Surely if UEFA are going with 70% for European competition, then the Prem would have to follow? I can't imagine any teams for which this will be an issue wouldn't also be going for CL qualification, etc. But then we're stuck with the same problem of globally established clubs continuing to rule the roost because financial regulations naturally favour them. I'm starting to think there might need to eventually be some sort of legal challenge to UEFA on a restraint of trade basis, but God knows how we get consensus on that.
I once again forgot all about Mintah. Hopefully he is now good enough to pull into the squad! 40:28
if the cap is based on revenue or profit what's to stop a club growing both by acquiring a profitable supermarket (or whatever)?

or say, a large Fan Zone in a proven to be lucrative form like, say, the Stack & open 7 days a week 😂
One aspect (or two?) that can be explored with youth are loan fee and buy back clause on sale. Chelsea used to be such a talent merchant that build a great system for them for additional revenue. The buy back clause help you with shuffling the number here and there as well.
I think every club should be able to spend the same as the highest revenue earning club in the league if their owner is willing to wholey fund it beyond what would put the club into debt otherwise. I can't think of anything fairer than that.
It’s all about Revenue growth to allow room to spend.
The chances of us getting a shoe in to the top table is fucking zero .It's fixed and I'm more despondent than ever
If its never truly going to be a level playing field then don't be surprised if every penalty ends up in court
I think in answer to you Charlotte as of 14:00 minutes, will be tweaks. All to keep the cartel the Cartel and us out. Excellent pod all 👍👏

Does seem like that way. Thank you Roger, appreciate the comment.
Not sure we need any restrictions, in business if companies are ran badly they go bust, imagine a business having investment controlled so they restrict competitiveness, it would be viewed as mad. So why are the authorities doing this in football
They will never vote in a luxury tax it wouldn't be in the interests of the majority of clubs.
Very good interesting video.

Glad you enjoyed it
Would the Saudis giving Newcastle a £1bn gift i.e. non-returnable sum of money, count as revenue?
Should abolish ffp, money don't always buy success yes sometimes it does but not all the time
So in other words the same crap will remain and the corruption continues.
The rules must be set by the PL not the clubs.
It was brought in with the best intentions but it’s not fit for purpose now
Its going to be hard to enforce because one of the Turkish clubs stuck by there own ffp but got banned by UEFA

Absolutely nobody you utter whopper, some fans really are thick as fuck, do you really think that people can know every little detail of someone's life? Especially what they do behind closed doors, other than government and MOD positions, maybe nuclear at a push, do you know of any other industry that looks into every minute detail of someone's life before offering a contract or employment?...... Sometimes you just need to stop and think before typing, I see this same comment daily on the Chron, and I'd be embarrassed just typing it, let alone posting it. I work for a massive international company at an extremely high-level, handling very sensitive data on a daily basis, travelling to multiple countries throughout the year, the only check they went through was an ACRO for a criminal record and I have to go through anti-bribery training / review yearly.

Not sure what else they were supposed to do? They can't go into a players bank account or confiscate their electronic devices.
Surely, this now negates City's way out so they will have to be relegated as there are 115 breaches. At least that will be one of the cartel taken out
Laura Woods nah move over get wor Charlotte Robson in. pretty clued up on football it's a yes from me
Makes you wonder why the Saudis even want to be part of this league/game.. I get the draw of it all, but they can't invest and build much.. unless they recycle and cannibalise repeatedly.. continuing to sign underrated players "cheaply" and sell highly, only to reinvest basically 100% of that? I don't understand their gain too much to be honest. Why not just buy every bit of property they can get their hands on instead?
"Gutty Six"
I am glad you did not go on about sausages and all that rubbish.
Why don't we just spend as much as we like and just face the penalties?
@charlotterobson7015

Because we might get relegated
need to fracture the greedy six - Spurs shouldn't be in there. Man U is levered to wazoo.. Sow division and watch the cards fall, and we pick up the pieces from there.
We should buy top players for the Womens Team - Mbappe, Kane, Bellingham for example, they say they identify as women then after they've signed they say they now identify as men again. Hey ho PSR bypassed and no one would dare say anything in case they were offended.
Apparently it's all back as it was as of today still going to hammer teams with points deductions.
Clubs should be given transfer bans rather than points deductions
