    Any airline trying this will quickly realize they can’t even fit more seats. Take a close look at this arrangement, and you’ll notice even more pointless empty space than a normal seating arrangement. Also, the empty space in a normal seating arrangement is all in front of the passenger’s face, space you actually need to be able to eat, recline, reach down, brace for a crash, watch entertainment, reach for the overhead ac and lighting controls, evacuate after a crash, boarding and disembarking, etc. So it’s really just stupid, even without any concern for passenger comfort.

Bottom Row Middle and Window Seat can't go out in case of emergency without the isle seat moving out of the way? 6. Head directly in front of the edge of a bevel. 7. Difficulty in providing assistance during personal emergencies. 8. Longer wait times during boarding and departure due to passenger immobility. 9. 1. Get the joke and it's funny and all but in reality it makes virtually no difference 2. Fair point but it can be compensated for in many ways 3. Not an issue they'd just drop a longer distance 4. Not an issue 5. The same case goes for current seat arrangements 6. Very avoidable in a trillion ways 7. Only for upper seats but again flight crew can be made to learn new ways to assist upper rows faster 8 and 9 are very fair points but the point is not all planes are the same. This is a very ideal design for airlines to pack more passengers on their flights without sacrificing leg room and comfort. It also means the total weight of the new internal structure and the increased number of passengers means that current most of the current jets are not suitable to accomodate this seating plan. It's a concept for the future which can be further developed as an idea first before being executed in new jets with completely new structures. I personally am for it because ,although i'm against corporates making money, as a 6'3 big guy i'd sacrifice the easy getting in/out of the seat to have a few more inches of legroom every single day of the week🥲(before anyone mentions business class i travel a whole lot i simply can't afford that 10+ times a year)

    There are a number of problems that I can see trying to make this work... 1. Those seats aren't going to fit in any present day plane, they're too tall. 2. The seats will cost a lot more than current ones for obvious reasons, a majority of airlines will likely not be willing to pay up. 3. There is the possibility of tripping when climbing down from the top, someone could hurt themselves quite easily. 4. They take up a lot more leg space anyway because of the step that is required for the top seats so at that point airlines might as well just increase their legroom, assuming they want this for their customers. 5. This will increase aircraft weight, which means you need to carry more fuel and therefore would be more expensive to operate. It's also worth noting all additional costs will be passed onto the passengers, which might not be a huge deal for some, but the people who don't mind higher ticket prices likely dont fly economy anyway. To conclude, this is probably not the future as it is simply too much of a burden for both airlines and passengers.

  • @mityaboy4639

    @mityaboy4639

    Күн бұрын

    The weight and cost of the running: I think this seat arrangement is designed to bring more people on the same plane; meaning the airline will take in more cash per flight, also; in some cases they could reduce the number of flights going therefore reduce the fleet size and crew size too. Which means that this could, despite the increased load and fuel needed; could generate more revenue and profit for the airlines. [notwithstanding the fact that its not a good idea for the passengers, especially on fart-lane.] As for fitting this on any plane: in theory they could create this if they sacrifice carry on luggage compartments and eat into the cargo area a bit. They don't have to convert ALL seats (though i am sure some airlines would do that .. khm Ryanair) and in exchange they could limit the luggage you can bring on.

  • @commuterjack

    @commuterjack

    Күн бұрын

    @@mityaboy4639 I don't really think it was about additional capacity, more so to do with the whole idea of being more comfortable (which is mentioned a lot in the short), especially since the additional space required for the step for the upper seats takes up more space than existing legroom, even on airlines with more comfortable legroom which means there would be less space for seats (also meaning a reduction in capacity). If it did increase capacity then airlines like Emirates might look into it, but Ryanair and other low cost airlines certainly wouldn't, as the idea of it being more comfortable would likely encourage them to charge a premium for it. As for the spacial issue, it's not just the overhead lockers that are the problem, fuselage curvature is too. Whilst it may not be a huge deal for widebody aircraft (such as the a380 on the lower deck) it is certainly a problem for single isle aircraft as the seat's side that is closest to the aircraft walls would likely not fit at the top because of the fuselage curving inward. That problem may not seem huge, but considering the trend of switching to smaller aircraft and frequent services instead of bigger planes and less frequent flights the possibility of major implementation is low and would need to be targeted at the more expensive airlines, some of which already have pretty good economy products already.

Perhaps like some of the larger two aisle planes today, it will just be the central seats that might be doubled up where many planes don't even have overhead bins. However, I really doubt that such a blatant packing of the passengers would be done. Slowly decreasing the space between the rows might not be noticed by everyone for some time but stacking the rows would be immediately visual demonstration of not valuing their passengers...

    The biggest problem with this type of seating system is that people on the lower levels can't see out. @@foxtrotdeltausn4757 you do realize that they don't make new models of planes every year like cars right? They make a new model of aircraft which is entirely a hollow tube inside and it's up to the airline companies to contract for the passenger layout to be created. They then make these aircraft the exact same for around 20 years to reduce the cost of the aircraft so at best you would see these seats taken into consideration in a design that wouldn't become common for another 20 years.

    It doesn't matter how much more THEORETICAL room you have, airlines will just make sure they pack as many people as possible with the least amount of comfort. Remember when they replaced the comfy seats for the new recaro style seats and they told us how much more space we would have? After 6 months they had put in an extra 3-4 rows of seats and now we have narrower, harder seats and even lessnlegroom. F them.

    problems that NO ONE in the comments mentioned yet: 1. aircraft ceiling is not fucking tall enough to fit this setup 2. even if the aircraft is somehow tall enough, the top seats will have no windows (and no, aircraft manufacturers will not redesign a whole plane with windows just to support this setup for ONE airline) 3. Top seats have no legroom or personal item storage 4. structure and foundation of this setup adds significant manufacturing cost and overall weight of the plane which pretty much negates any extra profit by cramming more rows of seats.

  • @ARockRaider

    @ARockRaider

    1 they might be able to sneak some of the space from the cargo area. or they might consider this layout for new aircraft designs. 2 most of the economy class already doesn't have windows. see 1b 3 carry-on bags might just be worth giving up for a cheaper ticket (if you don't like these the airlines would much rather you pay for the next class anyways. they also don't need as much leg room because they are more upright. 4 if they wanted to force profit they would be more likely to drop economy class all together not try and cram more in, this is someone trying to fix the biggest gripe (no leg room) by taking advantage of vertical stacking and it might work out.
